Not completely car related, but i spent today cleaning out our shed/workshop.
Once tuesday is here, im throwing out a bunch of my old parts (13mm rear sway, old driver seat, random steel wheels i bought to test paint) Ive had the sway and seat advertised for a while for free, but no one wants them.
Also still trying to sell a set of struts+springs i bought, no ones even made an offer and im at 75. I cant believe it
Opened my radio up, I cant find the jam for the life of me, the left side just will not slide back more than a half cm.

I give up, can't find the switch that tells the stereo that the tape is in.

Time for a nice aftermarket deck :)

It might be what I've circled in red, the terminals in light blue.
You might be able to fix it, you said it was getting stuck/jammed right? Check the gears I circled in yellow, they look like the loading gears if they're missing teeth, that could explain the whirring you hear.

Take another picture of the tape sections underside, I might be able to spot something.

He's repainting it.
Had to take the spacers off, with ANY weight in the back, the car immediately starts to rub. I really need to get some new springs since these sink so easy.
Though the rubbing problem will be fixed wednesday.
I did put the rear mudflaps back on for some reason but I never got around to putting on the front sway bar.

both the yellow circled gears operate fine, I have literally checked every single gear with no luck
[t]http://i.imgur.com/AuwSBds.jpg[/t]
this is the same angle, flipped over. The gold gears spin the cassette and work fine. Its hard to see all the other gears.
As for the switches, I checked the red/brown, yellow/orange, purple/grey. including all three selected and 1 or two at a time. The other two combinations are for servo's and didnt change the outcome.
Just buy a new deck...
Just buy a new deck...
Send me $100 for a nice one that matches my interior.
And I have an aftermarket one already, just no aux support
I got mine for $30 at a pawn shop and it doesn't look too bad...
besides, there's a nice sense of accomplishment that comes with having hacked something to work how you want it
My automerge!
Send me $30 then. I just don't have money for something as superfluous as a new stereo, I have two that work
I got mine for $30 at a pawn shop and it doesn't look too bad...
I got mine $40 brand new
Ended up looking better than my original, sounded as good/maybe better than original. Only downside is no control for the backlighting brightness
Has USB, AUX, SD slot, AM/FM
The problem is that my stock radio is single din, but with a wider faceplate. I have a cover for the extra space, but it just doesn't look as nice as the stock radio. The stock radio also has a lot of nifty features that most low end stereos dont (volume ramping, ect)

I only see one switch on there, the one with the purple and grey wires. If you haven't already (you have I'm sure) check the contact tabs really closely, they tend to bend out of shape. Also, check the solenoid, the thing with the orange and yellow wires. Test it with an ohm meter. It looks to me like that moves something to draw in/eject the tape.
So what's the verdict on metric class 10/10.9/12.9? Anyone have insight into these kinds of bolts and nuts? I'm on the fence about using hardware store fasteners to secure my pressure plate to my flywheel. All signs are pointing OEM though
I wouldn't go anything but OEM, it's just totally not worth it to have them back out. I wouldn't chance it when it comes to the clutch assembly and the stress it goes through. I found this on google though if you're gonna go for it.

ARP apparently recently released bolts for the KA24 which is what you have right? I'd probably end up going with that over OEM when faced with the cost and availability, let alone ARP is generally considered better than OEM.

should be a orange and white wire( usually ) , most harness do not have a place for it and alot of installer will the wrap it up leavig the headunit on full brightness all the time. . but i usually run it to the park light fuse, with a add a circuit. works great.

arp is what i used on my fidenza flywheel worked great for 100000 miles. till toyota bought it back .
Yeah, ordered it; on it's way. I didn't know SummitRacing carried their fasteners.
Also, I found out today that the passenger tie rod end on GF's S13 just has tremendous play. Damn and here I was drifting and road racing it. So much play the wheel probably wiggles at high speeds
Yeah no problem! I figured they made them at least for some cars. They just came out on April 17th according to their Facebook so you pretty lucky on that one lol.
I love how whenever I procrastinate work I injure myself and that pushes it out even further.. Got my ITR suspension a couple weeks ago, still waiting to rewire my sub's remote wire which fried out into my deck thanks to the mexican P.O who installed it being too short since I need to cut a new spare tire cover anyways.
It's so much fun to have weak wrists or something. I literally woke up one morning, went to breakfast and when I went to open up the car door it hurt a little and progressively got worse over the drive home to the point where I couldn't use it because pressing into the steering wheel with my left hand hurt too much. I did nothing strenuous to it and it literally feels like I tore the entire fucking thing to the point where picking up a shoe with it in a splint later that day made me scream in agony.. So much for doing anything on my car this week.
Was at autozone, seeing if they had antenna balls (grandparents wanted some to help spot their car easier in a parking lot.)
Ended up finding some nice and big mudflaps to replace my old ones. They look much better.

Look in Pics of Your Car for more.
Wanted to mount my Hella Foglights on my Passat, but it started pouring down right as I dug out the tools needed.
bummer :/

Sounds like the bushings to me
So today I finally got my engine back in my car. It was done last friday but because my number changed and I forgot theirs to tell them mine changed, I found out today it was done.
I got most of it back together, the only thing stopping me from progressing are 7 little bolt washer/grommets that hold on the inner valve cover plates. I could swear that I had put them in my car, but I think the dude who cleaned the plates fucking lost em'... the fucker. What ever, I'll get new ones I needed to anyway.
It needed a bunch of work plus new rings and bearings, but because I did so much work pro-bono they payed for the parts and did the work for free. Too bad too, a bunch of shitty shit went down and now I can't help out/work there.
Pics tomorrow maybe.
cleaned some rust off of my plate covers, so much hard work. also replaced the screws with some bolts, because the screws were brown

Funny how such small things are responsible for steering a whole car. All is well in the world again

Today, I got around to removing a strut. I was about to replace all four of the dampeners when I realized my replacements were blown. Yeah, you aren't supposed to be able to compress them with your hands lol.
