Put the OEM hubcaps on.
They look damn sexy.
I do not think those look damn sexy at all.
i can't stand steelies on the p71

Neat. Someone did the same thing a while back on their E38 (7 series BMW) and it looks alright, but I think this only works well on certain cars. Sportier 'show cars' suit it best... I think it'd be neat if you could easily customise the projected image though - just do a soft bar of light with the classic =BMW= logo in it, or simply 'Welcome' perhaps... Even just the smooth bar of light!
That was my one biggest complaint - total lack of ability to customise what you project.
Started testing the lights on the Raptor.
All of them work good and are LED's.
The truck was made to run on a 9.6v battery, so i took a 9v battery and a couple wires, and put them in the plug until i got lights;
[t]http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/9184/ufm7.jpg[/t]
My plan is one 9v for headlights, one for the roof lights.
Ill just have to find a couple of those plugs made for a 9v battery, no idea if i can buy those online or not.
Maybe eventually, if i decide to cut the body, i could put a toolbox in the bed, add switches in the box, etc
Edit;;
A quick search shows that Radioshack sells two versions of a connecter, each version comes in a 5 pack for only $3. Much cheaper than i expected for some reason

Some fella on ebay has a set for ~$20 that you email his a picture and he makes a set for you with that picture.. perhaps that's what you'd need??
A couple people I work with are now hot to trot to get decepticon ones in their doors!
hey guys i'm havin trouble with a misfire in one of my cylinders and it's really starting to get annoying. i replaced the plugs and coils and it's still the same cylinder. i swapped em and it didn't follow so i don't know what's going on. i have a cylinder 3 misfire and it's a 24v vr6

You try changing your wires? I had a misfire in an old Chevy v4 I had previously; one day it started running and sounding like a lawnmower. It turned out to be a bad wire on my 2nd cylinder. I swapped it out and she ran perfectly fine.
It could also be your distributor; if it's developed a hairline crack and moisture has seeped in that could effect the spark which in turn effects the firing in each cylinder.

Check the injector. Last time I worked on a VW that had a single cyl misfire it was a faulty injector.

injector was fine. but i did figure it out. i got sold a faulty coil. now my mass air flow is completely dead haha.
joys of german engineering. oh well i love my vw

Am I the only one that finds this unnecessary and super tacky? It's like... we already know it's a VW?
It's cool, but I wouldn't want it on my car. :v:

compression on that cyl vs the others??
Ordered 10 9v battery connectors. Was $6.50+free shipping on Amazon vs $3+ shipping on Radioshack for 5 of them.
Only need 2, but i want a couple backups incase they get torn apart or something. Plus, the extras will be good for other projects i bet.
Also researched into 9v batteries.
Turns out a regular, Heavy Duty Rayovac is about 350 mAh while an Alkaline Rayovac is 550 mAh. Regular is $1 in stores, Alkaline is like $3 a piece. Not sure if id rather pay less and change more, or pay more to change less
People keep telling me I should get some rims, but I actually kind of like the black steelies.
Story of my life. The only reason i want new rims now is because i want to run wider tires/lower sidewall. I'd grab some 16x7 4x100 steelies with the right offset for cheap, if they existed.

You just gotta look, I ran steelies for awhile on mine, I think that a nice set of wheels really brings out the car.
I agree. It just wasn't/isn't a priority to me. I wanted power, not style. Now that i've got the turbo on, once i finish getting it reliable (i/e get an air filter on it, and replace the o rings on the injectors. little things.), i'm ready for new rims and tires.
I was pretty happy to get my factory steelies off, even though i went to a5-spoke steelie that weighs 3lbs more on each corner.
My next step are my Legacy GT alloy wheels, which weigh 5lbs less than these wheels on each corner.
20lbs in total, however since its rolling and unsprung, supposedly it has an affect as if i took 200lbs off my car.
Wondering if thats all BS or not. Ill see once i get healthy and finish the work on the wheels
No posts in 21 hours?
Ill just update this with what i did today
Finished peeling the stickers off the Raptor, like it a lot more now;
[t]http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/764/bdz4.jpg[/t]
-rewired the fuel pump with 6ga wire (free from the job).
-Modified the filter on the vacuum/boost line to the BOV, no more compressor flutter.
-Fixed a boostleak in one of the weld on the hotside charge pipe
-Datalogged and Tuned a bit of boost runs with my ms3pro

If you're looking for a filter which is great for tight spaces like off a turbo, I've heard Uni filters are really great. It's flexible so you can fit it just about anywhere. Comptech/CT Engineering uses them for all their filters too so they have to be pretty decent.

Sold my turbo today!
Worked around tearing down the engine. Camshaft is out(Had one lobe scored down on cyl.3 area, guess that's what a collapsed lifter gives!), heads are out to be magnafluxed, cleaned, surfaced, new valve seals, springs, milling down the valves too.
To my surprise, no chipped pistons, block surface is cleaned out, cylinder walls are cleaned out, shiny, pistons are carbon-less now too.
S/C is painted metallic charcoal.
Only gonna need to re-assemble everything and put it back in the car.
I do non-destructive testing for a living, mag particle is one of those methods and I have never done an engine head before. It seems like of those things that if it is going to crack, you will be able to see it. Also, kind of pointless if it is aluminum as it doesnt hold a charge well.
Iron block and iron head baby. And those heads like to crack a tiny wee bit where you barely can even see it.
I would hate to have one cracked, I've got two spare heads here, but they're from a N/A L36 block with smaller valves and w/o injector hole, so they're good for trash, at least for me.
Would need to find one from an L32 with the right big valves, or find two L67 heads with the smaller valves since they have the injector holes.
Sold my turbo today!
I've already got a filter to go on (it was like $60 so i'll be kicking myself if i don't use it,) the problem is, my lower radiator hose is in the way of the intake on the turbo (and the turbo intake is a fucking massive 3 inches.) I'm probably going to buy some stainless radiator hose that is bendable, and then fab up an intake pipe. The problem is i can't get any pipe on the intake, because that hose is obstructing it.
>what is continuity
>what is wiring diagrams

Gauge cluster bulbs are next, pretty dim now
I'm thinking of running green LEDs in the interior under the dash and in the dome light.
Did this:

Having it re-done by a buddy who does detailing for a living. Two of my friends did it and it's off-center, folded over a bit, and bubbly as all hell.
Took the cage thing out of the bed, slapped on a temporary tailgate so things dont fall out;
[t]http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/4624/6a4n.jpg[/t]
Eventually i will make a better tailgate. Need a new plastic welding gun first. Accidentally broke mine when i was trying to take out the tip. But, now i can atleast modify my old tip and have two tips for the new gun

The Skyline was a pov-spec model by the looks of it as it did not come with power steering, so naturally my Dad wants me to put it in. I don't care to much I prefer it with out. So to do this we need to replace the steering box that connects to control arms and the steering wheel, then theres also the pump that runs off the engine. This cam driven fuel pump sits in the way of where the power steering pump should go:

At first we got an MR30 (next gen Skyline) EFI fuel pump in the deal with the power steering gear, but it would just flood the carb. So we went to Supercheap Auto and got this cheapo fuel pump:

Had to take out most of the back to run the cable (Didn't help that we had two wiring diagrams which didn't match up to each other or the car, one from a 1977 carb'd car and a 1980 manual for an EFI car):

Underneath looks pretty good for a 34 yr old car:

Did some other things:

These two bottles where just cable tied to each other and the older looking mount until they fell off. I bent up some aluminium in a 90 degree fashion, rivited it to the older panel then used cable ties, bit less ghetto.
This was all with the help of my Dad as i am really busy at the moment, he seems more enthuastic than me really.
More shots.
