It's playable but it's such a downgrade from Origins it's barely worth playing. None of your choices from the first really have an impact, and some characters from the original get shittier writing. Anders especially gets shafted super hard and becomes almost entirely unlikeable. Combat doesn't have much depth either since they added the slashing stuff, making it more effective to just mash attack.
Locations get boring as shit cuz it's the same 3 places throughout the whole game, instead of Origins having lots of different places. Gets really boring, and the character models are pretty stupid looking too (especially the darkspawn, jesus christ)
I'd just skip it

Its a slightly cut down version of Civ5's full experience for people who want a different theme (not that's a bad thing)
Unless you're directly attracted to the theme I'd get Civ5 and both the Gods and Kings and Brave New World expansions, if you're tight on budget forgoing the latter for a while

While I absolutely do not support any of the morons lashing out and attacking people like Anita or ZQ, I do think they're both extremely deluded individuals.
I'd rather see the focus placed on people like Kim Swift, Amy Hennig, Jen Zee, Marianna Krawczyk, and Corrinne Yu (just to name a few). What do they have to say about all of this? Maybe I've missed it, but I have yet to see any of the well-established female developers and producers discuss what has been going on.
