don't be afraid of rejection else being rejected is gonna be super awkward and taxing emotionally. rejections happens, best way to go about it is to act cool, don't come with silly excuses and move on

I can picture it being pretty awkward straight out asking "wanna go out" out of nowhere, start with small talk and shove it into the conversation where it feels more natural instead
Hell if you think what you just went through is awkward, imagine how I felt when I messaged a girl I knew at my old college after 7-8 months of not seeing her and who I'll never see again and told her that I was really into her back then and regretted never telling her, only to have her see the message and never respond.

I may not be the best source of information on this one (Admittedly, I've only ever dated one girl and it only lasted a few months), but you don't really go "Do you want to be my girlfriend?", you just ask to hang out and see how things progress from there. At least that's how it worked for me. We just both realized we liked each other. Neither of us asked to go to the next step, we just assumed we made it.

I had a girl do this to me once. she straight up said "I like you and want a relationship with you". how do you even reply to that, interested or not? thanks? me too? it's just awkward. relationships happen naturally. if something doesn't feel natural to do, it's generally gonna end up awkward
