Your base melee or ranged accuracy is 15 + ((dex + (str-dex) * str_weight / 20) / 2) + random2(fighting) + random2(weapon or unarmed skill) + 2 if unarmed + another 2 if you are unarmed and have claws.
Then add the weapon's base accuracy, enchantment, and slaying. If you have vertigo, subtract 5. If you have extra eyeballs, add 2*(Eyeballs mutation level)+1. If you are starving subtract 3. Subtract 1d(aevp) and 1d(asp). Then roll 1d(result of all the previous stuff).
If wearing an amulet of inaccuracy or confused, subtract 5 (these stack). If attacking an invisible target without see invisible, subtract 6. If the defender is backlit, add 2+random2(8). If the defender is in an umbra and you are not with Yred, subtract 2+random2(4). This is your final accuracy. Probably.
When you attack, crawl generates a number from 0 to acc-1, if this number exceeds enemy EV, you hit!

Acidic monster with a highly accurate ranged attack that can degrade your armour. Attacking it in melee can degrade your weapons, just like a jelly. Has better than average speed.
Resist corrosion won't save equipment that's not immune, but it will save your life. Tends to be a hassle in any situation, especially if more than one. Worth 2420 exp for a reason!

An incredibly fast (speed 25) construct that can hide in empty space. Does not occur naturally outside of the Abyss, but can be summoned by the player or Sojobo. Found in a couple of vaults, the cloud mage wizlab, or accompanying spriggan air mages.

ammo acquirement
Gives you ammo. The type of ammo you get is weighted by your ranged weapon skills (if throwing, tomahawks/javelins). Gives 5 times the size of a typical stack, almost guaranteed to have an ego.

Damage: stones 2, sling bullets 4(only when used in a sling, don't throw), tomahawks 6, javelins 10, large rocks 20. Other ammo has no base damage.
amnesia
This scroll/invocation allows the player to dememorise one spell of their choosing. See also spell levels. Sif ability is 5 MP, 8-~13 piety. You can also dememorise a spell by selecting it in a spellbook and choosing to 'F'orget it (destroying the spellbook in the process).
amphibious
Monsters with this flag can move through (deep) water and most of them are faster than normal while doing so.
amulet of dismissal
10% chance to teleport away monsters that hurt you. Briefly reduces your EV, accuracy and spell success when you equip it.
If you were hit by every one of the lernaean hydra's heads in one turn; there's a compound 94.2% chance of it teleporting. Statistics are fun.
Note that both summons and the Flay status persist when the monster that caused them is dismissed as it hasn't actually been killed.
amulet of faith
Piety increases one quarter faster. Yes, this means you get more gifts. Ru offers sacrifices more quickly; Xom has more dynamic piety and acts more often; no effect with Gozag. Removing the amulet reduces your piety by 1/3.

amulet of harm
Increases damage done by the wearer by 30% and to the wearer by 20%. Applied after AC. It applies to damage from melee, ranged, spells, abilities, evocations, clouds, falling down stairs, etc. Drains you on removal.

-5 To hit in melee and range (for the person wearing it). This will affect anything (spells, breath, you name it) that has a chance to miss. The only always-bad normal amulet. Always comes cursed in 0.15.
amulet of magic regeneration
Increases mp regen by as much as adding 40 max mp would, ie 1 extra mp every 5 turns. Has a warm-up time so you can't swap to it in a pinch.
amulet of mana regeneration
An amulet that increases your mana regen rate by the same amount as adding 40 to max mp would, with a warmup period after you wear it. Added in 0.18.
amulet of rage
Allows you to go berserk, and doesn't extend the duration on kills anymore. Chance of success depends on evocations.
amulet of reflection
The amulet of reflection gives you a variable amount of SH and the reflection status, allowing you to reflect projectiles shot at you as if you had a shield of reflection, whether or not you do. Enchantment is randomly from +2 to +6, so pick up additional amulets if yours isn't +6.
amulet of regeneration
Regenerate 0.4 HP per turn. Stacks with other sources of regeneration, and doesn't cause hunger. In 0.18+, doesn't activate until you reach full health.

My proposition is that the Human Player-race gets an ability, timed like a “Breath” weapon, allowing them to set exactly 1 trap on an adjacent square.
A. Vehumet gifts ammo, type determined by some means (player specified/whatever launcher was last used/etc.) B. Vehumet protects ammo from mulching.
Sticky Flame with range one and no Vehumet extension sucks [...] Solution? Use Poison/Mephitic Cloud and Ignite Poison, and you'll see what I mean.

Successfully apported items will move (pow * 2/5) squares towards you, or a minimum of 1 square. Items won't end up in deep water or lava (they'll stop early if you don't have enough power to get them across).
Apporting the Orb starts the orbrun and have 1/3 chance to fail.

AC reduces incoming damage from most sources by 1d(AC+1)-1. This occurs before resistances. This can reduce it to 0. You might still get poisoned, banished etc. though. Some electric attacks (such as shock, lightning bolt, electric eel blasts) only check half of your AC.
Torment, smite, hellfire, electrocution, and a handful of other abilities/effects ignore AC. The only player-castable damage spells that ignore AC are freeze, refrigeration, sticky flame, static discharge, pain, vampiric draining, Olgreb's Toxic Radiance, ignite poison, and agony. Note that all of these spells also ignore EV.

armour acquirement
Picks an armour type (includes shield) that you can currently wear. If it picks body armour, has a low (about 20%) to make random dragon armour, else makes a body armour type randomly weighted by your skills (25% chance of CPA instead of plate). Centaurs and nagas have a 50% chance to get a barding if they haven't seen one, or 25% if they have.
If it picks a brand you've seen, tries a few times to reroll it. If it made something plain it'll make a plain armour filling an empty slot.

Artefacts in Crawl come in two flavors. Randarts are a normal equippable item with zero or more random special properties, like a +3 scale mail with electricity resistance. Unrandarts are like randarts, but pre-identified and with a themed set of properties (sometimes completely unique ones), like the sword of Zonguldrok.
All artefacts are equippable items with special unidentified descriptions and (except for jewellery) can be identified by wearing. They are immutable except for curse status. See also ego. Unless they are books.

A class that starts with three wands (enslave, flame, random effects (all with 15 charges)), a +0 short sword, light armour and some evocations/fighting/dodging skill.

God of divinations, knowledge, and curses. Likes it when you wear cursed gear while exploring the world. Grants passive monster/item detection, item identification (see [2]), and passive mapping. 1*: Scrying, 2*: ash skill boost 3*: SInv 4*: Clarity 5*: transfer knowledge
At 0* shows the curse status of all items, then later fully identifies stuff that uses the same slots you have cursed; body armour at 1*, everything else at 2*.
Ashenzari followers gain an ability which consumes a scroll of remove curse to curse an item.

Ash boosts some of your skills for each level of bondage. The boosts come in three sizes (low, medium, high: see [2]) and also depend on your skill level and piety. Skills cannot increase past level 27.
Low: staves+evocations (enhancer staff), shield, dodging+stealth (ER < 6 armour), dodging+armour (ER 6-11 armour), all magic+evoc (jewellery). Medium: weapon, evoc (rod, staff of energy), spellcasting (other staves), armour (ER >= 12 armour). Weapon bonus increased if 2h, armour and jewellery bonuses increased if fully bound.

autopickup
Autopickup is a function which allows you to automatically pick up items when you pass over them. Items which will be picked up automatically have green boxes around them in tiles.
By default, only food you can eat, unidentified and useful potions, jewellery, wands, books and scrolls, used ammunition and gold will be picked up. This list can be changed (see [3] and [4]).
Which items are automatically picked up is defined in settings/autopickup_exceptions.txt, or by pressing 'o' to edit options on the server. The format for adding new rules is "autopickup_exceptions = <[item type/name fragment]" for items to be included and "ae = [item type/name fragment]" for items to be excluded from autopickup.
Autopickup rules can use item type ('weapon', 'armour', etc.) or name fragments (such as 'dagger', 'scroll' etc). One use for this is automatically picking up items that are glowing, runed etc.
From lowest-priority to highest: autopickup (by symbol) option < autopickup_exceptions option < CLua add_autopickup_func < backslash menu < ctrl-a

The more something stands out, the more likely you are to retain it and use it in later statistical arguments. For instance, you won't keep track of the number of times you cast magic dart, just recall the times you miscast 3 times in a row.
