Oh god this pales compared to some of the amazing stuff in this thread.
Well basically i saw this decal on one of my old Warhammer models and decided to draw it out, But it's missing something, and i wanted some advice on how to improve it. I plan on using it as a decal or something IDK i just want to know how to improve past flat colors (Please ignore the massive amount of empty space, i left that there intentionally for improvement purposes.)

I'm fairly new to shading and colouring on a computer, so I traced this and had a go at colouring it in GIMP. Let me know what you think and how I can improve.
Also sorry if it's a bit large lol

what is goin on
I'm serious, i can only do flat color and really want some advice on how to improve.
ok well like, just using that example, first of all u should probably have googled reference pictures of skulls. you need an idea of what things look like in real life before putting your own stylistic spin on them. first of all, it really depends on what end result you're looking for. if you want a clean logo, make it a vector. use illustrator or my personal choice flash and use the line tool or pen tool to get a crisp outline which you can then fill in.
if you're asking for general drawing advice, everyones just gonna say learn anatomy. because thats pretty much the first step in drawing. learn to draw people. get some anatomy books and stuff. and practise non stop. thats what you'll get told to do.
thank you rusty
please, have a heart. i insist.

i can't really see the colouring and shading because the lines are so thick and opaque
as a rule of thumb, line weight should vary greatly in illustration - you can use it to distinguish the depth and height of objects, the amount of separation between objects, and the position of an edge relative to the camera
for example, a heavy line would imply a hard edged object, a deep crevasse, or an edge that is facing away from the viewer
as for the shading, of what i can see, you need to use bigger brushes and high opacities rather than scratching in the value with millions of strokes of very transparent brushes

I don't think Al Pacino, I think of an old Soviet soldier who became a teacher here after the cold war, who when I was little told me about Gulaug when I was like 6 years old, and then I had nightmares about it and it looks like a face from the nightmares.
Really, I hadn't thought about it for years until I saw that picture.

Looks great. All i'd add is more contrast, even exaggerate the darks and lights if you have to. If you're trying to get better at drawing eyes make sure you also draw them from other angles.

generally it's not a good idea to shade with the tip of your pencil, unless you're hatching. Try sharpening up your pencil and using the flat edges. This way you can either produce nice flat colour or tonal shading without visible pressure marks (your sonic is riddled with those.)
Plus obligatory:
And for some general advice for people who want to draw cartoons or manga or anything that requires continuous stylised figurative drawing, learn realism and proper human proportions first. The more knowledge and experience you have under your belt, the better you'll be able to simply your drawings into your own style.
The above is really the only crit amateur manga drawings deserve, merely because by starting off your learning curve with stylised drawing will CRIPPLE your improvement rate. If you ever want to be good at this stuff, you'll need to know how to draw a person properly; otherwise you'll always be an amateur. This is the harsh truth.
