He never said that.
What are you protecting him? Cut your own dick off too then join the club.
I'd just like to point out the OP is no longer participating in his own thread.
Didn't you say that appeals to emotion weren't valid arguments?
Turns out appeals to ridicule also aren't.
What are you even saying?
What are you protecting him? Cut your own dick off too then join the club.
Pointing out your errors doesn't mean he's defending him, you know.
He never said that.
-snip- My bad.
What are you protecting him? Cut your own dick off too then join the club.
What?
Actually, he did, in many more words. Did you actually READ the thread?
I was speaking about you when he said you 'disagree with 16 having sex'
Fixed the post in question.
I'd just like to point out the OP is no longer participating in his own thread.
How do you gauge that?
What are you even saying?
You're telling me I shouldn't try to use appeals to emotion (because of it's not valid as an argument), yet here you are using a form of arguing which technically counts as one.
What?

Oh. My mistake, mate.
Here our age of consent is 16. Which is fair for both sides i think.
18 year olds are not instantly pedo when they date a 17 year old. and 16 year olds feel good about gaining rights.
I'd just like to point out that Pedophilia is an attraction to pre-pubescent children. An adult (18+) being attracting to say, a 15 year old isn't pedophilia.
How do you gauge that?
By the amount of responses you've been giving to all of these great questions :v:
By the amount of responses you've been giving to all of these great questions :v:
Zzzzing!
...Because of the unnecessary stigma attached to sex. Not that hard to figure out.
Two words; teen pregnancy.
You see, we as civilized Americans see pedophilia as, immoral. Even if it's consensual it's still wrong, it could be traumatic for a thirteen year old to have sex with a thirty year old man, that's like one of your teachers coming onto you.
Ooo, look at this guy coming from a moral high ground.
First off, civilized is an arbitrary term and morals are subjective. You have no right to impose your morals on others. Anybody can think anything is moral or immoral, unless you are religious there is no standard for morality, and there shouldn't be.
If you're lowering consent, you also need to lower the drinking age, the driving age, the smoking age and voting age accordingly.
It's fine where it is now.
Two words; teen pregnancy.
Seven words: Pulling out, condoms, birth control, adoption, abortion.
+ Blowjobs, handjobs, footjobs, anal, etc.
I think you miss something in that list, namely having a functioning brain.
Too bad there's too many 14-year olds who appear to lack that at times.
Yeah man, next let's take away rights from people just because they're stupid.
Sounds like a totally sane idea, right?
You have no right to impose your morals on others.
This is patently untrue. We live in a democracy, you know?
If you want to have sex with 12 year olds, move to Niger, because by staying in society you consent to its laws.
If you're lowering consent, you also need to lower the drinking age, the driving age, the smoking age and voting age accordingly.

So you're suggesting that for some stupid reason the ratio has to stay the same?
Or are you just OCD about these kinds of things?
This is patently untrue. We live in a democracy, you know?

Laws aren't supposed to be about morals, they're supposed to be about protecting people from others. Not to protect people from themselves. Look at the drug war for example.

One of the philosophical foundations of our government is that everyone is equal.
That said, we make a distinction between adults and children.

It's still a bad argument because the brain doesn't finish developing until around 25 years old
So you're suggesting that for some stupid reason the ratio has to stay the same?

If one is rational enough to have sex and reproduce, they are certainly rational enough to do the others.
[editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
It's still a bad argument because the brain doesn't finish developing until around 25 years old
That's only for men, and in any case, more developed is better than less developed.
[editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
Laws aren't supposed to be about morals, they're supposed to be about protecting people from others. Not to protect people from themselves. Look at the drug war for example.
Laws enshrine the normative moral values of the population.
You quite clearly say they let 14-year olds control things capable of killing.
Are you aware of what STDs can do to people?
Yeah because consent laws totally stop 14 year olds from having sex
Seven words: Pulling out, condoms, birth control, adoption, abortion.
+ Blowjobs, handjobs, footjobs, anal, etc.
People already say this and we have teen pregnancy, what makes you think any amount of education will make it so one can lower the AoC and still have the same or less teen pregnancy.
Laws enshrine the normative moral values of the population.
Not really. Most laws are about protecting people from others, not limiting what people can do because of morals
Not to protect people from themselves.
I'm sorry, what? Children are extremely easily manipulated.
[editline]11th March 2011[/editline]
Yeah because consent laws totally stop 14 year olds from having sex
It stops them having sex with 30 year olds.
If one is rational enough to have sex and reproduce, they are certainly rational enough to do the others.
Note that these ages are already different. Thus destroying your argument
Yeah because consent laws totally stop 14 year olds from having sex
I wonder when people will start to realise that laws forbidding things like sex and drugs only make such things more desirable and lead to them being used improperly. Sex is seen as evil and children are not properly educated about it, which leads to teen pregnancy, STDS, and the like. Same story with drugs. People should do whatever they like as long as it doesn't harm others directly.
Not really. Most laws are about protecting people from others, not limiting what people can do because of morals
You are aware that "protecting people from others" is a moral view, right? And the minutia therein?
