One of the few bands where I can't just listen to one song, I have to listen to the whole album.
They're more of the Mogwai side of post-rock, which isn't a bad thing GY!BE are much more cinematic and grandiose while at the same time not being cinematic and grandiose at all
noooo not mogwai noooooo. far more EITS
noooo not mogwai noooooo. far more EITS
Hm. I always thought One Step More and You Die by Mono and Come on Die Young by Mogwai were pretty much identical (even in titles :v:), can't really judge it off that though I guess. EITS were always pretty boring to me not much of a fan of third wave post rock
EITS were always pretty boring to me not much of a fan of third wave post rock
The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place really hits the spot for me, but nothing else in their discography appeals too much to me. I got into post-rock through GIAA and EITS though so its safe to say I have a soft spot for third wave stuff. I still much prefer GY!BE vein stuff. Also, I would say Mono is somewhere between EITS and Yndi Halda.
that album sucks dick those who tell the truth will live forever is their best album
Whats so different about that one? Is it still just 3 guitars + drums like all of their other stuff? Or is it different? Its all pretty uniform to me anyways, I just think The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is their best.
Two bands were really instrumental in making me a musician, GY!BE and Sonic Youth. The eschewing of song structure by Godspeed and the atypical playing style of SY was like the perfect storm for me. I'd really like to make a post rock band, and emulate the whole audio-visual experience with some of the photos I've taken with my old kodak folding camera, but alas, most people I know are more into punk or classic rock. That being said, I actually find I prefer Thee Silver Mt Zion. Efrim Menuck is one of the best songwriters I know, his lyrics are so profound and poignant, the only person on par with him in my opinion is Patrick Stickles. Anyone here in the Boston area want to start a post rock band :3?

All post rock ftw.

The first album is so much more raw and intense, and reading the backstory about it you can totally see why [editline]28th October 2011[/editline]
Two bands were really instrumental in making me a musician, GY!BE and Sonic Youth. My favorite post rock band is Moonlit Sailor.
I like a Silver Mt. Zion more, same guys (almost)

Saw them live twice this year, once for free (and once so I could be high during the concert), much preferred them sober. It's so odd how, after these apocalyptic, depressing, revolutionary songs, Efrim makes jokes with the crowd. He's a wicked funny guy. EDIT: Didn't see the almost.
ASMZ must be awesome live. I have yet to check out Efrim's solo stuff.
I cannot wait for their new material, even if it's just a studio version of Albanian and Gamelan in an EP like Slow Riot. I have all their records except for Yanqui U.X.O. I might just order it off Constellation, but dat shipping price...
If I lived in Boston I would say hell yes.
Move here! It's lovely!
Initially it was EITS that drew me into the post rock scene. I stumbled upon a flash website with their music in background. Got the source from stumble-upon discussion page. The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place was instant like for me. Found GIAA in similar veins. Gradually my liking got a bit more intricate. I listened more and more to Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever. It was a eargasmic moment, esp. Yasmin the Light. Found about GY!BE from atpr. Didn't like them at first listen but it surely did grow on me exponentially the more I listened'em again and again. Mono is a recent find, disliked their signature noise but now with some good set of earphones (RE272) I am loving their music so much, it's like they have performed very soulfully in every piece of their's. The layered melodies create a complex yet quite moving atmosphere. It's like pulling out your soul in a completely different dimension full of enigmatic experiences.
Might as well revive the post rock thread at this point.
Godspeed You! Black Emperor was the band that got me into post rock. And I'm happy for that. Moya is the perfect winter song. First time I heard it I was alone in the evening, thick, thick snow was falling, I had candles lit on my desk and I was digipainting.
These wearepostrock videos on youtube of their live performances are amazing. Motivating me to do an audi-visual project with some of the film slides I've taken this year.
F#A#∞ is one of my favorite albums of all time, so good
