8 quarts of synthetic yo oil alone is $80 [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] which they didnt charge me for
dbk... That all could be done over the weekend by YOURSELF or with help and afew beers. Hell the only thing that would be proven challenging is the control arm bushings :v:
wat. i can get 5 quarts of mobil1 for like 25 bucks i think it's been a while
5 quarts of mobil1 0-20 synthetic in walmart is about $35.
1) we don't have walmarts in northern VA 2) I work all day, don't have time to work on the car. When I get home it's dark and the carport doesn't have good lighting. 3) I would have fucked it up, and all my car friends went off to college so there's no one around that can help me with this shit. [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] Like I'm working right now, and tomorrow I have to get the boat squared away to go back in the water. No time to dick around w/the car.

It's really pretty easy and pretty hard to screw up, shouldn't take more than an hour your first time doing it, about 30min if your drain plug isn't stubborn and you don't have any sort of weird setup for the oil filter. I didn't even need to jack up my car for my Sentra or my girlfriends Cavalier, though the oil filter had a really stupid setup in the Cavalier.

I knew nothing about anything. But then again no job and plenty of time on my hands. Also a shop, that's important. Theirs just a sense of pride of fixing your shit by yourself. Plus if your OCD you can clean stuff that you will never see until you have to fix it again. :v: [editline]13th April 2013[/editline]
First time I changed my oil I just followed a tutorial on a forum, looked at a ehow tutorial to cross reference. Jack up entire front, Unbolt Steel Oil pan guard, remove oil plug, Let the drive side down, Let drain for 20min (OCD EVERY LAST DROP), and reverse.
Hello, Timothy. Doing anything saturday night? [editline]13th April 2013[/editline] I might call you later. <3 ~~~
;_; [editline] fdjng[/editline] I try to be nice and give y'all a stright PDF. But noooooooooooo VLC here gotta go all creepy.

They had to do an oil change because they put solvents in the oil to clean shit up while doing the VCGs.
I'm just a stuck up old pompous bastard with very simple tastes sorry. I like my old cars - big sedans, excessive V8's and beat up old 4wd's basically hahaha, that R32 is just way too blingy for my tastes. I honestly wouldn't be caught dead in it. There's always exceptions but, it fits a stereotype that I'm just not a fan of. Different strokes, different folks :)
Would this better suit your fancy? Been repairing scratches [t]http://i.imgur.com/xOb0Rii.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ziCpG4z.jpg[/t] Looks bigger than it was in the picture. Took me like 2 hours to polish it out, especially as there were a couple more like those, just not as severe.
That 55 is pretty awesome.
yeah, if the guy wanted to fine tune the shit out of that v12, he could probably get WAY more than 3k HP, but it seems like he just took a supercharger and slapped it on a low compression plane engine basically.
Well, it's not like it took a whole lot of time, money, and effort to build a chassis around a Merlin. :v:

I can't imagine there being a whole lot to tune on such an engine other than CNC'ing new parts, porting heads, or creating a more efficient carb, supercharger, and intercooler. Good luck though: [t]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f8/Packard_Merlin_V1650_7_3.jpg[/t]
I was thinking intake + heads would make it even more kickass.
I was thinking intake + heads would make it even more kickass.
Or just route the exhaust gasses straight back and fill it up with E85.
The Merlin consumed an enormous volume of air at full power (equivalent to the volume of a single-decker bus per minute), and with the exhaust gases exiting at 1,300 mph (2,100 km/h) it was realised that useful thrust could be gained simply by angling the gases backwards instead of venting sideways.
Lol I'm dieing.
I got a v12 Rolls out of a Spitfire, and with a supercharger, does not make 3k horsepower. Maybe more like 1200. I'll get some pics of it in the warehouse tomorrow maybe.
are those the engines that were in those two cars jeremy clarkson drove around the top gear track that were inspired by british and german fighter planes?

Put a new rear end under a suburban. Pretty strait forward...
Awesome dbk - I'm not going to give you shit about the costs, I do understand. And I'm glad to see they took care of the valve cover seals too - did you specify that or did they do it automatically? As I mentioned that's an utterly critical component of the repair. Today... well, I spent all of this first-sunny-day-in-3-weeks doing the intake manifold swap on my 7. For anyone who doesn't know, I've got the 3.0L V8 in my 7 series, and the 4.0L intake manifold and throttle body are direct upgrades to what I have. The TB on mine is 3", whereas the 4.0L is 3.5" with a MUCH less restrictive throttle wedge bolted on. The intake manifold has thicker, wider runners (your car could well benefit from this upgrade dbk!!). Got stuck into it, took it slow, cleaned and double checked everything as I went. I cannot tell you the kind of difference this upgrade has made... seriously. Dramatically improved throttle response, and unquestionably more power across the entire band. For the first time, it's chirping the tires when taking off from lights - I need to re-adjust how hard I press the throttle, it was very heavy before. It's even altered the exhaust note slightly for the better, and it just sounds deeper. Some pics; First, the teeny tiny B30 throttle body; And this is the (scummy looking) B40 throttle body, huge difference in size and the bolted on plates are WAY thinner than the B30; The B30 and B40manifolds side by side, not hard to guess which is which; Old manifold out; New manifold in; I finally wired up my own solution to the dodgy throttle cables since the clips are stupidly expensive and hard to find; And another little surprise - I've been driving the car much more spiritedly since I last had the manifold out, and upon inspection this time, almost every cylinder port had SIGNIFICANTLY less carbon deposits in it. Awesome! These were all caked in a fine layer of carbon previously, wish I had a before pic! And lastly, an interesting side effect of this upgrade, my gear shifts have become smoother. This upgrade was worth every penny, I couldn't be happier :)
I wish I had a car I could work on, my car has a service plan my parents took out which means it only gets serviced once a year.
Epic. I think my 4.4 has plenty of power, hard to imagine an e38 with anything less. Glad to see you're getting up there :) Also about the intake runners - how much of a difference would they make on an M62? [editline]14th April 2013[/editline] I secretly want a supercharger :S
