I changed the middle muffler on the Golf 3 today. For the first time ever, a job without some simple time wasting problems or anything that breaks or anything like that. It all went smooth :v:
Something must be wrong.
[editline]28th June 2014[/editline]
Also it's when I get the money for the Golf 3 that I'm gonna buy a Subaru. I have sold it to my friend's mom but she's currently just loaning it until she can pay for it, which is when she gets her tax refund.
I decided to quit fucking around and went full time at work. Next check should be huge. Probably gonna put a new stereo and some nicer speakers in my car in the next month or two. It looks like its already wired for subs though.
Looking at headers too lol
Today I made the fist step towards turbo-ing my Dart. Originally I thought to do the GNX (87) turbo intake, but the parts themselves cost well into the $700 range, minus the actual Rochester carb, and it is an entirely draw-through setup. I've been leaning more towards a blow-through setup since it will be easier to "un-turbo" the car if I have to for any reason. I did a lot of research and was going to use my Weber carb, but there were no parts readily available that weren't expensive to change out the floats, and jets, etc.
So I'm getting a Motorcraft 2150 to do this to. All research pointed towards this carb working well with a 200ci Ford motor (whatever that is) and the rebuild kit is readily available. The carb is only setting me back $10, the jets will be about $15, and the rebuild kit is $15, along with $15 for two nitrophyl floats. I would tear it apart and clean the piss out of it, and blast the exterior, then repaint it to look better and the whole thing will be less than $100 total.
My next thought was the GNX used a T04E (I think) turbo which seems similar to a T3/T4. Ebay has kits for Hondas and what-not that run about $550 with a small intercooler, which looks like it would fit nicely above my bumper behind the grill, or even in a 6-pack hood scoop. It also comes with a J-pipe with the flange already welded on and a bunch of other stuff to pretty much finish assembly - I would only have to take the exhaust pipe off, weld a flange onto the J-pipe, make a mount for the turbo that uses the stock A/C and power steering bracket mounting locations, and then build a carb hat that goes to the tubing (can't justify spending $100 on a freaking Spectre plenum) and then route all the piping.
I want to basically have everything ready to go, and the parts all made so I can have the exhaust shop connect the J pipe to a flange for me, and mount the turbo and run the old carb on top with no plumbing, limp it home about 2 miles, and then plumb in everything. I'm assuming if I feed the turbo its oil line and just cover both ports with a filter or something it will just spin and do nothing for the short trip. It's still all a thought...
Ebay turbos are generally discouraged. They're often made of cheap materials, so you run the risk of something breaking and destroying the turbo, or worst case scenario, something flies out of the turbo, fucking up your intercooler or cat (if you have one) Some people have had good experiences with them, though, so I guess it depends on the maker.
I figured there was something to it. What would be a different source for a similar sized turbo? I don't have a cat or any other piece of emissions garbage. My car was built in 1967.
See of you can find a used turbo off an old 2.2L dodge, have to be like $75 so you cant go wrong. Dont know how well it would work for your application though but all i know is they are cheap. Bradly is the man to go to for turboing on a budget. Old diesel turbos are cheap and easy to find but they may be a bit big. The only other source of turbos is the odd import.

iirc Bradley tested some cheap ebay turbo and it was pretty damn great for the price
Too bad Bradley decided to have one of his "fits" a few months ago and hasn't posted since, he also deleted me and several other AA people off steam.
I still got him on Steam

and Facebook actually :v:

as well as in my heart.
Is the 2.2 the neon motor? If so I might be able to find one in a junkyard.

I heard you can get them balanced and they will run for a very long time.

I almost pissed him off majorly the other day because some one got on my computer to play LFD2 and spam invited everyone on my friends list.
oooops.

No, 2.2 is the predecessor. It is far superior to any neon motor bottom end wise, but the DOHC Neon heads are better and more easily accessible.

Worked on my rust box today. Sanded down part of the roof, now just everything else to replace :v:

Worked on my dented up fireturd.
Finally got my driver side daytime running lamp to work, some fat fuck american that assembled the thing never plugged it into the switch!

So in line for the turbo, that would likely be a mitsubishi branded turbo? Or garrett? Just curious what kind of car I'm going to be hunting down.
garrett iirc.
I ran a big ebay turbo on my civic for about 5k miles or something like that. It worked fine, for then, but i'd say don't cheap out on a china turbo, just get a truck turbo rebuilt or invest some money in a proper one.
You can custom order a T3 Turbonetics for $770, or a T3/T4 for about $880
T3

T3/T4

I'd also recommend looking up flow charts and figuring out exactly what your goals are and build one to fit it perfectly.

Those customes would be more than I want to spend on a totally experimental build using a carbureted motor. If I went with an EZ EFI and was just looking to cook money into it, I'd do that. Tons of people have already turbo'd the slant and gotten it into an 11 second quarter mile. I'm not looking to do that.
I think with the setup I have in mind, I can break maybe 200-220hp with 8-10lbs maybe. That's just from everything I've seen. Almost everyone, in fact - everyone I've seen who turbos a slant, does so to make it as fast as possible for racing. I'm looking more for a small turbo, that worked on a similarly sized motor, like a 200ci or so. There are plenty of people who turbo the ford 200 with the motorcraft carb. The motorcraft is also adaptable to my intake very easily. It's a weird setup because of the carb, so the boost reference will hit that, and the fuel pump I have to change out for electric and also get a fuel pressure regulator that adjusts to the level of boost otherwise it will not send enough gas under pressure.

He acts like a baby sometimes. He deleted me right after I was discussing the subaru AWD system on the forums, and he was wrong about its operation. I did not provoke him. It doesn't matter to me in the least, if he wants to throw fits, go right ahead.

Ah, well just bear in mind that 8-10 psi from a big 50 trim t3/t4 is going to make way more power than 8-10 psi from a little t3 50 trim. I only ran 6psi on my civic, but it was from a stupid 'didn't do enough research' china .63ar exhaust 60 trim t3/t04e. Didn't start to make real power until the last 1k rpm but when it did, it was pretty cool. Never got into the turbos efficiency range though.
That's why i feel so cock teased with my old turbo setup. I know exactly what i need to do to actually get a cool DD setup, but all my turbo stuff is broken and i can't afford it right now. If i were to do it again, i'd get a t3 super 60 with a .48 ar exhaust at around 8-10psi.

I mean, look at that stupid lag. It would make more sense if i was making big horsepower but i wasn't. It was just like a 30-40% power increase.
I'd definitely need something that would spool well in a lower rpm range since my car is limited by carburetion and slant six-ness. At wot, its only spinning 4200 rpm.
I installed a sub in my Cavalier yesterday, this morning I shortened up the wires a little so it's cleaner.

To each his own but I don't understand why people put big subwoofers in cars. You lose so much trunk space!
I love subs. I don't haul shit anyway other than my computer but I put that in the passenger seat anyway

Installed the same sub a week ago, it's underpowered, but I only wanted to have more bass to my system without losig access to my folding seats. Brings me at 10 speakers :v:
Asked my bf if he could bring me one forklift plug to make a quick disconnect so I can take it out in a split second.

When I had my Pontiac, I had the amp under the tire well cover and bought a set of banana plugs and a home in wall plate with connectors. I took the plate off and drilled two holes in the paneling to set the connectors, the sub wire had the two plugs on it that you pulled the collar back on to disconnect. Worked great and like a $5 investment. I think I got pictures of it somewhere.
