I have one of the worst migraines you can have and also one of the rarest. It starts with the optical thing you've described, they call it the 'Aura'. Basically a blind spot in your sight. Then, a small headache and hypersensitivity for light. From here I have 30 minutes to take a shit-ton of aspirine/ibuprofen and lie down, because I'll lose control over the left or right part of my body (depends which in which eye the aura is) and lose control over my speech. After about an hour in, the real headache kicks in (imagine a metal rod being jammed into your brain and pushed up and down). People who haven't had migraines can't imagine the pain, really. This usually lasts for 2 days. Because it was so rare, the doctors in the hospital immediately put me through brain scans during my first migraine. No tumors were found, though. (I think they just wanted to check brain activity and such, which is really cool!) I've did some research after my first two migraines, and the main cause for them are stress triggers. I've been really stressed out in the time period where my migraines were the most frequent, and over the past months they've been quite rare. All you can do against a migraine is take aspirins or ibuprofen and lie down in a dark room and try to sleep. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] I hope this helped, and I really hope this will just pass on for you. It's a terrible thing to have, and it's nothing you'd wish anyone, not even your worst enemy.
I also get migraines like this. I get the loss of a blind spot, then after 20 minutes a hugeeeeeeee migraine comes. However it only lasts for up to an hour, I don't lose control of my body, that sounds horrible.

It could be a spine imbalance, if you consult a podiatrist you may be able to get orthodics inserted in your shoes so that you walk in a more even way that doesn't give you headaches that may be spread through the spine. This happened to my friend and my mum, the orthodics fixed it completely.

Don't rely on facepunch for your medical needs, we can be helpful, but only your doctor can really help you. Also, don't try to look up symptoms and medical conditions by yourself, you can go online thinking you have one thing wrong and end up thinking you could be dying. Don't settle for just some medicine and a kick out the door from your doctor, press the issue and get the necessary examinations done until they can find out what's causing your headaches. They serve YOU, you are their paycheck. If you're not happy, change doctors. It took me 5 months with ridiculous chest and abdomen pains and plenty of doctor visits to finally get them to find i had ulcers in my gut. Make your doctor refer you to a specialist, fuck him. Your head aches could be attributed to a number of things from dehydration, poor diet, to sinus infections. My father had debilitating migraines for an entire year and couldn't figure out why until the doc told him he had sinus issues. Press the issue with your doc, don't feel like you're helpless, you'll get to the bottom of it.

Just a few weeks ago i just got finished fitting off one. But there is a problem, Just some specialist are expensive and we dont have much money at the moment..
Are you absolutely sure they're migraines? They could be your sinuses. Do you have allergies? Shit sucks, I have those right now, right above my eyes. [editline]6th March 2011[/editline] Also is is becoming spring where you live right now?

Yes doctor visits and what not are horribly expensive, that's why you can't have your doc lolly gagging around the issue. Try taking some Omega-3 everyday or some kind of multi-vitamin. Could be caused by some dietary deficiencies. but really look into the sinus part of it all, you'd be surprised how adversely it can effect you.
Well it could very well be something allergy relating, in any case, I would recommend taking some herbal medicines, echinacea, green tea, local honey. It could all help in boosting your immune system.
Speak to a dedicated Neurologist like I did when I started getting Migraines?
I would recommend taking some herbal medicines, echinacea, green tea, local honey
Big agree on the echinacea, i take it everyday.

I get these about once a week. Taking a nap usually helps, but I can say that no medicine has ever worked on them. Not sure what to do about it.
drink more water, take it easy, and sleep. go to a doctor.

I used to have a migraine like that (minus the partial paralysis) every day for the course of 3 months. I still remember the most painful migraine of them all. It was on the 15th of November, 2007. I'll never forget that day. It was all during autumn. As soon as autumn ended and turned into winter, my migraines were a lot less common. Although, I found out that working out is also a great way to reduce the frequency of migraines. Just another reason to get into shape. You might want to try to work out a little - 3 times a week or so. Try to include in each workout both a little running and a little pumping (mostly pumping. I first found out about this trick when I was doing pushups and pullups while still having a migraine - and the migraine simply disappeared).
Another shitty thing about getting these migraines is it is so hard to go to school with them.. It is like torture, all the loud kids, and bright lights.. and if i miss 10 days in a semester I get credit denial..
I used to get terrible headaches every day at about 1PM for about 3 hours for some reason. Went on for about 2 months and i couldn't figure out what was causing them. I thought it was my eyes, migranes and even a tumour at one point. Turned out to be my wisdom teeth coming through, pushing on the other teeth, the pain had spread right up to my head. I just waited it out and now they're gone. It was weird because i wasn't sure whether it was a headache spreading to my teeth, or a toothache spreading to my head.
here's some actual advice i used to have headaches all the time, i really had no idea what would cause it, i drank heaps, yet i get headaches all day every day. turns out, for every 2-3 centimetres your head slouches foreward, the strain on yout neck doubles. Solution: work on your posture. i suffered a lot of posture-related crap (and i'm sure if i hadn't made any effort, the problems would have multiplied as i aged). the thing is,when the muscle that attaches your skull to your brain hurts. it feels a lot like a bad headache. many illness and pain can have chiropractic cures, you should straighten your back, and look for posture-improving yoga/stretches, helped me and certainly could help you.
I get migraines when I have...hormonal problems. Anyway, what helps me is to take a really warm bath in the dark. TRY IT, OP. IT'S RELAXING AND EROTIC.
Go to the hospital. It can be anything. Let's hope it's not a tumor.
my mums been getting them for 40+ years now, sucks man
more advice this could also be attributed to blood pressure, get a reading from your doctor. if you have blood pressure problems , you could have too much or not enough salt in your diet, i used to have awful blood pressure problems, i had to stand up really slowly or risked passing out, the biggest cure: cardiovasular excercise (in my case, cycling).
Isn't there some sort of THC spray available to you like what they are starting to sell in the UK? Since you can't get medical marijuana it could be a temporary solution until you find what's causing it atleast. That, or find a dealer, cannabis really has shown to cure headaches/migraines in many cases and it could improve your quality of life atleast temporally. Good luck i hope you find what's wrong, i could imagine how horrible it would be.
I've never experienced a migraine. That I am extremely grateful for.
Should ask your doctor about Pizotifen, I'm on them at the moment and have been for 4 years after a childhood accident left me with recurring migraines almost daily. They stopped my migraines after a week or so of being on the drug. these are good, only side effects for most people is weight gain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pizotifen
Pretend you are holding a salt shaker in your hand and then take it as if you were pouring salt in your mouth and shake it back and forth.
Goddamn it you made me look like I was sucking an invisible dick in front of everyone.
Go see a medical professional, don't ask an internet forum.
This. I don't think there's much docters here.
