how about a WRONG SECTION or a FAST THREADS rating
It'd be useless since the mods usually move it anyways
just bring the smilies back, like :frog: or :smug: or :V:
Replace it with 'useful'
That rating is the least used rating
How about we just add rating for every response to anything ever and stop replying to threads?
just bring the smilies back, like :frog: or :smug: or :V:
You have to use a lowercase v for it to work: :v:

garry pls do it optimize my browsing experience
Well if Garry is planning to add new ratings im 100% sure he will use one from the Silk Icons pack like he uses now with the current ratings.

I wouldn't mind the return of Bad Reading and Bad Spelling...
I wouldn't mind the return of Bad Reading and Bad Spelling...
i think it's fine that it all got grouped into "dumb" because that's really what it is

v:v:v
Smartness please.
Keeping in mind that ratings are supposed to cut useless snippet posts like "Yes I agree", I can understand not reintroducing Bad Spelling not worth pointing out since Facepunch has an overall high standard in this regard (and those that don't follow this standard tend to also lack quality in content, so a box will be rated anyway).
Bad Reading is more relevant, but often another post pointing out what part to reread or what the poster didn't read is required, so I can also understand why that rating is gone.
I agree with cutting Useful tho, it and Friendly could easily be merged to a rating for good posters in general that are helpful or nice people. Lots of people rate useful posts Informative instead of Useful anyway, because both is true and they use Useful much less frequently and think of rating Informative first.
Not sure whether Winner, Zing and Optimistic should stay either. Winner is supposed to be used for exceptional posts, but instead it's used for all-around good posts (hence it could be merged with the abovementioned Useful/Friendly to create a rating that's the simple opposite to Dumb).
Zing is supposed to be situationally used for witty comebacks, but instead it's used for light puns or anything electricity related. Much like Optimistic which is more often used for gay content than its intended purpose (outside of the HL3 thread anyway), it seems rather gimmicky and I don't think it would cut a lot of posts.
A "wtf" rating might cut down on the floods of shocked reaction images tho, I think that sounds rather useful.

Banning idiots that post them in the first place sounds like a pretty good solution to me already

Well if he puts spoiler tags I see no problem with nsfw/gore/shock images.

You can't spoiler tag images.
The comback of the smartness system would be epic. I always liked that you have to apply proper grammar, I also learned a lot of english with that system, it always showed me when I fucked up a sentence.
but i don't care to type the words good
and proper grammar adds nothing to a discussion. if you feel like it makes your posts look better or you smarter, have at it, but the rest of us shouldn't have to conform to that crap

Well, a post with proper grammar and spelling makes it easier to understand and read the post.
I'm pretty sure that everyone have heard the "A comma can make the difference between helping your uncle jack, off a horse. And helping your uncle jack off a horse."

there's a difference between improper grammar and ignoring unnecessary elements of sentences
btw Jack should be capitalized
p. sure there shouldn't be a comma there, too
"helping your uncle, jack, off a horse" is better methinks hmmmm
I like the sets that we have already.
They cover all the general branches of how I feel while reading most threads.
If anything the only reason we have the useful rating is for tool, it's otherwise basically an informative.
-snip, my idea sucked and now I know-
GUYS GUYS I HAVE AN IDEA
Let's have a "rrerr" rating.
No.
How about a very vague rating like Desk?
How about a very vague rating like Desk?
What the hell would that even mean?
I just vote for Bad Reading back. Fuck Bad Spelling it was annoying as hell and overall pretty useless. One letter would accidently get flopped with the adjacent one and fifteen people would rate Bad Spelling.
ratings r srs bzness.
I say that each thread would have an access to a rating that would be chosen from a varied pool of ratings. It would be chosen completely randomly and may be mostly irrelevant to the thread's subject. Every post in that specific thread could be rated with that rating. That way, you both get a new rating, and nothing of value it gained/lost.
I'd say FP needs another overhaul of the ratings. Keep the same system, but redo the icons and meanings. A WTF rating would be great, along with the old unfriendly rating. But ditch Optimistic and either Useful or Informative, they seem redundant to me.
If I had any artistic skill whatsoever I'd make a comic about this.
Panel 1: A guy holding a stack of paper rings Garry's doorbell
Panel 2: Garry opens the door and the guy says: "Good morning Garry. This is a petition from members of facepunch. All these people want bad reading and spelling ratings back."
Panel 3: Garry takes the paper and says "Thanks for bringing me this..."
Panel 4: As he slams the door in the guy's face he says: "...I needed something to light the fireplace with."
