Started working on the eclipse after 4 years of owning it
Pulled the seats for a manual rail replacement and cleaning. Surprisingly light seats in this thing despite being pleather and powered.

Then I pulled the carpet for a possible junkyard replacement, has a few holes from cigarettes and as 6+ year old coffee and coke stains. Had to cut a wire cause some very smart person decided to run it through the carpet.

It's going to be converted to a 2gb body and lights, manual transmission, though I'm opting to fix the possibility of crankwalk and not swapping to a 6 bolt. though there is a lot more engine-wise I need to do before it even becomes driveable.
As long as the carpet itself in being carpet is in decent condition, just dye it!
You seem to be a radio wizzard, what's good at around 200 bux (no more then 230) has built in GPS, BT and decent speaker power output?
Nothing. Nothing for $230 is going to be good and have GPS.
For that matter it's going to be pretty hard to fine something that's $230 and have a screen and BT. The closest bet would probably be the Pioneer 2600BT
http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-X2600BT-Multimedia-Receiver-Display/dp/B00GN5K5WO
Then, if you have an Iphone 4/S, you can run appmode and get your GPS that way.
But without touching the $500 mark at least nothing you'll find with GPS will be worth having in your car.
To add to my list of radio companies that have poor quality/ shitty user interface/ etc .. here goes:
Dual
Boss
Pyle
Planet Audio
Sound Stream
Fahrenheit
Power Acoustik
SPL
Performance Tecknique
BOYO Vision
And Jensen is right on the edge.
If you look you'll notice ALL of these stupid companies take the same Chinashit unit/s and slap different stickers on them and sell them dirt cheap. It's gross. They're gross.
I love stock head units. If you need AUX, most either have it as a hidden option in the back or can be modified to work with it.
Keep the stock headunit and then use an amp for higher powered speakers or a sub.

There's some issues with that, depending on how anal you are for sound quality.
Some stock headunits use 'sat radio' emulation, or 'cd changer' emulation for the aftermarket aux input devices, and in which case are fully digital audio signal input (AKA CD quality). This ensures a quality signal input.
But some have no option aside from a hardwired FM Modulator, which runs in line with the FM antenna and pumps a strong hardwired FM signal into the radio for you aux input. In this case the best you'll ever get for sound quality is a good FM signal, which is cruddy.
The next problem is factory EQ curves and signal output quality. The signal output quality can sometimes be the downfall on a factory headunit, too, even never ones. First off they lay they're own EQ curve over the top of the music that's being played to maximize efficiency of the factory junk speakers, which works for that.. but once you start amplifying that it gets all sorts of goofy and you can end up with a system that's got a lot of power and great components... but is lacking a solid source and thus sounds like shit (had this happen on a 2012 Camaro w/ Boston to me). The only way to solve that while keeping the stock headunit is a sound processor, a strong one like the MS8 by JBL or BitOne by Audison. Those things are smart as hell and can fix that's shitty signal and give you a good clean output to all your aftermarket amps.
Or if you just want good sound without amps and all that crazy stuff, really the only option is upgrading to better speakers, and sometimes a factory headunit won't be strong enough to push those.
THIS is the worst offender:

This goddamn piece of shit is the worst factory radio ever bar none. With factory speakers you can turn it up to max and hold a conversation over the music. Swap those speakers to something aftermarket (AKA heavier) and it gets worse. That thing sucks ass.
Depending on how tuning crazy you like to get, too, sometimes the factory headunit just doesn't cut it. High end aftermarket radios have digital time alignment for the real audiophiles. Many aftermarkets also have HPF to cut bass to the speakers when you have a sub, which is a great feature for maximizing output without a 4ch amp. EQs that have more than 3 bands are also a valuable tool that you gain with aftermarket vs factory.
The final issue with keeping factory, especially older stuff, is bluetooth integration. Most OEM headunits don't have a good way to add bluetooth and keep it seamless like after aftermarket radio or factory radio that came equipped originally.
So there you have it. Some applications work fine with a factory radio, some don't.. it all comes down to the end product that's desired.
Dying your carpet for your black interior is like one of the best "cheap" mods you can do interior wise, it works with floormats too. Dunno how great it would be in the eclipse since it has a grey interior, you can probably find a gunmetal/dark grey dye though and it would probably look really sharp. I found a color that might work, Rit has recipes for colors. You could probably modify this with just a slight bit more black. Mine's the stock base model one that started going into the 88 Civic(maybe even earlier cars), the radio harness has weak wire connections due to being stretched to it's limit on the stock deck so I want something that will space back the connector and keep me from having to hit the dash to make the speakers come back on.
Say clutch2, what do you think of the speakers I posted last page?

This is one of the biggest reasons that I will never go back to a cheap single din simple radio. An 8 band graphic EQ is so much more accurate and produces a much better product than the simple "bass/mid/trebble" 3 band you find in most head units. Not to mention being able to cut out frequencies that don't agree with my speakers. Worth every penny....
Any of those speakers you posted should be fine. They are all 4 ohms impedance, so they should be useable with any head unit. You're not going to fine uber sound quality at that price point, but they will be way better than stock. I would suggest the Kentwood KFC - 1664S out of those options.
In my car my knee would press buttons on a double din deck and would be obstructed of view because of the knee. Cups and drinks already press buttons on my single din and would certainly press up against the touch screen and or possibly ruin it. It's far too low down in the dash to be of any use and would be super distracting from the road to use.
Well the speakers are going in the Civic and the original speakers from 1990 aren't even functional anymore. I'm concerned because many 6.5" speakers supposedly don't fit in the housings.

No pictures, but I recovered the headliner in my Saturn today. It wasn't particularly hard. The best quote I got was $100 to have somebody do it, and I spent about $45 on adhesive and new headliner material. Happily, there weren't too many shitty 90s plastic parts destroyed in the process.

Honest to god, looking at that listing makes me cringe. I would put it in the "stay away brand" list due to the lack of features on that head unit. My in-dash dvd player makes a better navigation unit in app mode than that one in it's dedicated navigation mode.....

So now I'm confused, the front baskets are the same for 88-95 Civics so if anyone's installed speakers into a Honda with similar housings please tell me what you put in them. People are also saying 3-way speakers don't work in the stock housing/basket though. I'd go to a local car audio shop but a 10 minute install and 50% markup from online prices would be better spent on parts.

Lack of features? Are we looking at the same head unit? Also it states that the map won't likely look like the displayed one. Worse come to worse I'd yank the map from my TomTom.

These are the best you posted. For the price they're awesome!!
All the other ones you linked to are 'entry level' lines from the manufacturers, but this one is a 'mid level' line. They have super clear treble and pronounced midbass. A great speaker pair for running off headunit power and complimenting a subwoofer. Get those for sure.
As for making them fit, They're not a crazy wide/deep basket/magnet on them, and I've never had any trouble fitting them in where any 6.5'' speaker is supposed to go. You should be get if you've got a dremel just incase. Usually you run into problems on Hondas with wide/oversized speaker baskets, and these should work easily with zero or very little custom work, just run some screws in.
Also. That Milion headunit. Like SIKY said, another crudder. More of that re-badged china radio setup. It's got a lot of 'features' but almost assuredly they won't work very good. I tell you man, if you want to graduate from a Yugo with a bodykit to a Cadillac, snatch up that Pioneer AVH2600BT. It's got everything you want except GPS, and in your price range any of that china stuff with GPS will work poorly at best. I've always been underwhelmed like you wouldn't believe by it.

Alright man, I'll take your word for it. I've seen the shit you do so I'd be deleting brain power by not heeding your warnings. I'm still gonna try and get something with GPS, cuz I run errands for an animal clinic once and awhile and also do the gopher thing at the shop I work at. I know Pasco pretty well, been here come 30 years in august, but I ain't been everywhere yet.

Well.....
First off, it doesn't support anything above an IPhone 4s, which means it's already using outdated technology. Second, it doesn't support siriusxm, which the vast majority of aftermarket headunits have been supporting for ages.
Now, let's look at the back. One plug for subwoofer output. This means you're running a mono sub out. Even the cheapest head units run stereo out for subs. There is no AUX jack either. You would have to buy a RCA to 1/8" stereo adapter, then run an AUX cable into the vehicle.
That's not to mention you're missing functions on the actual audio player itself. There's no shuffle, repeat, or compatibility with pandora, which even cheaper single din head units come with nowadays.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that it will have any physical or software problems. It may work flawlessly for decades. BUT it's severely lacking features.
When you compare it to a REAL nav system like the PIONEER AVIC-8000NEX, it really shows that it's just a polished turd with early 2000's technology.....
Come to think about it, compared to that AVIC, the AVH-X5600BHS I bought last year is like a polished turd :/
Well, I got my car show confirmation for the registration today. They were giving away free goodie bags, and dash plaques to the first 300 people to register - I am #305...
Anyway, I got the air shocks put in, and the car is finally up off its haunches and raked. I can actually jack it more. The shocks are only about half extended, but as of now, it's about 2" more clearance from the ground at 60psi, and it still rides real nice. I'm still working out the onboard compressor and air system. I am trying to solve a leak in it near the compressor, but the jacks are just attached to a tire stem valve for now that I can fill off of a regular compressor with air nozzle.

Today I went back to working on the 1947 Hacker in me and my dad's shop. The dashboard was apparently supposed to be that of a 1947 Cadillac. He thought that was just a custom piece so he tossed it when he was doing the tear down when we replanked it for restoration. It turned out it was supposed to be there, so we found a new one not far away. $300 for the dash and steering column, and $150 for the glove box with a clock in it. It's going to look bitchin. But I had to strip it for now. The gauges are being sent out to have new bezels installed and the speedometer is being converted to a tachometer.

The radio grill just looks badass. If I can't get the tube radio functioning, they have a digital drop-in that looks exactly like it on the face and wouldn't detract from the aesthetics. We'd just run a second 6v battery for this circuit. Once I finish stripping the dash tomorrow of all the parts, it is being sent to a sheet metal worker to be extended. It will look the same, but wider, then the top part is being painted red, and the bottom cream color.
Fun-fact. They took a piece of steel, and painted some faux woodgrain on it somehow, then stamped the dash out of it, so that is actually a faux wood finish - not brown.

Once the dash is sent out I got to take the column and box apart to convert it to a marine application, and then remove the gear indicator and turn signal off the 1st and 2nd collars.

This is what it's going in, for those that don't remember or haven't seen yet:

Can't wait till the interior's done and it's time to drop the v12 rolls in it. I cut out that white piece of ply in the hatch section to attach to the hoist to see if it would clear being dropped in, and it is essentially the same dimensions as the engine in a profile view.

Okay, I ordered those. Kinda lame I have to put an extra $12.80 for shipping into it but if they aren't walmart grade junk then I'll be happy with them. Maybe I'll buy another 2 sets for my Integra if I really like them.
Why not just grab a cheap Nexus 7 2012 off Swappa, get a mount for it and run Google Maps off your phone's wifi hotspot? That or pick up any GPS unit off CL? I wouldn't ever want some outdated shit GPS in my dash. I hate every OEM indash GPS ever simply because it doesn't have anywhere near the quality of what my phone does.
Why not just get a phone mount or put the money to a phone with a nice big screen such as the LG G2 or Nexus 5? You can always hook it through bluetooth and run Pandora with it too even.

The indash gps is kind of a fall back for when I can't use my phones GPS, not to mention Google fucked up maps pretty bad when they changed it from Navigation. You HAVE TO BE exact when looking up a destination or it'll navigate you to timbuk 3. :v:
I'd likely go for a HU that has mirror link, but the issue is "will it work with my phone?" Pioneer has some mirror link HUs at Bestbuy but fuck, those prices... and I've no idea if GPS mirrorlinks.

What phone do you have? You may be better off just getting a pioneer appradio 3 if you don't really need cd or DVD (although there is one with a DVD player). There are a bunch of navigation apps on appradio, which turns your head unit into a Nav unit using your phone as the gps. For instance, I use the NavFree app in my head unit's appradio mode. It looks and acts like a true Nav unit, but without the $1400 price tag.

Yea boy! Appradio 1/2 isn't worth a shit, but 3 got better (and has a disc drive finally). If you have the right phones (HDMI output android) you can root it and run AR Liberator for sick mirrorlink capabilities.

Just replaced whole tie rods in my S14. Tein tie rods for that extra steering angle when going drifting and not to mention old tie rods were so beat up the plastic seal around broke and can easily move by hand. Handles much nicer now.
Holy shit.. today I...
Uprooted all my old dead sunflowers from last year
Bought new topsoil and seeds
Prepared the walk for sunflower planting
Planted sunflowers
Watched Animu
Pruned two giant raspberry bushes on my property and hauled all the shit to the compost heap for the city
Put the rims on my Corollathingy
Cleaned said rims, and put a couple interior pieces back in that I'd been to lazy to put on this winter
Found some new rust on the car :(
Pulled the front wheel off my KZ200 for a new tube
Cracked the taillight on my KZ200
Glued the taillight back together on my KZ200
And that's all.

But did you lose your way?
The only thing I lost was any amicable feelings between me and my upstairs neighbor.. because he doesn't want sunflowers planted again this year.
Guess what, too fucking bad. When you don't have a job you never have to leave the house, and thus never have to look at them, or walk through them. Problem solved.
My dog destroyed the remote for my cars alarm / immobiliser, so couple weeks ago I rang a locksmith who said they no one could help me and I was best off replacing the entire alarm system..
Anyway, woke up this morning, spent a good 90 seconds looking around under the dash for the alarm.. 5 minutes later, with no prior experience, its now completely disabled.
Makes me somewhat nervous, that was way too easy. Going one step further and hotwiring it would be simple.. Wonder how many cars actually get stolen in my area
