Y'know, I haven't even gone to basic training yet, and I get annoyed when people mix up the branches, or think that I'm gonna go to the front lines of some warzone and get shot to death.

I used to be friends with someone who is a feminist and a social justice warrior and she had all these beliefs:
1) "People of colour" is an outdated and racist term because it suggests that white people are the default race.
2) The western world is as equally in need of feminism as the middle east/india/africa and to say that the third world needs it more defeats the purpose.
3) Films that whitewash and have a low amount of non-whites makes the non-white children who watch them feel unrepresented and unimportant.
4) Genderfluid is a real condition and I can fluctuate from male to female a few times over the course of a day.
5) You as a privileged white person has no right to say the n-word ever, even in if you say it in "quotes" or even in a private chat discussing the word.
6) The system is still a very racist institution and we can do our best to make things right by taking responsibility for what our ancestors did to minorities.
There is probably more that she said that I can't remember, but she is still a good, smart person. I've started to actually believe these things because of how long and how often I've talked to her over the year.
Are any or all these things complete bull shit or does she actually have good points? (I honestly don't know that is why I'm asking)

I can see a bit merit in a few of the points that she made. I mostly agree with number one. Number two does sound absolutely fucking ridiculous, I'd like an explanation. If she's got a problem with cinema- she should read a math text book 'Laquashanda'. I don't know a damn thing about gender fluidity so I can't say. Number 5: I can say 'nigger' as many times as I want regardless of race or 'privelege'. I want to fucking punch the essence of number six and make it explodes. Her patois in all of these is also mind numbingly pompous. I don't know her in person, but these quotes seem very presumptuous and rather hypocritical.

1. [somewhat] it's an outdated term but it's not one of these things that destroy society just from existing, it's to the point that races will use it to describe themselves mainly because in comparison it's a valid observation.
2. [ BS ] third world countries need it more, it's simply the recognition of an issue and prioritizing said issue.
3. [ BS ] Films are a business, and what they represent is either sticking to source material or what's been projected to succeed in test groups. In all my years I've never heard of this being an issue.
4. [ BS ] It's not a real condition, there's a reason it has no scientific backings or claims.
5. [ BS x 2 ] Treating words like offlimits for certain races completely defeats the idea of equality, the more you try to make a word like this exclusive or continue to put emphasis on how it's a racial slur only continues to make this an issue, my friend and I are in a skype call discussing this post at the moment and we're literally saying the n-word full out just in discussion of this, not in racist terminology. The N-word is sort of slowly becoming like the word 'fag' or 'faggot' in modern day.
6. Correlating anything modern day with past atrocities or crimes that ancestors committed is a flawed idea entirely and once again defeats the purpose of any sort of equality.
If you want we can discuss this via pm or steam so we don't fill the thread up with this stuff.
Fuckit... I should just become a hipster.

this is kinda true

also people really need to stop using "social justice warrior" unironically
On another note- the Borderlands series deserves a MUCH bigger following on Facepunch and the rest of the web.
A lot of people hated borderlands 2 because of the memes but i guess i just didn't notice them because i can only think of like two instances of something like that
A lot of people hated borderlands 2 because of the memes but i guess i just didn't notice them because i can only think of like two instances of something like that
the memes were almost entirely contained into the player character one liners, like Axton saying come at me bro, and Zer0 saying you just activated my trapcard
I never honestly gave a single shit about them, but hearing them over and over did get a little annoying after a while
still though, why those couple of lines led all of the FP hivemind to write the whole game off as memeshit, I haven't a clue
the game was still pretty radical, just like the first
I even began to find those ancient memes kind of warm and charming. If you're going to dismiss a beautifully detailed game over a single, irrelevant phrase- then your percieved 'maturity' really comes into question.
Personally, i love the humor in BL2 and the memes added to it rather than detracted. People are just stupid and overreact to things.
Films being whitewashed has been commonly practiced for years and years, and I honestly find it annoying. Prince of Persia, for example. It wasn't a great movie, but the real problem with it is that it takes place in Persia, and pretty much every single person in the god damn movie is white. They all have british accents too. Why? What was even the point of that?
Hell, any sort of media entertainment (from books, to comics, to films, to video games) in the western world has very little non-white characters to be seen. If there are, they're either unimportant side-characters, extras in the background, or the "exotic" love interest. More people in entertainment (film, books, video games, etc) need to aim for more diverse backgrounds (ethnicity/race, culture, gender, body types, etc) for their characters. Not only will it shine a light of importance on non-white characters (or the "default" type of character), but it will also bring attention to a whole new generation of comic writers, screen writers, and game developers. I'm not saying make a quota, because that will only force it (and possibly diminish the character of any characters involved), nor do I have anything against white people at all, but we just need a change of pace when it comes to certain aspects of western entertainment.
Fuckit... I should just become a hipster.
Oh great, an excuse to rant about hipsters. Hipsters claim to not follow the mainstream and do their own thing, but by labeling themselves and buying well known consumer products they're actually following a crowd, just a different one from the "mainstream." Instead of trying to join a sbculture, just be whoever the fuck you want. Don't care if you have some mainstream views and tastes or obscure ones. Just do whatever you think is right and be yourself.
Here's my odd dog.

he's so cute
Oh no, not again. It's fucking 2:30 in the morning and I still awake. I had two good nights of sleep, and now it's back to this shit again. You would think that lifting buckets of cement would be enough to tire me out, but no, I'm still wide awake. Doesn't help that I feel sick all of a sudden. I hope those two Gravol pills I took will help.

Take a cold shower. Knocks me right out.
Enough of this shit, tomorrow I'll ask my parents if I can get something to help me sleep.

Cold showers can really help with that. Seriously. I took a cold shower yesterday and I was sleepy as hell afterwards. Just do it, you will not regret it.
The horse armor DLC for oblivion shouldn't be hated on. It was only two dollars and added a neat feature.

Horse armor. Something that could have been so easily modded in by someone with a decent amount of experience in modding. Luckily for me, it was included in the Knights of the Nine expansion when I first got it.

I wasn't serious. Plus those who label themselves hipsters aren't real hipsters.
