And I'm sorry but its 6am and my mind can not comprehend that unnecessarily complicated article about what a Strawman is. I gather it is a stupid argument without means or evidence, and disregard for the prioritized statement.
Haha, yeah guys honestly who cares about evidence posed by the other side when you can just cover your ears and keep chanting your own viewpoint.

I agree with the opening post.

I disagree with your post. Therefore your argument is invalid. Rematch? You lose again.

A strawman is when you don't argue against the stated argument and instead come up with a much easier argument to go against and act like that is what was said. What you came up with was something that I'm not sure whether it was hand-picked from numerous other posts or a complete fabrication, regardless you came up with an easy target instead of an actual argument to what was posted.

Words of Warhol is ABOUT the FP member Warhol, and all the hilariously trolling and just angry things he says. Its a book. That I wrote. And continue to update continuously throughout the course of my membership on FP. Interesting hobby. I might send you a copy, sometime.
don't forget about people who want to be different and cool, and will start doing X instead of Y; even though everyone was hating X, 80 percent will change sides
sheep mentality + unwarranted self-importance at its finest
bring back rules, the big YOU GONNA GET BANNED yellow warning, get rid of the shitty ratings (HURR BOX HURR GAYBOW), bring back smartness and instaban
Although I disagree with a few of your points, ones that are trivial to the general topic, I definitely agree with bringing back the smartness system and written rules.
The smartness system reminds me of school systems: They weed out those who aren't willing to comply and provide what is needed for those who do want to. I really hope that this is brought back, as it would even provide help for those who it would effect if they are "willing to comply".
Flamewars are bound to happen. No matter what, there will be a bandwagon and on the other side will be someone butthurt by that bandwagon.
With that being said, I'd like to make a few points:
-Bandwagons generally don't change. The problem with flame wars is that people not bandwagoning seem to end up being the sole target of flaming, whether they are flaming or not.
-Bandwagons contain people that have a sense of superiority. People who try to convince them of something other than what they think ends up in a flame war.
What can you get from this? People are always going to end up in flamewars when there are opposing opinions. Best way to stop them is to now fuel the flame with more shit.
Another thing, Facepunch needs to learn to ignore trolls and shitposters. I've been on forums where the moderators have spelling worse than an autistic 12 yr. old, but they and the users know to not respond to trolls. When people shitpost here, others will respond with stupid comments themselves or say something along the lines of "get out" or just put :frog:. Ignoring shitposters is the third best way to get rid of them. Second being banning, and First being the smartness system.

so ironic im literally getting off to this irony
But if we take the soviet pig smugglers and make them sing karaoke to the flamers and haters, there wont be a problem, now would there.

Funny, because you are posting the exact kind of stuff I was saying that FP'ers should ignore.

Only if you were a dumbass.
It's just as easy to get banned now as back then.
If anything it is easier to get banned now because different moderators think differently and thus one moderator wouldn't ban you for *** but another moderator would.

I was banned for calling a Moderators friend a troll.
also, i feel obligated to mention that people enjoy fighting because of the e-peen boosts it gives
that, and you'll see bandwagons in flame wars start with ratings: i've always been able to turn the tide of a shitstorm by rating '(dis)agree' a certain post several times with my alt accounts
I was banned for calling a Moderators friend a troll.
I'm going to use this as an example.
Although it was unjust that you were banned for that reason, you were ignoring the ever convenient "report" button. Its there so that you can report someone without yelling TROLL and feeding the troll just by doing that.
Now that I think about it, many people keep asking for the smartness system when there is a system in place (though it is one that isn't as effective) for getting rid of bad posters.
I, quote, said "Dude seriously don't be a damn troll"
I understand that your intent wasn't bad and you weren't flaming or anything, but the report button is there for that reason. That doesn't justify your ban, but it would be best if people utilized the report button more often.

-Arguing About the Argument
This recent phenomena has emerged from the In The News Section, but has now spread to most General and Garry's Mod forums. What happens is that when a member begins losing an argument, or he feels that his evidence is weak, he will begin accusing his opponent of some "infraction" or another. JDK and Prismatex are prime suspects of this in the In The News forum. "That's an ad-hominem statement." "Nice strawman argument, moron." "You're ignoring the evidence I presented!" Few, if any, people care about these "debate guidelines" save the culprit and possibly the victim (The opposing debater). As I said before, this shatigory is evident throughout the In The News forum and is usually used by well educated and experienced members.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy
"In logic and rhetoric, a fallacy is a misconception resulting from incorrect reasoning in argumentation. By accident or design, fallacies may exploit emotional triggers in the listener or interlocutor (e.g. appeal to emotion), or take advantage of social relationships between people (e.g. argument from authority). Fallacious arguments are often structured using rhetorical patterns that obscure the logical argument, making fallacies more difficult to diagnose. Also, the components of the fallacy may be spread out over separate arguments."
if nobody cared about these debate guidelines, they'd devolve in to nothing but retarded, illogical shit-slinging. and i like to believe that while facepunch does not have a high standard for debate, it's still not so low that we might as well do away with logic.
way to go with a strawman
if you wanna have a meaningful and polite argument, don't post trash like that
it's not a strawman
assuming that's an actual quote, he isn't doing anything wrong. even if it's not a real quote it still isn't a strawman, since the criteria for something being a strawman include actively arguing against a warped/distorted/misconstrued version of the opposing parties argument, often done unintentionally but some people try and do it on purpose because they can't really tackle the argument that's been presented, and want to draw attention away from it. all he has done here is post a quote, real or not.
i'd also like to take this time to point out that throwing a stray insult at a person is not an ad hominem- as you have to be presenting this insult as your reasoning for why they're wrong for it to count.

Hey so wow I just read that thread in news section and guess what? You used both "crybaby" and "drop flame" disguised as sarcasm. That makes you a hypocrite.
I bet you enjoyed every moment of its categorization.
ITT OP is expecting mature arguments on Facepunch.
ITT OP is expecting mature arguments on Facepunch.
As far fetched as it is it would be nice to have them.
Garry's whole method of getting rid of smartness was people should learn to control them selves rather than being controled.
It would clear up the forums a lot more if he did bring in the old smartness and rules again. But it may piss off a lot of people since we have got comfortable with how things have become.
I don't realy have an opininon at the moment but I do understand what you're saying and I do agree with some of the things.
Honestly, I find these terrible arguments, (My own included, at times) quite amusing, and I enjoy them.
It doesn't do a body good to get worked up about the internet.

There are 12 year olds on every forum or the people who think they're either: Top shit, smart or everyone else is wrong and they're right.
Annoying, yes, but it'll never change.
