I just don't understand the hype behind christmas. when I was younger, I was excited for presents but not much else. now that I've kinda grown out of being super hype for gifts, there's not really much christmas left in me. christmas feels so incredibly artificial compared to other holidays. christmas feels like a holiday that in reality is mostly in the benefit of businesses that sell stuff

only reason I'm even bothering with christmas is because of family. I don't need the christmas spirit to enjoy the company of those near me.

Most holidays exist more for business reasons than they do any other reason. Especially in America.
You don't really need to be super hyped for getting presents or things like that, but to me it's basically a time of looking back at all the things that matter to you. Of course you can do this at thanksgiving and at any time of year, but really I see it more as a time of looking at the positives as much as possible.
If you wrap your head too much into the money part of it, it's not really fun. Same goes for days like Valentines Day or Halloween. They're more for appreciation and fun then they are just money.

Once you hit 16 Christmas should be about spending time with family and indulging then you hit 18 and it's drinking.

I remember one Christmas the neighbors were over, and this one lady got real drunk. We started playing the song 'Christmas at K-mart' because that songs is the best shit. Drunk lady started clapping along really loudly, awkwardly, and slightly off beat as we all started at her silently begging for her to stop.

They had to move the time of the midnight mass to 9PM because everyone was coming in drunk from the pubs, and they still call it the midnight mass.
