like the games are good so I kind of get it?? but really I just get the vibe that when people say they like gordon freeman as a character they kind of mean they like being able to play half life because via him u can play the game (and also the annoying circlejerk around him). but as an actual [I]character[/I] he is a total non-character (aware its deliberate) so imo him being considered one of the best video game protagonists is so ridiculous because he is just riding off the rest of the game being good. He's not really a character, no, like he doesn't have a personality defined or anything. He's more interesting because of the set up around him and because of how the characters in the story paint a picture of him. That's a bit of what elevates him beyond just being a no talking kinda guy.
He's distinct and unique, yet he has nothing really made to define who he is a person other than what we hear about him from others in the game

To expand on this too, there's been lots of silent protags before Gordon for sure. The reason people like Gordon though is because he's GORDON.
He's liked and revered by his peers, he's an MIT graduate, he's a type of person that's late for a major science experiment, he's a dedicated person who takes charge without talking it through or really thinking about things.
He's vague enough that you can slip yourself into his shoes completely, but defined enough that you actually think about him more than just your tool.
He's not my favorite silent protagonist or anything keep in mind, but that's why people like him.
GF is in a rough patch, I'm debating if I should surprise visit her. Our relationship is still new (I'd say so at least), and I don't want to be too intrusive. overtime I have gotten use to spotify, but skype is worse. I click the drop down box and choose close first thinking that will end the program only to minimize the fucking thing.
