Okay then what's the most powerful desktop CPU on the market right now then? Because when I searched under those exact terms the 5930k was the first result.
Just because it's the most powerful from a raw number crunching standpoint doesn't mean it's going to benefit you. LGA2011 CPUs are really meant for heavy A/V production and/or 3D modeling and rendering tasks. That's where those extra cores and threads are going to speed things up. But if you're just looking for a gaming oriented build, LGA1150 (and even 1155) processors are going to provide equal performance.

ninja'd, but you get the idea.
It's weird as hell when you have one line of a song stuck in your head, but can't recall what it's from and then you go home and later listen to it because you probably were thinking of it subconsciously.

Well as long as it blows my i7-930 out of the water from a gaming performance standpoint i'm okay with it tbh.
Lol, friend of mine just told me his little nephew follows the rules of the road on GTA V and gets mad when the cops go after him... and that when his nephew was watching him play, he covered Chop in gasoline and lit him on fire.

Sorry if some of the questions dont make sense, just put it together a few minutes ago. Confused as to why I need a survey for this specific assignment but hey ho, thanks guys!
The newer LGA 1150 processors will blow your 930 away without any issue. They also won't run you 600 bucks. Hell, just for comparison, even a newer Core-i3 with HT will provide equal or higher performance in single or multithreaded applications. And those are just 2 core/ 4 thread processors. Intel's CPU architecture has come a long way since the older i7s.
thanks!
There's another answered form for you, buddeh.

I suppose I should be a little more specific, in Skyrim for example with the mods I have, I often have framerate issues that have something to do with grass loading into the scene(I have a mod that adds extra grass with HD textures in the world), so i'd like to get an upgrade for my machine that'd either reduce or eliminate the pop-in loading lag problems altogether, eliminating them would be preferred. That and i'd also like to be able to run Star Citizen with as high a framerate as possible with my 7970. I think I have an FPS graph thing I can use to show what my FPS in Skyrim looks like at least.
thanks!
Still doesn't warrant anything stronger than a 4690K or more than 8GB of DDR3 RAM. Overclocking and the usage of an SSD will help boost your performance in Skyrim.

you need more vram. skyrim vanilla is cpu dependant, modded skyrim is anything but. Even on a 930
[editline]3rd December 2014[/editline]
I saw next to no performance gains in my modded skyrim (more graphical mods than you could imagine) going from an athlon ii to a 4.6 4670k. Going from my 1.5gb 570 to a 4gb 970 was ridiculous however
I upgraded my CPU from an FX 6100 to an i7 4790K, which more than tripled my processing performance at minimum.
The boost I got in games? ~6-10 FPS.
Beef up your GPU as well if you're finding the 7970 isn't cutting it. A nice i5 and something like a GTX 970 would be a much better investment compared to that LGA2011 processor.
Going from my 1.5gb 570 to a 4gb 970 was ridiculous however
I had a similar experience when I jumped from my 7950 to 970. While the 7950 does have 3GB of VRAM, it did hit some fairly low framerates with certain titles maxed at 1080p. Even though I ran my 7950 with a decent core/memory OC, it just can't compete with the 970 at all.
Right, this is the sort of FPS performance I got in Skyrim with my current setup with a Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition, i7-930 2.8ghz, and 12gb of DDR3 RAM:

As you can see, it never seems to go over 30, as soon as the outdoor area loaded in it dropped drastically. The three big spikes in the graph are from when I opened up the map menu to see where I was going (I wish there was a decent minimap mod for skyrim out there somewhere) Basically it seems the fps ceiling for me was 25 or so, and i'd like it to be double that amount outside at least.

That doesn't sound right at all. My FX 6100 is only slightly better than your 930 (Higher clock speed), but I could get 60+ FPS on skyrim without mods. Set your shadows to High instead of Ultra because Ultra shadows are 4096 res, and still can look like shit compared to ENB's shadows with high settings.
Also, follow this guide. It has some nice ini tweaks like Multicore threading for a more stable game.
As for a processor upgrade, it would be a good choice because like my previous processor, you're bottlenecking the GPU. You shouldn't need anything higher than an i7 4790K, and an i5 4690K will do what you want just fine (I have i7 because of animation and rendering).
3 hours of playing Adventure Quest and I'm already bored of it
I forgot how much grinding you need to do in this game, not to mention all of the pay2win restrictions

I forgot to add that I have a lot of mods that add HD textures and a high end ENB so there's that. My game is nowhere near vanilla, for instance:

HD Textures shouldn't be an issue with your RAM and GPU... Script-based mods will hit the CPU though. And Skyrim doesn't play too nice with too many scripts going at once.
This is probably an issue for the Elder Scrolls Thread to solve though, it's been a while since I truly looked into Skyrim.
Oh, yeah. ENB is your main thing. High-end effects will do that to you, as it did to my PC. I never hit above 40 when I had all effects enabled.
Well, to whomever the idiot postal service sent my game to, I hope you enjoy it.
This day fucking sucks.
wait
goldendragon spent $60 on an avatar?

[sp]I'd buy you another copy but I'm short on cash at the moment, maybe for Christmas if you don't have it by then and I have the money[/sp]

So with an ENB would you say the 4790k would be the better choice?

What they're getting at is that ENBs require better graphics cards to maintain stable framerates, not better CPUs. Vanilla Skyrim is more dependent on your processing power than a heavily modded Skyrim, which relies greatly on your GPU and the amount of VRAM it has. You should focus on buying something like a GTX 970, but if you're still hell-bent on upgrading the rest of your system, get a 4690K and a Z97 motherboard.

Huh, well i'll go with the 4690k for the interim and if it doesn't give me enough of a boost I guess i'll have to upgrade my GPU as well. Oh well, at least I don't have to replace the memory since the RAM I have will be compatible with the motherboard i'll want :U
Just spent like a half an hour setting up a MSX emulator on my PSP and I feel really tired now.
As far as GPUs go, I'm waiting to see what the Radeon R9 300 series comes up with for performance. And when the r9 390X comes out, Nvidia is more than likely to push for a GTX 980Ti.
Which might all happen within the next year. So I'm holding off on upgrading my GPU since this 7870 is doing fine for me so far.
