And the filesize between JPEG and PNG can range from a difference between 1kb to several megabytes (both ways).
In photos you should NEVER EVER use PNG, it's a fucking waste and stupid.

It looks so much fucking better in photos it's not even funny. I'll take whatever insignificant size difference it is any day to shitty artifacts.
I never use JPG, ever. I can't stand the compression artifacts.
I just always use PNG because it always gives you the original quality
i use gimp and i save as jpg but set the quality up to 100
am i losin anything there and still compressing it?

Yes, I believe so. Save as PNG instead, you have nothing to lose.
JPG stands for "Joint Photography Experts". They are acknowledging that it's specifically made for photography.
