the best thing about getting home from work early on a friday isn't just getting out early. it's getting to see what happens when someone mentions detlef in this thread.
Some people here are far too obnoxious and should seriously consider their attitude. Being an asshole for no apparent reason isn't worthy of even being here, posting, having an account.
Yet, however, we're off topic and I suggest we drop it.
Apropeau getting back on track...
I'm curious about your ways of sketching, painting a character in specific.
For example, I first drew white outlines and then filled it with black in a masking layer
why I did this was for the sake of control. I could draw however wildly I wanted near the silhouette and wouldn't fuck up and proportions.

For some reason I ended up with a mix of nakedness and clothes cuts as if wearing a vest. This was the plan, however there was actually more to the outfit. All the while the black silhouette always stayed the same, as well as the sketch proportion lines. The eyes were left black, and I used another layer ontop just to not accidentally fuck anything up. The same goes for the hair.

Another layer created and I let a (still WIP) dress grow out for playing with ideas, at the same time as I outlined an armor of a leather nature.

But what I really want to know is the pros and cons of this method, and maybe what you yourself go with or prefer. Destructive editing or a Photoshop file full of several layers? So far I've found this method being the most comfortable one, the easiest one compared to for example having black outlines instead of white ones, or skipping the silhouette and having loose boundaries of which one could stray from (beneficial or not).
So what are your thoughts? What methods do you use?

If we're going to play that "who is to blame" game, several of us are part of it.
But what has been done is now done, so I don't think arguing much further about it is going to change anything for her situation or us.
you know what this thread would be really cool with? some sort of drawing thingy where people draw together
(it would also make people more friendly to each other)

We had a collab a while ago, it was great fun but people got bored of it while it was fairly unfinished.

That was the last update I have on my HD but I think it went a bit further than that.
except i dont see how thats at all accurate? she didnt leave because she 'got recognised' nor did she leave because she cant handle critisism. she left because often the criticism was delivered with a heapful of negativity much like you're displaying now. she still gets plenty of cc from plenty of other places (not da). i know i'm fanning the flames but you're just being ridiculous, she's not even here nor did she make some grand exit or anything, she just left because she wanted to and you're still being shitty about it.
I wanna back this up a bunch, I talked with her a bit when she was getting fed up with it, I'm not sure that many people recognized the fact that 90% of the commentary on her stuff was 'lol sameface', 'oh another deerboy why don't you do something original', 'you just like alexius because he bought you premium you sellout', then you guys would start getting more aggressive when she (somehow) took your empty criticism and passive insults as anything other than positive, and it all escalated a nonsense situation.
both me and det agreed that it was most likely that people were always more aggressive with her because she used to be really aggressive/no-bullshit herself. She's a big poster in the devArt thread and I'm sure all of the laughing/nitpicking that naturally happens in there didn't lend much to the image, but she's been way nicer outside of that thread for months, maybe longer.

I absolutely love that.
Can you describe your process?
I absolutely love that.

Hmmm... for this piece I started with a 95% gray and just started drawing lines. After getting a decent looking wolf shape, I started to add color. I had a large collection of swatches so I just picked whatever looked like a gross color. Light browns, purples, and nasty green colors. After I was done with the color, I think I made an overlay layer and added the blood. It's hard to describe my process because I don't really think about it. It just happens.
I tried to draw a rose.

the thorns look pretty flat and not 3d, you should try having more contrasting shading (unless you're going for the bland look) and generally making the object look more 3d
what are masking layers
it sounds extremely useful since i draw outside of my lines

no i didn't mean a collab like one of those communal drawing things where everyone draws at the same time

Maybe we could do something where there's a brief description, then we all draw something based on that description at the same time with a relaxed time limit and see what everyone comes up with?

at viper, i was thinking of a Creature-of-the-week thread. a description a week and people get to use their full imagination to draw it out, simple and inspiring!

That's something we should organize on, as some regular event on this section, with different subjects (creature, character, fashion design, backgrounds, etc...).
Should we create a General Thread or separate threads each week though?
if there's one thing I've learned from organizing things, it's to do it as a general thread with short deadlines, and not have it a long drawn-out thing. I'd say maybe make topics daily or just 'whenever someone comes up with a good idea'. Weekly seems like the thread would die down fast. I've seen a few tumblrs that do 30 minute challenges every night where they'll announce a subject and open their submit box for 10 or 15 minutes after the half hour's passed.
speaking of which I still haven't heard from doggy whether or not that book made it. I sent two that haven't come back, after one flat out returned to sender way back in the day
like
a year and a half ago
I'd be keen for a daily/spontaneous topic thread. We'd need a formatting system so that people could easily find the suggested topics in amongst all the discussion
Yeah we've had a lot of weekly contests and such. They all died out in less than a month.

Symmetricalish clouds look a bit too unnatural
Otherwise it's nice, very good experimental/adventurous method
what are masking layers

Draw something on a layer in Photoshop (usually a silhouette).
Make a new layer above it. Right click on the layer, choose "make clipping mask".
Draw in new layer and notice how nothing goes outside of the shape you drew in the silhouette.

I was just building upon what Dajitsu said.
I saw a video on drawing digitally, I decided to give it a shot.
Drew Skrillex if he was marine fowl for shits and giggles. Canadian geese are the best.

This is the first thing I've ever drawn digitally. Hooray.
I'm gonna try to shade/color it. Then I can join the ranks of Deviantart as another 15 year-old below average vector artist!
