Good, i'm tired of seeing that thing outside of an engine bay.
you can still buy leaded fuel?
Most petrol stations sell leaded additive for older cars like mine.
Most petrol stations sell leaded additive for older cars like mine.
Also if you have a car with mechanical fuel injection (or EFI in some cases), then it's just a good idea not to harden the valves, because the lead additive helps lubricating the injection pump. Or so I was told.
Speaking of leaded gas, my dad works at an airport and sometimes gets free 100ll avgas thats leaded as fuck. We mix it 50/50 with normal gas and put it in the lawnmower, snowblower, dirtbikes, and '72 chevy truck.
Replaced the speed sensor on my 00' sable, now it actually shifts into 2nd without climbing into the 4k rpm range. Replaced windshield wiper hose, drivers door weather stripping and a new air filter.
I hate having a boring car. This is literally the most exciting thing I've done to it.
Welcome to hell.
I can't even change the spark plugs on my car without removing the intake manifold.
Thanks toyota, for a FWD V6.

This is pretty much my engine bay, the first 3 are easy as balls to get to, the other 3 are behind the intake manifold. Took 2 people around 2-3 hours to get everything ripped out and replaced.
who thought this was a good idea.
The back three plugs are behind the engine, not the intake manifold. The intake manifold is on the top side of the heads, the plugs are on the bottom side with the exhaust manifolds.

Japan.
Bad pattern making is all it is. You used to be able to get stuff off acar without removing anything else. That was in the old times though...

Also sorry for large photo's I lost my Photoshop when I formatted my computer.
Fuck dat. Auxillary electric water pump on my S6 failed and the plastic 90 cracked. actively shot my fucking coolant out the back of my motor onto my transmission.
Pros: Transmission is hella clean.
Cons: My coolant is now cooling the pavement
that day sucked.
ANYWAYS
Spent most of the afternoon fucking with my welder. Getting some practice because its almost round 2. When I turbo'd my civic a year and a half ago or so, I built this.
[t]https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/326467_274951082534792_659286260_o.jpg[/t]
It's ugly as unholy fuck, but it has worked great so far for getting dem boosts cheap. Cost me $35 to build it, including electricity/welding wire/etc.
I think its about time for a new one. Learned a lot about pie cuts from that project, and how to cut them so they fit together nicely. Have learned a lot about welding since then too, so time to redo and try to make one thats a bit prettier. Heavier flange to bolt to the turbo too. That one is a little bit too thin for my liking.
The transmission on the GF's S13 started get worrying. It would grind at times if I shifted. The fluid leaks out of this reverse lamp switch on the tranny and it was probably low on fluid.
Went at a bay at work at cracked at it. Most of the time the Nissan master technician was doing the work because he had all the tools that you need in order to drain and re-fill the transmission. He's been fixing S13's for as long he can remember in his career and he made it look so easy.
Guy had a tool-chest that spanned the entire shop wall. He had every single imaginable Snap-On tool ever. He sealed the threads up with Permatex RTV and I filled up the tranny with my fluid pump. I felt so humiliated because it felt like I dropped all my spaghetti on the floor while this guy whipped out the job faster than I could find my missing wrenches.
I think he helped me out of pity but it taught me a lot of things; I don't know everything about Nissans and I still have a long way to go lol

It's a single downdraft carb, we did install a shitty aftermarket fuel pump. But thats different to an intection pump. Anywho these cars came with EFI anyway (was an option not standard equipment).
Had a bit of fun with the E38 this weekend. Spent all day sunday under and in it, then half the day today...

Dropped the oil pan, found one oil pump bolt sitting in the bottom freely. Also found a chunk of valve cover material completely jammed up into the oil pickup screen... Tensioned the chain, removed the chunk, secured the bolt, replaced the cork gasket with a metal+rubber one, sealed it up and gave it fresh oil.

Also changed the thermostat housing from the shitty OEM plastic one (leaking) to a cast aluminium version, refilled and bled the cooling system, replaced the serpentine belt and called it a day.
My back, she canna' take any more.
i have a bad back
makes working under cars painful :(
i would do it more if i could, you always make me jealous with what you do to your E38 Sobek
Coolant temp. sensor isnt working properly anymore on my car anymore
Not gonna risk a headgasket damage. Car is standing on my private area atm w/o a battery until i have fixed that part.

this little bugger is so hard to get off. Honestly it would be so easy to change the sensor itself but that doesnt work with fiats .. you gotta change the housing itself .. :/

I really do know what you mean mate. It very likely causes me as much pain and suffering as it might yourself! In my case, I usually wind up with a particular muscle group cramping after even the slightest bit of work, the end result of which feels like I'm being strangled from the inside for the rest of the night, it's unbearable. All stems from my back though.
Still... I've been seeing a chiropractor. It's working, I managed to get through that whole Sunday crammed under the car without feeling too bad at all. I'd hate to not be able to do this kind of stuff, I really enjoy learning how everything works. To lose that... not a nice thought.

Is it screwed into a plastic housing? If not, I'd consider getting a chisel and a hammer in there if there's room and just tapping the trailing edge to get it to start rotating. I'm guessing you've been trying with vise grips? Alternatively, unplug the sensor connector and find yourself a long socket that matches the sensor, might be able to get at it. There's always a way!

My tooter is alive!
Not as deep as I thought but it's a cute sound and I'm definitely replacing the original toot with this toot :v:

I thought about breaking the top part as well, it seems that its only glued on and replace it with a Opel (vauxhall) sensor.
But its a pain in the ass to get in there. It would be 1000x easier to get in there w/ pulling the heater hose off and the coolant hose.. but thats not something i can do ...

Don't worry, it's just as bad on these BMW V8's - they mount both coolant temp sensors way down the back of the motor, blocked by the fuel rail, pressure regulator, intake manifold and coolant transfer hoses. I managed to find a way to replace them anyway, but I can tell you my hands were shredded after that.
From that picture though, I would find a long socket that fits, and use any and all manner of extensions and knuckle-joints to get at it. Remember, all you need to do is break the hold its got from being on there so long. As soon as you can crack that, any old tool will get it out... You can doo eet!
Also, from the first picture you posted, it looks like the whole black housing (including sensor) can be removed easily enough... Could you just do that then get the sensor off once it's out of the car? Of course you'd have to refill and bleed the coolant, but maybe that would be a way around it.
What motor is this?

That sensor is molded into the plastic(wtfisitmadeof?), those "pegs" are just hold it in place. If you really want to try, take a chisel and knock the pegs off and take a wrench to it, or socket or what-have-you.
I've seen that before on another car I worked on, just be sure you use BLUE locktite, so it seals and doesn't deadlock it in place forever if you decide to try it.
Was worried the ugly blue primer was going to show through, but it did not. Luckily... Hit the main body of the engine bay with some hammered aluminum. Went on easy as hell with the oil undercoat in place. Then added my "L Purple" by 1Shot trim in, and a couple accents. Not done... but I may skip any airbrushing. I kind of like the pure silver look. Getting a hard 7 blade fan in, may make it purple as well, or a slime green. Not sure... But once the new intake is in, that red won't be there anymore, since the new one is blue.

Pictures blurry. hmmm...
Changed the fuel filter
Changed the oil and filter
Changed the air filter
removed slack from throttle cable and adjusted throttle idle position to stop lurching at 1100-1500 range
ordered a new Charcoal filter, what's the point in paying 2 day shipping if it's going to ship in one-two weeks? annoys the shit outta me.
Didnt do much today.
It rained hard last night, so i figured id check for leaks around the new hatch.
Saw water in my spare tire well, so i freaked a bit.
Sprayed water all around hatch, didnt leak.
Sprayed taillights, right one no leakage, left one just a small drip.
Slathered some silicone inside and outside, ill check for drips once its dry
Took care of the worst known rust on the celica the other day, but it was too dark to take any pictures. Also there is a lot of beach rocks.

Sanded and primed, good enough for the winter, though sadly the metal got a little pitted.
