half-speedpaint off a reference, I want to work more on realistic faces so I figured I'd try and mentally trace a photo quick, then compare to see what I did terribly wrong, adjust, repeat. Trial/error learning to look for proportions, probably not the best method in the least but it's fun and still provides shading practice. about 20 minutes to get things where I liked I also learned I CANNOT do ears, so I just traced the bugger on for sake of not being blank
I like what you did with the lips/teeth, looks real good
That's pretty cool
this is the tablet im am using right now(also my first) do you think i should have choose a bamboo instead of this
It's a perfect starter tablet, in fact I'm sure you could produce equal work to anyone with a wacom. I own a cintiq, intuos3 and a bamboo pen&touch and I seriously considered one of those very affordable monoprice tablets. The reviews for all of the Monoprice tablets are very very positive, most are coming from owners of Wacoms as well. I'd rather have a large 10x6 Monoprice tablet at $45 bucks than an expensive and smaller bamboo if I was just starting out, or was strapped for cash. Also monoprice is very reputable. I've never been disappointed with a purchase.
i painted this in history class today on my smartphone (what a dreadfully painful experience)
awfully proud of that one aren't you.
yes
My room and junk:
I quite like the simplicity of this. What stroke did you use on the lines? Was it in Illustrator? They've got a certain feel to them that makes them look hand drawn, was it a tablet?
Just finished this up. Only took a decade to render. [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/Me7NKs.jpg[/t]

It looks good but shouldn't have taken more than a few minutes to render. You need to learn where to use certain shaders (reflective, etc) and where they are unnecessary. It looks like that dome is reflective, for example. You only really need a depth value of 2 at the most: what is the depth value set to currently on that reflection? hi im a locust
[t]http://i.imgur.com/aUtS0.png[/t] Tried my hand at speed painting for the first time that I can recall (I've probably tried it a few times before, knowing me, just unsuccessfully) since it was suggested I should so that I could get a hang of starting out "looking right". Took about 30-40 minutes.
Portrait of a good friend of mine :)
She almost looks like a princess. I really like the glow you did around the brighter portions.
rough rough rough drive poster mock up, working on the painting the painting is very messy and since i intend to make this an A0 poster i need to find a way to clean it up, stylise it but somehow keep it realistic
ref pic?

And you know... 5760x2100 is no small picture.
ref pic?
[thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17721670/DRAWINGS/Screenshot-2012-01-11_23.15.14.jpg[/thumb] messed around with the curves when i put it in the poster sillhouette is traced because i couldnt be arsed with that i need to finish this and get it in my portfolio by the 13th as i said the painting is still a WIP, only the jacket is "done" and even then the whole thing is subject to a complete change of style
oh.
I quite like the simplicity of this. What stroke did you use on the lines? Was it in Illustrator? It looked better in person, I never got a chance to do a good scan because someone bought it very shortly after I made it.
oh.
what
i think it means disappointment that you traced it
it was literally only the sillhouette please forgive me!!!!
i think for the purposes of designing a poster to a deadline there's nothing wrong with tracing a reference photo... it's just a poster. it's a piece of design first and foremost, not a piece of art if you were hired by paramount or someone to do a poster for their film they're not gonna tell you to fuck off if the work you give them is a trace from a still from the film or whatever
im not a tracer normally, i just want to get this done. and, again, it was only the sillhouette
Just cause I haven't made anything in ages, and been lazy, forced myself to do something today. I feel like it's missing something though.
So I've started praticing drawing with my awesome writing teacher that draws. Here's a W.I.P
So yeah, and thoughts on it? So far so good for practice? Anything I should keep an eye on?
if you're serious about actually drawing stuff more, I'm gonna say do long, light, inaccurate strokes with the pencil instead of short dark scribbly ones. it's much easier to make a lightly penciled rough shape and detail things on top of that, instead of trying to make all the detail in one solid go

How do I do, "light, inaccurate strokes"? I'll listen to all the advice you can give.
