Dragon Age: Origins is such a CPU hog.
Faster loads in Half Life 2 before steam pipe were a thing. Now steam pipe makes them atrociously slow. Also frame rate is better too before steam pipe.
Haha holy shit this reminds me of playing Half-Life 2 in 2004 on my first computer I got in Year 2000. It was an eMachines with a 1.6Ghz single core celeron, 512MB RAM, and some entry level dedicated Nvidia card my Dad had put in. Y'know that joke about how people would go make sandwiches while Garry's Mod was loading back in GMod 8/9 era? That used to be every single load screen for me in Half-Life 2 :v: Things got better when I got another gig of RAM finally.
So, uh, thinking about it, what exactly is the point of playing games on a PC? Unless you spend 17 generations worth of your extended family's life savings on new hardware that'll last forever, computers seem to become entirely obsolete every few months anyways. I'm really starting to question the whole "PC master race" thing.

[editline]addendum[/editline] i mean of course the consoles are static hardware doomed to obsolescence but so are all of us
i went to a best buy today and i came across the mechanical keyboards. I couldn't afford to take one home, so i settled for standing around in the aisle for a few minutes typing like a madman on the ones on display. i miss that CLAKCLAKCLAK so much.
Big Dumb American is the mod SH needs, but dosen't deserve
Why do you always talk about SH here?

However, to answer your question, a ~$1,000 PC will last at least 3 to 4 years. After 3 years or so you can spend $100-$300 to upgrade it, where it'll last at least another 2 to 3 years. It's more expensive than a console, but you get the added benefit of a games backlog ranging from the 1980's to modern day, modding for games, just about every indie game ever, tons of free games, and Steam sales. It's worth it for me personally.

Also, if you don't build a shitty computer, it'll last for at least five years. I built my substandard PC in 2010 and it still handles most games on medium-high. it's only with the recent gen of consoles that it's started to be a nuisance. It doesn't matter if the hardware is an old model; newer models just run stuff better. I guarantee that with a GTX660 you could run almost all modern games on high, as long as the rest of your PC isn't shitty. Despite all my opinions, consoles do win out on price.
Someone bring me food.

If you're smart about your shopping you don't need to spend that much money to get a machine that will last you for a whole generation. On top of that, it's much cheaper to upgrade your system than it is to buy a whole new console later on. You also generally have more sales and deals with the online distribution platforms and backwards compatibility is never an issue you have to worry about, since you can still play everything from before the current generation's time on your machine, something that consoles nowadays don't even bother to do. You save more in the long run and I think overall you get a better experience out of it. Plus I can use my PC for a thousand other things besides just gaming, so it becomes a lot more worth my money than a console does. This isn't to say that consoles are not without their own merits, but it's not like there's no reason to game on PC.
I've truly come to realize I've got three dreams in life: 1) Get into Archeology (Which I'm already on a path to, which is really awesome). 2) Eventually get a PhD. 3) Get married and raise a family.
backwards compatibility is never an issue you have to worry about,
I'm all for PC gaming, but I never agreed with this statement. So many older games need fixes, official or fanmade, to run properly on modern operating systems. A lot of them need another program (DOSbox) to even run at all. It's a pain since Steam, unlike GOG doesn't require the game to run on modern OSes, meaning you could be screwed if a fix doesn't exist.
Nicki Minaj makes me wanna shake a plastic surgeons hand thanks modern medical science, you're the best edit: brb writing your mama's a sympathy letter
Facepunchers, especially in the central states, please be super careful on the roads these next few days.
And then i forget that Idolmaster exists.

GOG is my favorite distribution platform in all honesty because of stuff like that. The point is, it's completely doable on PC. Sure, if you buy them off steam you probably need fixes, and in rare cases you might not find a fix, but they're usually not that hard to get working, and considering you even have the option of that at all, that's already a huge leg up over consoles in terms of backwards compatibility. Most of what you'd wanna play that's older is probably gonna have fixes and be playable through some means.
Like seriously, good luck even attempting to get an older game to run on a modern console. There's not even a way to try. Best you got is digital rereleases. Also fuck my merge
I feel like I'm losing my perception of time. It's weird.

So I was given like 5 packages of Oreos, but there's a catch. They're not whole Oreos, they're bags of Oreo crumbs generally meant for distribution at restaurants for use in ice creams and such. Like what they mix into blizzards and junk. These particular bags come from Hardee's, in fact. Each bag is about the size of a regular package of Oreos, and I've just been taking spoonfuls every now and then which I reckon basically equals a whole cookie, if not a little less so. v:v:v

It sucked hard though that they dropped that, everyone except nintendo stopped caring about backwards compatibility. That's why I find PC's have fantastic backwards compatibility though, I don't have to look for a specific, older model machine in order to run older stuff. I can do it with my brand new PC without that much trouble most of the time, and I can play games even older than PS1. Hell, I can play PS1 and PS2 games on this thing if I feel like it
Why the tits does my mouse wheel randomly not scroll down when I'm browsing the internet?
Anybody been keeping an eye on the RC and seeing our little friend Dub pining to come back?
Anybody been keeping an eye on the RC and seeing our little friend Dub pining to come back?
Didn't even know Dub was Swog, but that explains why he was such a bad poster. [editline]12th January 2015[/editline] So he's gotten 18 bans and 2 permas on the swog account, 13 bans and 1 perma on the dub account, and probably more on other alt accounts. I hope he doesn't get unbanned anytime soon.
Didn't even know Dub was Swog, but that explains why he was such a bad poster.
really? my memory might just be playing tricks on me but i swear i remember someone calling dub out on it and him denying that specifically
