Brake caliper locked up and had my rotor smoking by the time I got to work. Cute. Rotor got miscolored and the pads are a little cracked.. but who cares. New caliper and life is good.
I took my Civic to my mechanic to change the MTF in my Civic and toss in new shift bushings today. Honda decided it was a great idea to give the fill bolt like 3" of clearance to the subframe so you JUST can't fit a socket wrench/breaker bar in there. The only decent leverage wrenches I have are 12 point and Oil Can Henry's most likely did it last so it was overly tight. Luckily what came out was oil so at least it wasn't like OEM fluid from 90'. Got some proper Honda MTF in there and new polyurethane shift bushings, now the transmission feels 100x better and the 1st gear synchros are working correctly allowing me to shift into it. However, my clutch is weak as hell, slips occasionally and still grinds going into reverse because the pressure plate is weak. The bottom end also is dripping some oil and bolts which I put into the oil pan 1350 miles ago are now missing... I'm also pretty sure my fuel pump strainer/filter fell down into the tank since whenever I'm around E or run down more than 8.5 of the 11.9 gallon tank it will starve of fuel and cut out..... [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/5601782/EF%20Pics/2014-05-23%2003.00.41.png[/t] I dunno if I can complain anymore though, it hasn't let me down once and even when I accidentally drove away with my cigarettes on the roof my rear wiper caught them for me doing 25-30 and when I stopped my front wipers caught the lighter flying forward. :v:
Changed the ignition switch in my mustang, still wouldn't start. Losing hope, spent 2 hours on google. End of the day comes and its time to button 'er up after changing the ignition switch, I look under the steering column and the past owner has a god damn kill switch installed!!! Probably bumped it with my leg when I got in so the cars all good now. Broke the vacuum tree, forgot to plug the provision for a vacuum line on the carb so it was running like shit + had 4 year old fuel. Put 89 octane im, fixed the vac issue and now it runs like a top! I'll see if because it isn't running lean anymore if it will still over heat. Haven't figured out why the electric fan wont come on yet though.
wish i had a place to work on my car, mkiv jetta gli...sucks to pay people to work on it. i would much rather just do it all myself.
Well, where do you park it?
My apartment doesnt allow people to work on cars on site
whoever thought up the fuel filter and FPR locations on the '96 Chrysler sebrings can burn in the fiery pits of hell. Need to replace a part the we recommend changing every 35K? here let's put it above the gas tank so you have to drop the whole shebang to get at it. need to replace the FPR because it was designed by morons and breaks if you glare at it wrong? oh you'd think it would be somewhere in/on the engine bay haha nope its on the fuel pump in the tank good luck fucker......god now I remember why I prefer Chevy's

Just be thankful it wasn't a PT cruiser, 'cause trust me, those are a thousand times worse.

I celebrated the day my mom got rid of her concorde
Did my first cambelt today with the help of my mechanically inclined friend. Changed it because the bearings in the water pump were making a horrific noise. First try the timing was slightly out so it stalled as soon as I applied any throttle, the keyway for the crankshaft pulley was way larger than the key actually on the shaft. Looking at the documents this is normal but the huge amount of movement means you have to completely lock off the camshaft pulleys and lock the flywheel rather precisely before locking the pulley in plate. Essentially sub-tooth precision. Runs fantastic now. After taking the cambelt cover off, there was about an inch of deflection on the bloody belt with pressure from my little finger, I'm surprised the damn thing even ran. Did the "accessories" belt at the same time. Learnt loads.

It's located on the side of the block under the intake manifold wedged next to the chassis rail. Your options are removing the intake manifold or doing it through the drivers wheel well with a bunch of extensions and wobblies. It's a "Lifetime part" on a truck that can often see 400k miles. :v:

It's just a bad attempt to reduce production costs for spare/replacement parts. At least I think so anyway.
Installed my sri today with perfect timing by the UPS guy. Much better throttle response and this lazy little 1.6 isnt so lazy anymore. Has a good sound too. Can't beat it for $32.
Dad's tyre change machine and wheel balance machine arrived so we took the oppurtunity to put on two new dunlops onto the evo. aaagh the tyre noise is painful. But I ain't complaining when both of the tyres were 100 bucks And since the car was on a hoist, I finally put on some new exhaust wrap onto the dump pipe. No more deep-fried sump yay! Some time after this event we'll swap the exhaust with this 'bogan spec' (as my dad called it) zorst we have and try that out
took out the back seats because fuck it... [t]http://i.imgur.com/aTXXRgS.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/IfPI9io.jpg[/t] Im going to cut bigger holes so I can gett access to my coilover adjustments, and make a new carpet because the oem one isnt big enough to cover the whole area. Ill probably buy one of those cargo nets and throw it where the back seat was too.
How much weight do you think you got rid of?
How much weight do you think you got rid of?
10-15lbs, hatchback backseats are hardly more than cushions.
That's pretty much what i was expecting. The back seats in the civic don't weigh anything, so i don't really ever see the need to take them out. Taking the seats out of a coupe vs a hatchback looks a lot more tacky though.
according to the internet, its a bit more than 20lbs. I kinda just wanted to get rid of them either way because they can barely fit my dog and dont like to taxi around people who are just going to complain about the ride.
Hatchbacks near double as a truck. Have you ever thought of cutting a board to completely flatten out the whole area up to the back seats? I've seen companies that make rear seat delete kits. yeah that's ideally what I want to do, and if they made a nice kit for my car id buy it.

My power antenna has been taking a lot of abuse recently so I've been thinking about installing a switch to control it (right now it goes up when the radio turns on, down when it goes off.) The factory head unit helped remove some of the stress by keeping the antenna up when you are starting the car (the after market head unit sends the antenna down while it's starting, then back up. So before you even have the car running the antenna has gone up, down, and up again.) Anyway, someone typed up instructions for keeping their headlamps up when the car was up and talked about doing something similar for the antenna. I got bored so I picked up a STSP toggle switch and some wire. I figured it couldn't be too hard, and really, it wasn't. Whoa, what happened to the back side of your car? That is a huge dent.
