I honestly think Oblivion had more grandeur in the scale of the quests and a better sense/atmosphere of adventure than Skyrim did. Skyrim had better Daedra quests, I believe.

It's pretty much that they sacrificed quality for graphical fidelity. Look at Morrowind through Skyrim. The prettier it got, the more linear it gets, the more the storytelling is lacking. Like, the first Dwemer ruin you go to, the one near that bridge with the one douche on it is massive and sprawling and I got lost in it so easily. The forts in Oblivion were smaller but still easy to get turned around in as were the Alyeid or whatever ruins. Skyrim you basically just walk through a single path killing everything and then it loops back to the start.
Morrowing had a huge, convoluted story that you piece together and there's many ways it could go and you went everywhere to do it. Oblivion sent you across several planes and worlds, though the story was pretty obvious. Skyrim was basically HURR DURR KILL THE BIG DERGIN and you really didn't have to explore much of the Province to get it done.
I dunno, I kinda feel like if things continue in this path that the next mainline TES game will be like, Crysis beautiful but the main quest will primarily involve you just sitting around and picking your nose.

Depending on where you go, you can get it for around $200 which is about the same as a normal 3DSXL.
