Going to ditch my eBay fake HKS fartcannon for this nice Magnaflow. It was nice having a boyracer catback but its simply too noisy for women in my car. Can't even talk or play music when driving around sounding like Takumi going downhill
To each his own but I don't understand why people put big subwoofers in cars. You lose so much trunk space!
I still have a good amount of trunk space: [t]http://i.imgur.com/W2IJJFO.jpg[/t] Originally, I was looking at a small 10" sub, the full enclosure was like a 12" cube. Though Futureshop had a deal on for that MTX sub, enclosure and amp which is lot less than the stuff I was going to buy. Though if I need the trunk space, I would probably know ahead of time (Changing tires, travelling, metric fuckload of groceries, ect), in which case I just spend 15 seconds opening the trunk, disconnecting the wire from the sub and throwing it somewhere in the garage. Maybe I'd take another 30 seconds to get the allen key from the toolbox and disconnect the amp power on wire. I went to a wedding a couple weekends ago and all the stuff I brought (Backpack, rolling bag and my suit) could have fit in there with my bin of car stuff and the sub.
A/C Conversion Step 1: Done: [t]https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Yfp7_WmalbI/U7M-C0HFRDI/AAAAAAAAAZA/hZhkPFQtZ-g/w935-h701-no/2014-07-01[/t] [t]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-BVK3HCFBMrQ/U7M97WP-9VI/AAAAAAAAAYo/5MjOx8t89bw/w935-h701-no/2014-07-01[/t] Got the correct low side plug today, removed the R12 schrader valves and plugged in the R134a service caps. I go to pick up the receiver/filter/dryer from Carquest tomorrow since there were problems with the order and then all that's left is seals and then the vacuum test and charge.
Why do Mercedes a/c compressors look so different from every other brand? Apparently they could never get the design right, because they are not reliable.
Fix'd a Chevy Cobalt starter today. Roomies GF gets home and parks in my spot, so I tell her to move cuz I'm working there. She goes to start and "THUNK". So I pull it off and the ONLY thing wrong is LITERALLY that it's dirty. Brush dust has somehow COVERED the whole inside of the motor and the best part? They are in perfect shape, what the fuck Chevy what are you doing making these things? Put it back together after a vigorous cleaning with brake cleaner, the whole can mind you, and away it starts. Then I changed the front driver tire with it's puny pissass pussy replacement doughnut. Me? Full size spare master race.

If you're gonna buy GM, go with a GMC instead. They're more expensive, but way better than chevy. I also have a full size spare. It's one of the stock rims and tires that my buddy kept to use as the spare when he put the 18x10 rims on it. And since I switched the fronts to 18x9s, I have a spare pair of 18x10 wheels/tires in the shed. So me? Using my track wheels as spares ultra master race :D
To each his own but I don't understand why people put big subwoofers in cars. You lose so much trunk space!
I don't understand how you couldn't have one. You lose a significant portion of the sound spectrum that gives music great depth.
To each his own but I don't understand why people put big subwoofers in cars. Firebird actually has a decent trunk thank you, I can fit a human being fine and a bunch of logs. Is rap meant to have a subwoofer so powerful that you can't hear the music? I don't get it.

I used to listen to nothing but rock but through opening up to drum and bass/hardcore back when I found good music from all sorts of genres. Having a nice little sub really opens up and widens out the whole sound, bass is more of a passive noise which makes you feel the music more than hear it IMO. There isn't any genre which doesn't benefit from a sub unless its so old that the bassline wasn't even recorded.. http://www.pandora.com/station/play/688842446044096676
You are not an intelligent human being, are you?
Don't hate on us for being young and inexperienced. (I don't think I'm getting this either)
Once you're in a car with a sub listening to music you like, you'll understand.
I literally can't find a good comparison video on youtube with some different kind of music with and without a subwoofer. Bass is a big part of pretty much any music genre and without a subwoofer you will lose that whole spectrum of tones. It will definitely improve the overall quality of pretty much any song. That is, unless you over-do the bass stuff. I'm guessing any anti-subwoofer person just has never listened to a properly tuned subwoofer with music they like
Once you're in a car with a sub listening to music you like, you'll understand.
Wait, that was it? Oh yeah, night and day difference, definitely. You don't need to put one of those huge boxes (a mate of mine has a 400kg box in the back of his S80) in there, though, it can be done much better.
If you really want a HUGE difference, one ported 12 and 2 sealed 8s would be amazing. Ported 12 covers long deep lows while sealed 8s provide the punchiness like kick drums and such. I would have an eargasm....
I'm guessing any anti-subwoofer person just has never listened to a properly tuned subwoofer with music they like
Exactly this. Tried convcing my dad to get a subwoofer and he didn't want to get one because it "overpowers the music". Sat him down in my car with the sub and he said it sounded amazing.
Why do Mercedes a/c compressors look so different from every other brand? Apparently they could never get the design right, because they are not reliable.
I think you are looking at the canister next to the distributor, and if that's the case, you are looking at the power steering pump. Mercedes never made their own A/C compressors, when they started fitting A/C to their cars in the 50s they first used York and Behr compressors and then in the 70s they used Delco compressors( also used on most GM products and were unreliable) and then in the 80s the switched to Nippon Denso an a couple other very similar brands. The Denso compressors are impossible to ruin unless if you drain all of the oil out of them an run them dry for 5 years straight. [t]http://www.benzworld.org/forums/attachments/w126-s-se-sec-sel-sd/455577d1342038398-ac-compressor-repair-2.-removing-ac.jpg[/t] This is a Nippon Denso compressor on an 80s Benz S-Class, an it looks like any other compressor- its the same compressor as mine.
Had my friend patch it up and weld the other hanger on. I cleaned it up and painted it matte black. It looks super sleeper now and close to an HKS muffler lol. This Magnaflow should hopefully be more low-key and quiet. Although it doesn't have a resonator we'll see
I've never said this before but that looks sexy.

That looks like a poor location for an A/C compressor. If the 80's compressors are so reliable, why are almost all of the old Merc's for sale have broken A/C?
If the 80's compressors are so reliable, why are almost all of the old Merc's for sale have broken A/C?
Because you touch yourself at night. You're not actually this stupid right? You understand that people don't recharge their AC and when they sell the car they say "broken AC" or "AC doesn't work", right?
I understand that, but at the same time, I've seen plenty of ads where they state they compressor is bad and needs to be replaced. And as an OVERALL GENERALIZATION, more Mercedes being sold have "A/C doesn't work" in the ads then say, toyota for instance. That shows there is an inherent flaw in the a/c systems of many Mercedes. I've looked at merc's in the late 90's to early 2000's and they still suffer from a/c problems.

There are 3 general things that can go wrong with the A/C in a Toyota, while on my old MB, there are 8 things I've encountered that can cause failure. It doesn't help that the repair I did today would cost up to $600 at a private mechanics shop, or $1000 at MB, that is if they didn't haggle you to fix other things, and a Toyota would cost less because there is less troubleshooting and less shit to fix. My A/C compressor is made by the same manufacturer as all Toyota compressors, its not an issue with the compressors, but with A/C faults, many people, even mechanics tend to default to saying that the compressor is bad. AND EVEN MECHANICS WITH OVER 40 YEARS EXPERIENCE will force people to get new compressors to fix many A/C faults-(even if they are unrelated), and leaks in the comp itself while the compressors are fully rebuildable. With used Mercedes cars, there is a big problem with routine matenence. For example, my car did not get proper oil filter changes for a while before I bought it(I could tell because the filter was beginning to desintagrate and the oil was black). Also the sunroof "just didn't work"- and that one was a fuse. And then for example, the plugs and wire were changed but cylinder 3 leaked gas from a bad injector and seal. Then when you go ask how to fix something like the A/C on an MB forum the first response is usually "Bring it to a Mercedes specialist shop" That's my rant for the day. In short, the systems are as reliable as any other car if they are properly maintained, if not then you have a whole sea of shit that can go wrong. Also don't look at late 90s- 2000s MBs, they are junk in every way but the A/C compressor Now back to what this thread is about: [t]https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-631dehfbgCM/U7X729ffg7I/AAAAAAAAAcQ/Uswj-IfTO9Q/w935-h701-no/2014-07-03[/t] My workspace was as uncomfortable as ever [t]https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-mueMcDanoVU/U7X6V-KX-gI/AAAAAAAAAZw/kWb3aR48iRI/w935-h701-no/2014-07-03[/t] The 28 year old refregirant lines put up a fight but I eventually prevailed [t]https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ufOQkqZqh7A/U7X7r-stmsI/AAAAAAAAAbc/pG9j1VTYS04/w935-h701-no/2014-07-03[/t] [t]https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y2Xm4QV4B_A/U7X7xebfRNI/AAAAAAAAAb8/eU8exdnc0Ug/w935-h701-no/2014-07-03[/t] Hooked up my new drier after replacing the seals in the high and low side lines except at the evaporator [t]https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3RdSkn7lgnc/U7X787gI_yI/AAAAAAAAAcs/5W_d0P6KnDY/w935-h701-no/2014-07-03[/t] The old line seals [t]https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-0HpycKai-Qg/U7X7ZF8DJ-I/AAAAAAAAAao/W7ZG4itqLbg/w935-h701-no/2014-07-03[/t] Does this remind you of someone elses car on here, minus the coolant pouring out all over everything? So after nearly a year of owning the evo, I adjusted the headlights to be equal. No more lazy eye yay Also couldn't find the boost leak either after pressurizing everything between the throttle body hose and the hose off the turbo... This is going to be fun :/
Turbo was fucked in the cummins, got a brand new one for $500 and it looks SO nice. Little bit of work to make it work but it'll be all worth it. Took the intercooler in line off to clean it out and 2L of oil comes out!! Anyone that knows diesel oil know its literaly satans blood so I do the mad scramble to find anything to soak it up. Pull off the intercooler out and another litre pours out, but I was prepared! Leaked another litre or so out over night, explaned why this thing blew blue 100% of the time because oil was going in and coming out the engine.
