Naw he's right, it's a nice drawing but the mouth is out of perspective

Also gridding with refs is a pretty bad crutch psredspy, best to not make a habit of it
I'm in a bit of a fix.
I'm trying to figure out what 'my process' is. I'm trying to experiment with a bunch of different ways of working digitally so that I can pick out the ways that work for me.
I found that some artists (including the illustrator Sam Burley) use a process where they paint a grey-scale image to get the values right (like I did a couple of pages back), then paint flat tones under this, using the greyscale as a multiply layer. This, combined with an overlay layer(s) and some adjustment layers added later on create the necessary tones, shadows and highlights.
The outcome is great. But to me it feels like cheating - you're not really paying attention to the tones going into the piece. It may look great but I feel that it takes much less knowledge of colour theory, which can't be a good thing.
What do you all think?

I was talking to a couple of lecturers about this earlier and they explained to me that oil painters used to (and still) do the same sort of thing - they'll do a monochrome value painting and then go over the top with their regular colours. The underpainting shows through and has some effect on the above layers.
Dumping some more life drawings. I fucked up her head completely in a couple of places, but I think I got her general figure down pat.

The painted ones were done with bamboo sticks, ear swabs and ripped sponges.

The russ must be proud.

I think it's quite the opposite.

ye it was a tad big to begin with. and when on the coat, which curves along with my back, it looks even bigger.
(but then again george is a big man baby)
Does anyone have really rough blending with their brush settings? I mean, it looks really splotchy.
This is with transfer set to pen pressure, but it's not smooth at all. I've played around with the tablet pen sensitivity settings, but this is the smoothest I can get it.

Could it be something to do with my Photoshop?

You could lower the hardness of the brush for blending. But the chalky brushes in the Natural Media set give a nicer result.

That does look really odd. Do you have anything other than opacity set on pen pressure
on your brush settings?
Does this happen with every brush you use?

Anything you post I save it right into my inspiration folder. Amazing, amazing.
I'm making a painting for a local shop competition. If I win in the top 10 it gets hung up. It's a creature competition, and my creature is in a tunnel. My question is: would it look better with a dark tunnel, or a glass tunnel in the daytime? (If it's glass, there will be a city in the background) I want the creature to remain contrasting, and I already have the background colors chosen. Please note that it is not completely shaded yet.
Also, is there a good way to make acrylic washes look smooth? this is my first time getting this detailed with acrylic. I usually use oils on a piece this small and complex, but it's due by the 4th.

I think it looks pretty awesome with the kind of sci fi tunnel line drawing effect that it has at the moment.

I didnt even realise it was canvas I thought it had some mad realistic effects put onto it, looks fucking sick. I agree with the sci-fi tunnel look, will be sweet.

Use lots of water, using a large dry brush to rub the wet paint into the piece after you wash it.
^ That is AMAZING
I painted for a couple more hours. This is taking too long :/

I get to do the background tomorrow. I decided on something that resembles this, but with halogen lights on the ceiling instead of the floor.

Trying to figure out a good path layout. Ignore the purple
The sense of scale is becoming conflicted because of the path size/perspective, the size of the windows on the building, and the size of that fence (?)
It all seems a bit weird, I would take the path out altogether if I were you
A, B or C?

B if any of them, but the scale of things really does mess it up. I mean those fence poles look massive and the widening of the road makes it kinda seem like the 'camera' is far above the ground, making it look like the tower is standing on a hill. If that's the case, then don't mind me.

It feels a bit off, the eyes are too high and the snowflakes on the front are kinda distracting, they just mush up the colours of the suit. The goggle lenses feel kinda small too.

THanks for pointing me on my mistakes! Well, I lowered the eyes a bit, and made the lenses bigger.
BUt it's a shame that I accidently painted these snowflakes on the layer with the suit, so it really takes time to fix them all, and I don't have it enough..so I just removed some of them.
I still damn hate how the piece looks like, but I always fail in my drawings, so that's not a big surprise.
That some crysis nano suit there? Looks pretty cool.
Yeah, this suit was one of my references, I really like how it looks.
Looked through your da gallery by the way. Your art is so amazing! You know, when I look at the stuff like yours, I just wanna give up on drawing and throw my pencils and tablet in the window :/
Lol why do I suck at drawing. (Well, other than having never practised).
Well I decided to do some drawing in photoshop, I got given a tablet a while ago and haven't ever really made use of it.
First time drawing in photoshop and first time trying to properly draw something in like, 5 years.
But anyway, I started messing around and tried to draw the guy on the case of fallout 3.

Based on this pic:

Im pretty bad at perspective and scale, but copying it, it wasn't too bad. I wouldn't call it a serious drawing, just learning photoshop drawing. Just wondering, if I wanted to paint it, should I try and have more solid, mechanical lines (like, use line tool and photoshop generated curves, or more sketchy), and how the shit do you make something look metallic.
Anyway, be gently, I really never draw anything.
