I followed the Spider-Man tag for like, ever until I left tumblr and I rarely found good stuff the whole time
The worst was this one RP'er who made gif stories of spider-man and one of them involved him being molested and talking about it with Tony Stark and Steve Rodgers being his parents
It was good before the movie.
As much as I love that movie, it's responsible for fucking killing GotG.

But most of them are deadpool fans who like their funny le maymay comic memes and I doubt would appreciate the older stuff because you have to think for more than 2 seconds to figure out the plot.

Eh, not really. It's just a thing with comics in general, as time goes on they have periods of being amazing, and then they end up with periods of being shit.
The problem is the movies can make those shit moments last a lot longer, or the movies will cause good stories to go bad in order to tie in with the movie.
And then the people who are new to it are only exposed to the stuff that sucks, so that's what you hear the most about

Problem with GotG though, is that the series the movie is based on was, and actually still is, very obscure. The new series is the one that is selling and the one everybody is reading. It's fanbase is way bigger than the one for the good stuff.
I'm not saying this like "ooh this kids and their new guardians!" no I mean like the older series came out just in 2009, it's only 5 years old.
When the movie came out, the current garbage was what was on the shelves. They tried to [url=http://www.amazon.com/Guardians-Galaxy-Abnett-Lanning-Collection/dp/0785190643]re-release the[/url] [url=http://www.amazon.com/Guardians-Galaxy-Abnett-Lanning-Collection/dp/0785190635/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_y]older stuff[/url] but it was too late and the new comics have all the movie costumes and stuff, so to the average consumer the good stuff has fuck all to do with the movie and why would they want that.
The series I know and love is long dead at this point, with massive amounts of it getting retconned and changed by the current series. Even shit that came out LESS THAN A YEAR before the current stuff has been totally retconned. It's gone and never coming back.

Yeah that's kinda what I was talking about. The comic was in a bad time and now because of the movie, it's gonna sell like hot cakes and stay for awhile in this shitty zone since the new stuff is what got popular.
I wouldn't say it's not coming back though, but it's gonna take a lot of time. I've had to deal with that with Spider-Man like 5 times now and it's honestly kind of numbing. He keeps getting shoved back into old boring circumstances cuz of them trying to pander it to the movie audience, so any new stuff that comes along gets either shelved super quickly or retconned to oblivion. I still remember when they had to retcon Sandman into being Uncle Ben's killer when Spider-Man 3 came out.
Shit, they had to undo the one actual new innovation for spider-man when he revealed his identity to the world in Civil War, but within a very short amount of time they just had him make a stupid deal with mephisto to turn it all back to normal, except they even made characters like Venom forget that he was Spider-Man. It sucks hard.
Moral of the story i suppose is being a comic book fan is hard and no one understands

While the Kamala Kahn Ms. Marvel is great for diversity and is a fun comic to boot, I definitely feel like she wouldn't have got the greenlight without Marvel's new found tumblr fanbase.
