Hurrrrrr
Judging by the current progress made on this particular thread it would seem the contrary to your response is true, or perhaps the polar opposite. And I would also like to note this thread makes for a good example considering its length and the amount of effort that seems to have gone into it.
We started on a new map; we've only been doing this for about a day or so.
I understand this, however, I would like to offer you a list of other hobbies that are very similar to this that do not result in frivolous effort towards a fruitless cause.
RTS games, specifically those that feature multiplayer, require a large investment of time in one go, rather than a large investment of time spanned out over a long period of time. This is something for us to do in 10-15 minutes when we're bored. Also, RTS games do not have quite the same appeal as a pixel civ- while the main appeal in both is creation (except for those who think it's a PW), you have much more freedom with your creation in a pixel civ, which results in a diverse collection of civilizations, rather than a bunch of civilizations that have the same theme.
Ah well, I've found through much experience that the best way to prove you have an ability is to demonstrate it to your disbelieving audience. Ask me a question only a true programmer would know and I will answer it. (In C++, did you know the new and delete keywords actually use Malloc() and Free behind the scenes?)
There are more programming languages than C++.
You're summary seems a bit less concise than I would be satisfied with, mainly in its accuracy, I feel you may wish to change it after reading my response. Consider the fact that, by this thread's lifetime you've not gained any particular skills that you had not already developed, didn't really enjoy yourself, and haven't created anything worth public viewing.
That must be pretty embarrassing. Someone with such a large vocabulary making such a simple mistake. Spelling errors aside, I honestly don't think you understand this at all. This is arguably more constructive than playing an RTS, because we're not only being much more creative, but we're also developing a skill for pixel art as we do it. And in the end, we have a finished product (hopefully not a gigantic crater) which is much more fulfilling than a screen that says "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU WIN." I honestly don't know how you could think that we haven't developed any skills from this; most of us create sprites on the go as we do this, and practicing a skill is an effective method of getting better at it.
There are more programming languages than C++.
I would have to request the actual relevance of this response. Please point out where I stated that C++ was the only programming language. I believe you misinterpreted the point of my response, he asked to know if I knew how to program, I was proving that I could, using C++ as an example.
That must be pretty embarrassing. Someone with such a large vocabulary making such a simple mistake.
I thank you for the compliment and let you know that I feel no shame or embarrassment in being human.
I have to argue your position on the rewards of winning an RTS game. Do you honestly believe players play the game for that "You win" screen? I sincerely hope you do not, because that is very far from the truth. For one, you get the feeling of accomplishment that you where able to develope an effective strategy that bested the opponents' and, in the case of team play, where able to cooperate with your teammates effectively. On a side note, I believe you made a logic error in your first prepositional sentence, you said 'mistakes' in its plural form where you only pointed out one mistake making it non-plural.
I honestly don't know how you could think that we haven't developed any skills from this; most of us create sprites on the go as we do this, and practicing a skill is an effective method of getting better at it.
Why create sprites for something so silly when you could be using them for so much more? I don't believe anyone is actually getting enjoyment out of this round-about game that usually goes no where. You might say so for the sake of your side of the argument, but if you look at the threads and threads before it you'll see I'm right in that they go no where.
First of all, I'm going to ask you that you please fuck off with trying to make yourself sound intelligent. You're just elongating your sentences by including large words where they aren't necessary. Stop that, that just annoys people- it's one of the reasons people often claim Wikipedia is unreliable. I only addressed the parts of your post that I felt needed to be addressed- I ignored anything that was more or less "You people are dumb, I am smart, do something else because I am a narrow minded fuckwit."
I would have to request the actual relevance of this response. Please point out where I stated that C++ was the only programming language. I was under the impression you were asking him a C++ related-question to confirm he was a programmer.
I have to argue your position on the rewards of winning an RTS game. By "finished product" I was not referring to any form of fulfillment, but some sort of product you could show to somebody. You could go up to a friend and say "Hello, I bested this person in [RTS]" and perhaps even show them a screenshot of the "YOU WIN" screen, but they would be much less interested if you showed them a picture of a finished Pixel Civ that you contributed to, even if they aren't very interested in either.
On a side note, I believe you made a logic error in your first prepositional sentence, you said 'mistakes' in its plural form where you only pointed out one mistake making it non-plural.
That's not a logic mistake, that's a spelling mistake. And frankly, I don't give a rats ass about my spelling mistakes; if there even is one- I never bothered to check, as it seems pointless to do so. The only reason I pointed out your spelling mistake was to make fun of you for being so verbose when it's really unnecessary.
Wow, intelligent response. Impressive, i take back the 7 year old comment as you can spell and reply with valid points in a good structure. However, I really advise that you get out of here if you hate this, and get out of the MSPaint section. Really now, seeing as i don't want to write out another response, i'll just say, if you don't like what we're doing, get the fuck out. It's the MSPaint section, you like it or you don't. It's like going to a classical concert and getting angry because they're not playing heavy metal. Also, declare.
Firstly, I'd like to point out the interesting change in overtone in comparing this post from your last. You seem a lot more frustrated than before and that may be from your inability to properly combat my response, which is understandable. You seem much more hostile now than before, or at least you show it more now than before.
First of all, I'm going to ask you that you please fuck off with trying to make yourself sound intelligent. Wiki it.
That's not a logic mistake, that's a spelling mistake. You did not spell anything incorrectly, and you used the plural word correctly in the sentence. The flaw resides in your thinking when you wrote that sentence compared to your other sentences thus making it a logic error. I'd like to mention that if you do not give a "rat's ass" about your own spelling errors, than I'd advise you to not give a "rat's ass" about others by pointing theirs out and not your own. Also if you do not like the verbosity of my responses than I can offer you no advice other than to not read them or reply to them. I will not delve into why my verbosity may bother you, it is simply how I choose to write.
[...]It's like going to a classical concert and getting angry because they're not playing heavy metal.[...]
I'd say its more like going to a classical concert and complaining its a burden on the state economy because the concert only fills about 10% of its seats.
Stop interrupting our game and leave if you're not interested in participating in it. [editline]03:38PM[/editline] Declare after ProWaffle.

I can't believe he's accusing us of flaming. Why hasn't this dipshit been banned yet? Honestly, you randomly fucking show up here in this thread and begin bitching at us for "wasting our time" while in the process, effectively increasing the amount of wasted time by both us and you by a large amount. And then you have the audacity to accuse us of flaming while we do it. Seriously, get the fuck out if you don't like it.
There ya go.

I thought you left? And just because i won't waste time writing a long response, i can't combat it? Wow. It's our hobby, get out if you don't want to contribute anything. I do however respect your ability to debate properly. Mabye do that?
All of you, stop arguing, and Alex, if you're not interested in participating, please leave.
Or not. Are the mods fucking sleeping or something, what the fuck? It's obvious this dickhead is a troll, and it's a marvel he hasn't been banned yet. He isn't debating properly either, he's using a shitload of logical fallacies.
Nevermind...
"Cry moar baby." Yeah, that was shit, but the rest was fine. Also: Left to right. [ANIMATORS] One: Continues work on the bridge.
