Right so we have this 5 fruit and veg a day thing in the UK, it's been going on for a long time now. I was cooking dinner, and actually looked at the box of button mushrooms I have and noticed a little label on it. "One of your 5 a day". Now, I love mushrooms and fully support their inclusion in a diet on account of them being little nuggets of heaven but I see a slight problem. The advice is 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Mushrooms aren't vegetables. Mushrooms aren't fruit, speaking in culinary terms. They're not fruit, speaking in scientific terms! Hell, mushrooms aren't even plants. They're fungi! Maybe we should change it from 5 fruit and veg a day to something else... Or just give mushrooms a little exception. Or maybe I should stop being a pedantic arsehole. Either way, mushrooms are possibly one of my favourite things.

I consider mushrooms vegetables. I'm going to guess that the box is considering that as well.

Yeah, it's probably what they're doing, and anything to encourage a healthy diet is a good thing. More a piece of trivia given by someone who has nothing to do whilst his curry cooks than an actual life complaint. Actually answered a long term question of mine when I saw the packet though.
