if i got into programming, would it be difficult finding projects to do to practice/hone my skills
seems like all i can come up with is games
What can I buy for 20 dollars that isn't completely useless?

It wouldn't be difficult to find some things. I mostly check on /r/dailyprogrammer for some ideas. You'd mainly want to start out with simple things. The best I can think of off the top of my head would be something stupid like small challenges you hear about, like the ye olde FizzBuzz.
It's really not hard yet I hear of how some people can't even figure that out.
$ ./fizzbuzz 10 >> output.txt
$ cat output.txt
1
2
3 Fizz
4
5 Buzz
6 Fizz
7
8
9 Fizz
10 Buzz
I always preferred working on tools than games, partially because I don't really like video games like I used to.
apparently none of my friends have exams or study at all, its round about exam period and pretty much everyone is going out every odd day or playing games the entire evening
i feel left out

Find a thing about your computer that you don't like, and then fix that one thing.
Find a thing about your computer that you don't like, and then fix that one thing.
sounds a lot easier said than done
but, lets say i bite
what language would be good for fixing those one things for a first time lerner

I'm not sure, my one problem was actually fixed by downloading the latest version of dropbox.
my first language was python, im still a programming beginner but ive tried perl, php and java too along with some xml processing languages (ugh)
python is readable and doesn't require you to set up shit in your code to get stuff working unlike java which requires you to declare everything under the sun.
[editline]2nd June 2014[/editline]
but honestly programming languages mostly follow the same logic, there's language specific stuff but from my experience after you figure that out it's not too bad transitioning from language to language

Having dealt with C++ for several semesters, the cleanliness of Java code compared to C++ is a blessing. Brace- and semicolon-less code also gets my goat. I'd recommend sticking with Java especially hearing how optimized the JRE is getting. And by that, I mean there are some aspects of it that are rivaling C.
which of the languages mentioned are relatively low-level languages? (assembly being lowest)
FYI, low-level programming language just means that it's "closer to the hardware." It doesn't mean it's easier.
[editline]1 June 2014[/editline]
Just making sure you're not making that mistake.
python also has a lot of built in modules afaik so it has a lot of functions you can use

i know
but if i wanted to fix "those little things"
i figure low level best level
I've always stuck with C++ since I don't want to be dependent on virtual machines to get the job done.
I learned Petit Computer's version of BASIC as my first language and so far all I've been doing so far is building upon a simple clock. I seriously need to stop because I've started adding unnecessary things.
I made some movement code for a text based game like Kingdom of Kroz, but I haven't really worked out collision with text. Or AI. Basically moving, score, and GUI is all I got.
Other than that I know a tiny bit of Python, and starting in Fall I'll be taking a course in Java because I don't think I'll ever use BASIC for anything other than as a hobby.
should probably go to the doctor at this point.. eh..

Don't kid yourself. Unless you NEED something that requires high performance, you simply want to learn low-level programming, or are most comfortable programming in low-level languages, I would suggest a higher level language than C/C++ or fucking assembly.

assembly was sort of just an example
thx tho
what song or what movie is this song in:
Context: my friend posted a video on facebook of him dropping a hotdog in a bathtub, no background or context to the video, I took it upon myself to create a backstory.
The end results are beautiful.

I can't believe how much of a fucking child I am because that scene still makes me cry like a baby.
