Jackdaws are adorable, I feed a flock that lives on my roof through my window quite often. [sp]douchebag and backslick jackdaws[/sp] I have never heard of this. I have heard theories that they kept crows, gulls and jackdaws, well any bird that flies, in cages while sailing if they were lost to follow the birds to the closest land, but I do not believe it has ever been proven.
Those are beautiful, Can't wait for my Jackdaw to grow up and look stunning.
Did you get it from a pet store or something? Cause those kind of places make animals pissed at humans.
i bought two budgies recently when i asked the women at the shop to take them out of the cage, she slips on some gloves and spends two minutes trying to snatch them both as they fly around terrified, before pinning them against the floor of the cage and putting them in a box they still hide in the corner whenever they see an open palm now :(
Speaking of birds, does anyone know anything about this one? Found it outside since our cat had it in its mouth after hearing some squealing sounds, how should we look after it for the moment? It has a cut under its left wing but no heavy bleeding. [editline]23:44GMT[/editline] Its still alive, but not moving around the box much, but I hope it will survive throughout the night [editline]03:30GMT[/editline] Just checked on the bird and it seems to have calmed down a lot, its no longer breathing heavily and seems more relaxed than at first, it also has a nice comfy warm place to stay for the night and I will check with the vets to see what they think. [editline]8/7/13 01:25GMT[/editline] The Scottish SPCA came this morning and collected the bird, they will clean him up and release him back into the wild.
I personally think it's a bad idea to save birds from cats, because for one as a kid I tried to save bird from my cat and I fed it and kept it warm and it later died of a heart attack from the stress .. feels :( But mainly because it's a bad idea to teach your cat that it's bad to hunt animals and to teach birds cats won't try to kill them, if for example your cat ran anyway for whatever reason, you'd want it to know how to feed itself. Also if you interfere with nature a piano will fall on you or something, final destination is 100% accurate.
Yet somehow an indoor cat released into a forest can hunt mice just fine despite being indoor for 14 years and never having hunted its entire life.
Most cats learn hunting and sneaking when playing, if you play with your cat at home, it will hunt down toys, objects or person. Even if the cat has never left home.
Did you get it from a pet store or something? We do sell exotic birds that are hand fed/hand tamed and they're the sweetest little things ever. TL:DR: big chain stores have shitty pet birds 90% of the time.
Are his wings clipped, or does he just hangout in the garden without flying off?
Are his wings clipped, or does he just hangout in the garden without flying off?
I would never clip his wings, he's free to go wherever he wants, sometimes he flies away for a few hours and when I call him he flies to me.
I would never clip his wings, he's free to go wherever he wants, sometimes he flies away for a few hours and when I call him he flies to me.
That's really awesome, you could be a super villain
That's really awesome, you could be a super villain
I feel like one when I'm walking down the street with Riddle on my shoulder. My avatar fits :v: Weird since I have this avatar for months now.

I don't know about you but I think of Pokemon (even though I never watch it nor am I a fan of it.) Anyways, it's pretty cool that you managed to have a wild bird as your pet.

what a gorgeous bird!
I would never clip his wings, he's free to go wherever he wants, sometimes he flies away for a few hours and when I call him he flies to me.
you deserve a medal
What a beautiful creature! You're lucky! Very smart, too, that you're not clipping the poor things wings. That can screw up a bird, mentally, from what I've seen. Also, Riddle is a bloody amazing name. When someone asks "What's the birds name?" you must reply "Riddle, Tom Riddle."
you deserve a medal
Thanks but I really don't, anyone with a heart would have done the same thing.
What a beautiful creature! Can we have some more pictures? Perhaps a video
I'll make a video of the bird as soon as I have the time for it, this week for sure.
My dad used to work for Audubon some time ago and would help take care of birds that had no parents and stuff. He got to keep a Barn Owl and a Peregrine Falcon that were deemed to week to live on their own. Unfortunately that was some time before I was born and my dad stopped being that cool. Having a pet bird would be sweet, seemed like you really lucked out and got one that bonded with you, that must be badass having it land on your shoulder/arm
What do you feed him? Or does he just get something from outside?
As a bird owner (and one with a broken leg at the moment) I really enjoyed reading this thread.
What do you feed him? Or does he just get something from outside?
Most of the times cat food mixed with grains and vegetables, sometimes I catch some insects for him.
Is this proven or are you talking about Odin's birds?
Vikings used to keep land birds such as crows or ravens with them on their ships - the birds wouldn't fly far from the ship unless there was land nearby, so they used them to scout out places that could have fresh water.
Thats a nice picture.
That's cute but it might live 30 years. I can't imagine owning anything that long
That's cute but it might live 30 years. I can't imagine owning anything that long
I'd rather have a lifelong pet-friend rather than something that dies after only a few. Dat loss.
