Yes, I do know all of that :) I've been in the CIC of an Arleigh Burke during combat drills. Shit is cash.
Awesome. Sorry wasn't trying to lecture you or anything, just sort of posting that for 'the masses'. Also on a related note, I just scored a set of perfect condition wood grain C-pillar porn lights & front dome light assembly from a 750iL for only $100... I've been stalking eBay and local websites for these parts and the AVERAGE price for a fair to poor quality set is about $150+ for the C-pillar lights, and $80+ for the front dome. So I'm beyond happy. I was offered all four wood grain grab handles for $50 which IS a good price, but the wood veneer was so deteriorated they were unsalvageable :( I'll just wrap my grab handle centers in 3M di-noc glossy wood grain, and that'll finish the 'set'. They've also offered me a stitched leather dash for about $200 which again is a total steal (they're normally about $800+ where I am) but they can't actually find the dash yet haha. I'm totally stoked. [t]http://imageshack.us/a/img543/9052/hzj4.jpg[/t]
dude that's awesome I need to throw some new rubber on my car...no idea what to get. I'm thinking pirelli, but I don't know at the moment. I've also been wanting to do some fixing up of the interior of my 7. There is some scuffing on the drivers door jamb trim, so I want to replace that. The drivers seat also has deformed a little over the years and it squeaks when cornering, so I want to try to remedy that. I have some friends that are good with electrical and welding, so I was thinking about cutting a hole in my exhaust system and putting a valve in. Press a button and you get that glorious sounding exhaust note, then press it again and you're back to civilized cruising.
I wish i could find parts for my car locally. Its always either pre-98 Imprezas, or the right car with the wrong options. Im currently deciding between driving hundreds of miles, or taking the chance of shipping a hatch

I kinda want to trade the Audi for a wide body wagon cough s4 wagon cough

Incredible grip wet or dry, absolutely no noise at all, and extremely good wear mileage. I simply cannot fault them, and they're cheaper than the P-Zero's which I have driven an E38 with before and found them to be SO STICKY... it was too much, and they had a bit of a grumble on hard cornering. Could be where the lower plastic side trims meet the seat sliding rails, either that or it's something internal to the seat backing like the mounting clips. Try just giving it a hefty whack all around the outer edges of the seat-back, could help rest things in a better position. I have an occasional rattle of all things in my passenger seat, gave it a whack from behind and that shut it up for a month. Very annoying. I need to do some repairs to one of my rear upper door trims (the black tortoise shell textured part). Whenever I bit a slight bump, it squeaks because the wooden backing that clips it against the door frame is broken and won't go in. Think I need a new panel, or I have to rig up some MacGuyver stuff :(
I have some friends that are good with electrical and welding, so I was thinking about cutting a hole in my exhaust system and putting a valve in. The stock mufflers on th E38 are mind bendingly overdone, have you ever seen inside of one before? 3 Baffles, no interconnecting gates, 6 looped lengths of pipe and everything having to use backpressure to force itself out through multiple perforated sections of pipe and pointless dead ends. They work, extremely well, but wow did they overdo it. If you're going to do that kind of mod, I think you should start by getting a set of mufflers that would be easier to work with, something like a Magnaflow XL which is a far freer flowing 3 chamber design - I'm about to put a set on mine. They would be a LOT easier to modify as you like - just add a valve to the flat backface beside the existing single exhaust tip and actuate that, easy as.

I wonder what the HP gain would be after removing some of that crap would be, since it has to go through so much stuff to get out the back of the car. What I do like is having the car set up for dual exhausts already. No 5 series has them on both sides, not even the 540...and it makes a world of difference in the exhaust note.
How are your Potenza's in the snow? It gets cold here, and with summer drawing to a close I don't really want to get a set of summer performance tires.
I'm in Australia mate, Queensland at that... Haven't seen snow in my entire life hahaha. But from what I've read online and via reviews, the RE050A's aren't really that great in the snow, they're almost purely a warm weather tyre. Bridgestone's Turanza's are a pretty good all-rounder from what I've heard, but again being in Australia I really can't comment on the snow performance aspect. You may have to get in-country guidance on that one :) As far as power gains from free flowing exhaust on these cars, short of a dyno run to spot it, don't expect anything tangible. A lot of people waffle on about backpressure being good, but in reality (as you probably know) due to the exhaust scavenging effect from a V form engine, you really want your exhaust to flow as freely as possible (if you were a diehard Aussie I'd just say "Look at the exhaust design on the V8 Supercars). So theoretically, there should be SOME gains, but in reality I doubt you'd ever just cut your mufflers off and go "Wow look at that improvement!". I had my mufflers off for a week or two and there was honestly never a moment when I felt it made a difference. Maybe a dyno would show a 1hp improvement, but who knows... This is the design of the Magnaflow XL I mentioned; 3 chambers, interconnecting gates, separate adjoining perforated pipes in any configuration you need. It's like a really unrestricted version of the stock muffler - I personally want a BIT more noise without taking it too far, and these should provide the perfect balance between cut off mufflers and the stock monsters they used. If you're at all curious, here's one variation of the stock internals; [t]http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/rhett/Step%204%20-%20Internals%20before%20gutting%20%28Small%29.JPG[/t] And this is what Dinan does to them to create their overpriced 'performance' mufflers; [t]http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr153/TxDarth/Dinan%20Muffler%20Mod/IMG_1145.jpg[/t] I'll let you know how the Magnaflow XL's go :)
How are your Potenza's in the snow? Ive had them twice, first time they were at half tread, and i still went threw several Maine winters using them. Also rallied them, they grip great on dirt. Second time, bought some brand new. They were quiet, handled amazing no matter the weather. Theyre rated as 85k mile tires iirc. Now im using Mastercraft Glacier Grips. Soft as hell, loud as hell. Next time ill either get more KR21's, or more snow tires
This is what I put on my truck, sounds good, but it's not very loud. Breathes a hell of a lot better than the stock muffler, even though it was full of holes. I think the old one was nearly plugged up. [t]http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m598/Awike1991/FB_IMG_13477292241478973.jpg[/t]
So..it's a straight pipe with a decorative box around it?
If anyone has any issues I tell them its stock. they look under the car and see stock pipeing. And if they ask why is it mildly loud I tel them "lol its audi"
Those wood grain parts arrived today, they're in even better condition than the pic above shows. Absolutely not a SINGLE hairline crack in ANY of the wood grain... This deal just proved itself to be even better than I could have hoped for. Will whack in some LED's and get it installed ASAP :D [t]http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/2775/cjd6.jpg[/t]
Went to the machine shop to get that camshaft bolt thread fixed. Guy was nice enough to Helicoil all the threads for the camshaft for free. He said so because I was a frequent customer. I love mom and pop shops. I love how there are still decent people in this world. Makes me feel joy

Ray and Stevie from a machine shop I worked at for a hot second are just like that, I did a ton of work for em' and didn't bother asking for anything and in return they rebuilt my engine for freezies, even bought rings, bearings and pistons for it. Woulda' cost me 2500 bux if I were just Joe schmo. I guess that's the trade off, bunch of work for a free engine rebuild.
Not a bad deal really. It'd be a bunch of work either way.
Well. I'm going to rage. Cylinder 1= 110psi Cylinder 2= 80psi Cylinder 3= 10psi Cylinder 4= ???psi Welp. Engine overhaul is in preparation. [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1031910/VW%20Beetle/2013-09-04%2019.16.40.jpg[/t] R.I.P.

My friend and I continued working on his system. Two Platform 2 12" PSI subs, and one 3600w amp. It was previously running 2 1800w amps, but one burned up. Oops. Recently we flipped the subs forward and have been working on sealing them off from the trunk entirely to prevent destructive interference with the wave reflected from the trunk if it's allowed to go that way. So here's goodies. fuzz pic.. can seal the expanding foam on one side chillin My friend carpeting a trim piece and a messy rear. Planning to make a nice rack for the amp.. we've got a couple 10" radiator fans that are probably going to get incorporated somehow; most likely firing through a hole under the amp outward, just to provide as much cooling as possible. It runs at .5ohms stable per channel.. but that's a hell of a lot of heat no matter how you look at it. See your rocking the MA audio amps. Must have some pretty beefy electrical I hope then eh? Great amps but chugs the power like gatorade haha And then your running at .5 stable thats even more! My civic can barely power my amp for a single TC 3000 on 1.4 ohms after big 3 rewire and second battery.
RIP What? What do you even own that isn't broken
Lot's of things. Just my vw's enjoy the lazy side of life. But this time the engine really is not to blame its myself. My fault for not changing and making sure my generator light was working. :v:
Subaru bros how much should I sell this VF52 turbo? <10K miles
I don't know anything about car audio. That being said, I've got a 96 Explorer Limited with JBL Audio, and I need to replace the 6.5" Subwoofer.I believe the stock amp is 85W and the speaker is 4Ohm. Mounting depth is ~3". Will this work if I cut a bigger hole? http://www.jlaudio.com/8w1v2-4-car-audio-w1v2-subwoofer-drivers-92070
If that's rms wattage and not peak it should be fine
If that's rms wattage and not peak it should be fine
85W RMS (170W peak) according to Google.

But it looks like your head gasket is just blown. 90psi to make minimal comp. I'd say new head gasket and you're good, or you overheated adn fried the valves. Although I dont know if air cooled motors overheat... or do they have head gaskets... its all magic to me. Speaking of overheat. Bought a new rad for $180 for the dart, and a super six setup for the top for $200. (carb and intake) Later I'll get the matching marine cam, but for now, this will be a nice mild upgrade.
Yeah should be fine as far as power goes then, it's the same impedance. Fitting an 8 inch sub in a 6 inch hole will probably be a different story lol

The old amps were simply the smaller versions of this and I honestly don't know how the hell they handle .5 ohms. Thus the major cooling, lol. The car's an Impala and is running 0ga big 3 and an XS Power battery.. running full tilt and on the really loud notes it drops to about 12.5v or so at the lowest. Obviously not perfect, but still pretty good for a stock alt! Gets the job done.

Just fits my idea of an american car. But of course most american cars DO have pretty beefy stock alts so... And 12.5v at lowest is phenominal running .5 on a stock electrical. Musta done a good job with the wiring and connections, and used quality wiring. Hats off to you, sir. If I had the money I'd get rid of the dinky excuse of an alternator on my D17a1, I forgot what the output on it was but it was about the lowest I've seen an alternator on even the subcompact class. I bet a hand crank flashlight/usb generator would put out more. Even with the huge XS power battery I have in the back that I spent 449 bucks on I gotta watch the volume and keep back on the gains. I've gotten the sub warm clipping. Do you know the rating on your alt?
