i think some subarus have flat sixes.
some old models came with inline engines
I'm at the final stages with my window mount rocket launcher. All I have left is finish the body work, wrap the inlet with foam and vinyl to keep from scratching the body of the car, then get some padding for the inside to soak, and some kind of screen to keeps bugs out. Then chrome rods to latch to the window channels. summer gonna be a lot better. Ok got excited after the first coat of finish white enamel went on, so I test fit it before I took it back out to recoat it. It fits nicely just in the window channel and I'll now need to fit two clamps to it that will tighten from underneath inside the cabin. I'm thinking two simple bandsaw case knobs and two brackets to hang on the door frame. It will suspend on the frame easily and secure without the need of those classic-style rods. Since it's supposed to be for 50's and early 60's cars, this will be the more "modern" 1968 window mount cooler with no rods going downward. I'm also going to add a thermador sticker to it eventually, or make up my own fake branding. It will look good once i get the chrome and finishing touches on it. What do they do?
iirc its an old form of air conditioning correct? I've only seen them like once or twice.
It's one of the older forms of air conditioning you could get. They were essentially swamp coolers, but I think dealerships called them window coolers. They were popular and used in the 50s and 60s and then cars were easier to get with A/C eventually. This was a dealer installed option, but all the coolers were aftermarket. I think 80% were made by Firestone and called THERMADORE EVAPORATIVE COOLER'S. Basically, the dealer put one on your car, or truck, and you could fill it with water, and then drive, and the air funneled into the cooler, would pass through a spongy substance that was on a barrel that rotated through a water supply in the bottom, the air blew into the funnel - through that barrel, and into the passenger window. It usually made it about 15* cooler if it functioned. There were a few more designs after that. You could have an ice filled barrel with a guard, a 12v fan that blew into the cabin, and some other things, but all were essentially swamp coolers. Mine works without power, and has a stationary barrel with some plastic mesh to keep water from spilling into the cabin. It should hold about 3 cups of water or ice and we'll see how it works later, but it sure does look neat. It's like a window mounted rocket launcher. They're regaining popularity on rodded type vehicles, and you'll probably see maybe 3 if you go to a classic car show. They do look pretty cool on trucks. If you want a real one, expect to shell out about $300 or more, then have to derust and restore it, clean out wasp nests, etc... Mine is so far about $20 in spent actual materials.
I feel like you're doing it more because it looks like you've got a rocket launcher attached to your car than for the actual cooling value of it :v: That's a pretty neat idea though, I read your other thread on it. Certainly easier than retrofitting an a/c system into your car I'm sure lol

Certainly easier than retrofitting an a/c system into your car I'm sure lol
I dunno about the fact that it looks like a rocket launcher... I mean that's cool and maybe 60% of the reason why I want it but.... yeah... and it will be cooler. I built it to work though. I could've been done a lot sooner if it was going to be purely a fashion accessory, but it will hold water and hopefully function. Remember, when I drive my car, I usually get talked to at least once if I stop about something, and if they pick the cooler, it better be functional or I get rolly eyes responses. At least people quit asking me what year Nova it is after I put the stripe on, and now I get the "They made Dart's in the 70s?" to which I respond "yes, but this car is from the 60's" And yes, it's easier than adding a pump to the motor, switching the belt, putting another pulley on, adding a relay, switching out the heater box and heater controls, running A/C lines and then finding vents to attach under the dash in a typical A/C install.
Washed the car, vacuumed the interior, changed the scent tree and cleaned the windows. Finally got a buddy to take some pictures of my car with a decent camera, hopefully they come out okay since it just got dark when we had a chance. Finished up deleting my front plate by putting in the plate delete caps, if I get hassled I'll just go with one of those JDM MAD TYTE plate relocations. Tomorrow I'll take apart my license plate lights, clean them up and install LEDs into them. Maybe I'll go down and buy a stock filter so I can use my fancy ITR intake tube instead of the super sick aluminum egay short ram special.
Got bored at 2am, couldn't sleep so I took apart my licence plate lights to clean them so the LEDs wouldn't be nasty dingey yellowblue. PurplePower is the best light/lens cleaner ever. [t]http://i.imgur.com/oMlqGqY.jpg[/t] Didn't get a pic of them in the car though..
Got another test fit in with the cooler rocket, and I scooted it closer to the center of the window, rather than full forward. It makes the body block off pretty much all of the window opening which is I think how it's supposed to go. I got my measurements for the brackets and am debating having a bracket go up over the top and screw downward into a hole in the door frame. That would probably hold it best, but put a hole in the door... which will leak if the cooler is not on at the time. Decisions. I want a clamp otherwise that wraps the whole window frame and it will be made of some "S" shaped 1/8" aluminum brackets. Then I'll plastidip the brackets so they are thick and rubbery (cue in correct use of plastidip) I will literally dip the brackets... as intended. ANYWAY Daytime shot. No brackets, literally just sitting on window frame. Fits nice, may rethink the sleeving for the opening. The gray vinyl kind of wrinkled up when I stretched the cover over it. Maybe I'll just use thick foam. More stuff today. I was going to paint my inner fender lips black since you could see how ugly they were through the seems in the hood gap all around. Here's what they looked like: I degreased them as best as I could then started sanding them with 600 to get what other dirt I could off and the remainder of the clear coat, to prep for the black. Then I had a thought... I got some clear gloss poly, a nice China bristle and utilized my brush skills again. Thinned down really good, and a hint of Japan dry added to those of you who paint. This was a brilliant idea. The finish is smooth and brilliant. The paint underneath isn't the best, but I'd say this is 100% better than resorting to black. I cleaned up the hinges, back part of the engine bay, and some door jambs the same way. I can do it without Japan dry as well since it's not readily available everywhere. It really cleans up some faded shit IMO.
Finished my tune up kit minus the crankcase breather (cant find it) and transmission fluid (cant get the fill bolt off so I dont want to mess with it at the moment). So new plugs, wires, dist cap, dist rotor, pcv valve, fuel filter, oil filter, and oil. I still need to change my thermostat, trans fluid, find that crankcase breather, and wash the car.
I might buy and retrofit some 300ZX louvres to my S13. If I do it right it might look like this: ^looks exactly like that. I guess I wasn't the only one with the same idea
car needs to be a little boxier for those it seems like. [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] But it does look better than without.
Coolest $20 ever lol. Just need a bit of fabrication so it sits flush. Going to make my own brackets and secure it to the hatch door. I guess I'm going Mad Max/postapoc on my 13 now
At first i was like [t]https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/1059x709q90/818/hgzr.jpg[/t] Then i was like [t]https://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/845/mxh8.jpg[/t] [t]http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/21/g8th.jpg[/t] [t]http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800x600q90/833/pnri.jpg[/t] [editline]26th January 2014[/editline] Louvers are the coolest

Streets of Simcity as hell.
I started diagnosis on what seems to be a vacuum leak. I'm gonna buy a can of starter fluid on the way home and squirt around to see what I can find. With any amount of luck its just the throttle body or a fuel injector... really hope it ain't the intake manifold gasket. Regardless, its gotta get fixed. Belt also has to get changed, but I can't get the fucking pulley loose enough to do it.
Oh the joys of hunting for vacuum leaks... No thanks, you can keep that fun all to yourself mate! Today, I finally got everything sorted out with regards to coding the 7. Had a big problem where all the vehicle order data was corrupt in the EWS and IKE (security and instrument cluster modules). After dicking around with many different software packages, long story short I managed to code new VO data to my EWS, correct the VIN and successfully start coding. So this morning I coded on one-touch auto up/down windows, and one-touch auto open/close sunroof controls. Tonight I'll code off the license plate and parking light bulb check warnings, as I have LEDs I want to use that don't have resistors built in. The only thing that shits me is that I turned on my audible lock / unlock siren, and for some reason my 7 only beeps the HORN when I use it... what the? It's supposed to have the awesome Wolf Whistle. No idea why it's done that but it's the one option I wanted the most, so that's a kick in the guts. The only time hunting vac leaks is fun is when you have a smoke machine :)

Damn snowmobile, ran perfectly when I brought it home from its summer place, now it runs crap. Bogs and misses at mid range rpm (3000 to 5000) but idles fine and runs okay at high rpm. So far I've rejetted and cleaned the carbs, tried multiple spark plugs, put new gas in it, changed the pick up hose in the tank, checked for vacuum leaks but nothing has helped.

Been working alot at a friends shop. Did a valve cover gasket today on an 05 Kia Amanti (armani) and yesterday I changed the gear lube in some small 4x4 suv. that grease was so burned that it smelled like raw diesel mixed with sulfur, I almost barfed. And a few other things, brakes on a Tacoma and an 06 Altima, brake light issue on a Ford Freestyle and an 07 Civic. The civic rumbles real bad but doesn't misfire and has no codes, but that's not my problem. This job sadly may not last long, I really hope this one sticks.
