i don't know if i would really want an island full of facepunch posters though.

I don't believe anyone here pacifically in AA play rust, we mainly make tons of posts to get rid of it.
I had a rust account. Apparently it got deleted though.

I still haven't learned to not let family use my tools. I'm missing over half my tools and half of whats left aren't even mine.
I used my daily driver Saturn to practice my DA polisher skills today. One pass on with medium compound, one pass with light swirl remover, and a wax application. It really looks excellent, though parts of the car still have some pretty bad scratches. Maybe I should have started with a cutting pad and some serious compound, then went from there.
No paint on the foam pad, so apparently I still have clear coat left.
Couldn't torque down the fasteners to finally attach the head on my block.
I don't have a 12mm 12-point, deep socket 3/8. I wish this community was a neighborhood. I could probably walk over to Bradley's and he'd give me five of his spares
I literally have 5 of those sockets, I bought half a dozen when I started building Honda engines out of my shop because ARP hardware used those stupid nuts.

Exactly. I went to Sears and bought one for $6. Their set was $29.99 too much right now. Stupid ARP's
My torque wrench's reading is starting to bounce around; maybe I can get a new one tomorrow

Pulled the engine out of the GSi today.
I helped but I didn't complete it. My other friend has a shop where he was able to use tools and the space.

It might actually be more stable and solid now than before his acccident. The radiator core support and front bumper assembly have been stitch welded together as well as his shock towers. All this for free; I think it's great that the 240 community can get together like this and help someone out. All the parts and services have been for free
Ugh, where do I start?
I got my NPR intercooler test fitted, I will have to move my transmission cooler at the least and possibly my oil cooler. No idea on the pipes, heard stock ones work.
Fitted up my new wastegate, arm that connects to the flapper is too big and I can only fit a cotter in part way before it hits the other side. I got really frustrated on that one till I figured it out. Also got the brackets all mounted up really nice with no flexing.
I put on what I thought was the correct preload. Instead I ended up boosting to 16psi at not even half throttle. That car can fucking move with that much boost but thankfully I didn't hear any audible detonation.
During this run since I was really happy my turbo was boosting quite a bit. My wiper motor decided to completely and utterly die to the point it is a noisy slow bastard where intermittent decided not to exist anymore.
great..
I ripped my cluster out to replace the stock bulbs with green LED's

Alright it's 8pm, dark as hell out and I just got it back together, lets turn it on and see how it looks!

Oh...
Well I'm ripping it back apart tomorrow because I'm pretty sure that I put the LED's in the wrong way. At least they are hell of a lot brighter than the stock bulbs.
My Daytona's dash lights are already bright green.
I don't like my dash lights to be super bright.
I even dim the red lights in the BMW on long road trips at night.
Easier on the eyes.
It's not so much for night driving as it is for extremely bright days or sunsets where I can't see how fast I'm going or what rpm I'm at.
I'll most likely fiddle with the dimmer for night driving vs day driving.
Why do you need backlit gauges for the day time?
Aren't your dials white-on-black?
They are, but the glare on the plastic cover gets so bad when I'm facing any angle away from the sun that I'm unable to see my gauges unless if I block out the light with my hand, which isn't exactly the best thing to do.
That sounds like a design flaw. My dash lights only turn on when the headlights are on.
All the gauges are white during the day, and red at night.
I love German lighting :)

Is the plastic cover faded/rough when you look at it?
On my Impreza, it was fairly faded and i could really notice it when the sun hit it.
I ended up taking some Turtle Wax trim restore and using that to fix it. Looks much better, think i even posted pictures here when i did it

Well, I do need to at the headlights on for my dash lights come on, so I doubt it's a design flaw and more of the way the sun hits it.

It is heavily faded, like how it is in your before picture and I'm quite impressed with your results so I think I will try the same on mine when I take it out again.
Since I installed my 800cc Sard side-feed high-impd injectors, I'm having the time of my life (\sarcasm) tuning my 1jz.
Since those are similar to the OEM except they flow much more (and the deadtime is not that good since it's high-impendence) it is very hard to control small pulses. This is a problem since at idle you require a minimal amount of fuel (less pulsewidth than what it takes to fully open the injectors) and the SARD specs (1.600msec opening) is at a 14V nominal. But injectors deadtime or latency arent linear and the specs @ 13.6 have to be guessed, trial and error. On top of that, I'm running semi-sequential injection (OEM wiring harness), which mean that one cylinder get fuel dumped on the intake valve for a small moment, making a stoich idle (14.7) impossible to get without misfire. I found a way around the whole problem:
I have to get a decent pulsewidth (I found that 1.3msec to 1.6msec is very linear) at idle without going too rich. The trick is to reduce the timing so that the poweroutput is lessen, this reduce the idle speed but you increase the ISCV (idle system control valve) Opening to reach a decent idle speed, meanwhile you increase the fueling by a small amount. I ended up getting a stable warm idle at 850rpm, 13.5afrs, 12 Deg timing.
The rest of my VE tables have to be scaled because the megasquirt reqfuel calculations only covers the injectors volume in the VE table scaling, the deadtime isn't applied to the tables. This mean that I have to TUNE TUNE TUNE TUNE TUNE.
also in the making: Water/meth injections
Torquing down my camshaft fasteners and I'm wondering why my wrench isn't clicking yet.
Feels real soft.
I'm tightening for a couple seconds longer than usual now.
That feeling.
That feeling of needing to buy Helicoil now.

A lot of people don't realise, but there's a very specific reason why BMW started pioneering amber night lighting. You probably know this already dbk, but amber is the colour typically used in aircraft cockpits - military / air force at first, but across the board with most passenger planes now. Military testing shows that the time taken for your eyes to adjust or adapt from one lit focus point to another (lit or unlit) is both the fastest and least stressful when using amber or red lighting. Like how if you've ever been watching a military or air force themed movie and seen red lights in the vehicles for example...
Plus they also focus tested and determined that amber was the colour least likely to hold your attention for too long - they want you focusing on the road and not the pretty neon blue/green lights on your dash!
Yes, I do know all of that :)
I've been in the CIC of an Arleigh Burke during combat drills.
Shit is cash.
I learned that you can test wastegate actuators with a bike pump and don't need air tools
I also found out why at less than half throttle I was at 17psi and blew off an intake hose.
Shit was fast as fuck though.
No detonation that I could hear either.
Uncontrolled boost is fun, you should try it :v:
I fixed my lights, and thanks FordLord for the restoration suggestion, it worked really well and no more haze.

I once worked on a Volvo XC70 where the wastegate was stuck so it gave full pressure almost immediately. It was quite the ride.
