Here's an essay on the nasty part of Youtube. Please comment and let me know if it reads well.
YouTube is a website that is known globally, and has revolutionized the way we share information. It has become a tool for teaching, a source of entertainment, a place for politicians to reach out to a younger generation, a platform to advocate social justice, and has myriad other applications, productive and otherwise.
There is a darker side to YouTube, one either seldom seen or deliberately avoided by the casual user. War is raged in small, scattered skirmishes, and the comment section of any video that expresses a political viewpoint on a global issue is a battleground. To describe the exchanges that occur in these forums as ‘debate’ would be to do the word a terrible injustice.
From the ‘patriots’ frothing at the mouth with ultranationalistic fervor to the deluded fundamentalists who prophesize divine wrath against nations, visible minorities or political demographics, the mutual hatred and misanthropy shared by the refuse of our species is laid bare. Many of the commenters in these videos come from Western countries, particularly the United States and central Europe. Some videos and comments are so incendiary that many parties are pressuring Google to enforce social standards on the website. Google, being a corporation accountable to its shareholders, must inevitably cave in.
The hate-fuelled, abusive commentary often found on YouTube does have value, however. To an attentive observer, it raises a few important questions. The initial reaction of many people to the aforementioned would be surprise – general disbelief that people living in the First World, in countries that have moved forward to embrace an enlightened stance on civil liberties, would hold such views. If they do exist, they keep their sentiments to themselves in their face-to-face social interactions. Why, then, would they refrain from censoring themselves on YouTube?
The answer to the above question lies in the structure of YouTube itself. It is not designed to be a forum for discussion, and it is not a social network. Users are names without faces, and groupings of users with common interests exist only in their mutual subscriptions to the channels of popular video makers. Accountability is absent, and the security of personal information is practically assured. These commenters, then, are expressing themselves truthfully, as they never would offline.
The inevitable conclusion is a sobering one. It may be many generations yet before humanity is truly able to put bigotry behind it. There are many more people than can be guessed in the West who still cling to regressive social ideals. Some may be in positions of power. These understand their fellows too well. They keep their thoughts a secret in the interest of self-preservation. Society would only be too happy to find an evil to ostracize – clear enemies are in short supply these days, and people crave nothing so much as a target for their accumulated aggression.

Saying that it's known globally and is a household name feels too redundant. Pick one or the other.
"...and more" just feels off.

Fixed!
Made this on the laser cutter for my friend's birthday. I'm addicted to kerf bending and laser cutting now.
I also had a little request if someone could help. My boss just had two twin girls and we're making him a door plaque to hang on the girl's door.
I need some nice simple, yet elegant, floral design to go around the heart. It has to be solid black and transparent/white background, saved as a png.
Here are a few ideas I have, the image resolution of the designs are crap and too busy.
Dude I freaking LOVE making stuff like that on the laser cutter at my hackerspace here in Tempe. I sometimes have issues with our software though in regards to making sure the images are scalar because it's from China and half of it is untranslated :v:

If you're going to buy your first tablet, a Wacom Bamboo Pen is a real good choice (around 50-60€).
Did a really quick thing for the school paper.. it's like my first time drawing something without any reference tbh, i kind of like doing this kind of stuff. I hate drawing hands

I think the line work could use a little work, also the shadow is really messy
The hands and feet are too small, also the airbrushed shadow on the one figure in contrast to the hard shadow on the other looks awful
The style is sort of nice in an unpleasant way though!

I seriously want to become better at drawing so I started doing quick sketches drawings.
Did this in about 20 minutes. It's fun.æ
Yeah i only had like a day to finish it, I already submitted it though and it got front paged on the school paper. I gotta do more of these figure drawings and try to develop a style or something, I've never really done something like this before. I find it really hard to work on something without reference, like it's just hard to picture how certain shapes should look.

Don't do that. Show it.

Decided to spend the afternoon mocking up a 'prototype' of the plywood toy shotgun. I'm going to make a little zombie kit for nephews, machette, pistol and one of these shotguns, painted obviously.
Also because it is simply cool to know, these plywood wooden guns hold up amazingly, much more so than conventional toys.

Those are upwards of 6 years old, please excuse the workmanship, but they have been in 'battle' for half a decade. Two of those I actually just pulled inside from the rain to take the picture. My nephews love these things. At their house they have some high quality ones as well, including a 1/1 scale AR2, M4a1, FAMAS and a ton of other ones.
Roughly Painted,

use textured brushes, it feels flat and undetailed
use textured brushes, it feels flat and undetailed
Thanks! I'm actually thinking of switching part of my workflow back to Photoshop (at least for the moment). Photoshop's texture-brush system seems to be 99999 times better than Sai's in most ways.

Why don't any of the numbers start with one?
The giant drape needs stronger values, it's ruining the depth of the building.

If you're planning on putting a band name or some sort of text over it, then I feel like these as backgrounds may be too distracting.
Reposting because bottom of the page is the worst place to hang out

I agree with the guy who said that the large banner looked very flat compared to everything else
i guess i can crosspost this here.

some demoscene-inspired stuff i did to exercise syncing realtime (the video is a 96fps framedump, though) opengl-generated visuals to music.

I think one of your main problems is you're not creating dynamic enough lighting to really define and show the shapes of the individual objects in the scenery and the scenery as a whole ends up looking bland and uninteresting (stop saving images as low quality jpgs too btw). Like here's just a few edits
