I made some kind of running robot speed paint. Kept painting for 20 minutes plus minus five minutes. I imagine that it's running, and then suddenly turns a corner or something.
Traced myself a profile picture. The black doesn't look like shadows at all like it's supposed to and instead it just looks like you're wearing some cheesy zebra stripe jacket.

Alright, I'll continue further on it.

Finished, framed (The frame is 3cm higher than the canvas to add depth). 12"x9", acrylic, canvas. Selling for $90, I make 60% of the profits if sold, I don't want to be an artist anymore ect. P.s. Notice the painting to the left is $250. Life of a starving artist. Too bad I love painting more than life itself. It's framed, but just a shiny gold frame. [thumb]http://th08.deviantart.net/fs70/PRE/i/2011/321/c/5/extinction_by_timehive-d4ggpe5.jpg[/thumb]

I spray painted my computer case. I shouldn't have rushed it, it could have been better. Please don't mind my crappy HP.
Here's a good collection of the Famous Artist Course books for you guys. http://www.mediafire.com/?i44dwzkf9j9n8#b2l1db25ml6n6 Most of them work right now except for Book numbers: 1 8 11 Either through temporary unavailability or it just simply refusing the download for me. if you need to know what each book is, the Famous Artist Course Intro pdf will tell you.
Mirror link of the same books, just in case: http://www.mediafire.com/?o468p0xg262zk
does anyone know how to have dynamic symmetry in illustrator? I know you can use the reflect thingy to do it after you're finished but I want to see it whilst drawing [editline]6th May 2012[/editline]
I spray painted my computer case. And speaking of modding cases, a new and simple-colored one doesn't cost much.
Anatomy is probably horrid, but the whole point of this was to test out the features of Paint Tool Sai. Really digging it so far, but it feels a bit like cheating.

There are indeed anatomy issues, but if you work on it and color it you could probably create something neat looking cartoony. And if you at least learned something, you've won. Speaking of color, I continued the speed paint from yesterday so now it adds up to an hour and 15 minutes (aproximately) of total work. Calling it quits. Upped the res to 7000*4375 with 300 pixels/inch. It's so much easier working in a high res compared to what I used to - I'm still trying out different techniques since I'm still fairly new to digital painting and all, and that one's a keeper I tell ya.
$45 Intuos competitor anyone? http://frenden.com/the-little-monoprice-graphics-tablet-that-could/
Could anyone find out for me if the monoprice tablets have the feature where every point on the tablet is a point on the screen, like the Intuos tablets have? I know the Bamboo tablets don't have that feature and they're horrible cause of that.
Dont feel stupid for investing in a Wacom. The I4 comes with things like 2048 levels of pressure sensitivity, while the Monoprice one is around 1024.. The pen is battery powered which is a huge flaw for professional standard tablets. Not to mention the monoprice doesn't even support pen tilt, which is pretty awesome when used with photoshop painting. Wacoms are usually more expensive than other brands for good reason.
I actually only feel bad for investing in a Wacom cause the price dropped by 100$ a few weeks after I bought it when the Intuos 5 came out :v:

Update on my Choose Your Own Adventure: One of my friends has signed on to help with plot, branching stories, and a bit of coding. I've also figured out how to make classes using a system where I have a numerical value for each class, whereas Warrior=30, Archer=60, and Magician=90. This allows me to use if-then statements referencing the class through a number, and I can also use a line of code to show a meaningless title which identifies which class the player is (e.g., on the stat screen it says "Warrior," "Archer," or "Magician," but that title itself doesn't affect gameplay and doesn't play into the coding process at all). I've arranged the Classes in 30's to allow for subclasses if at all possible, and also to allow for similar options for certain classes. For instance, I can use a single scenario in which the player takes out an enemy from afar by using the code *if battle >= 60
You take the enemy out from afar, and the other enemies aren't aware of your position. "battle" represents the class (I couldn't call it "class" because I am already using the "class" variable to represent the class on the stats screen). That code allows for the same scenario to be used for the Archer (60) and the Magician (90). I can also use *if battle <=60 to allow for archer and warrior scenarios, such as stabbing (like with a knife, or an arrow). In the beginning, the character is able to shape his stats (see previous page for stat details) by sharing a story about fighting goblins with a patron of a pub. For instance, I present the choice to either jump out and surprise the goblins or to formulate a plan, which changes the Impulsive/Planning stat, and I present the choice "the goblins are surprised by your [pure brutality/extreme accuracy] to affect the Brutality/Finesse stat. This scenario allows for questions to edit each of the stats, and also provides a bit of backstory on the character that you have chosen. At the end of the story, you tell the pub patron your name, at which point you can choose your character name and gender.
Gave pixel art another swing again. Its just as fun as i remember!
I recommend you move away from outlines, they make everything look very flat. If you have the original sized image at full quality I could show you how to improve it.

Started a new image. While casting around for ideas I found this photo in one of my albums: I sketched it out as a thumbnail and then resketched it, trying to figure out how to give it a sci fi or fantasy spin. I ended up going back to an idea I worked on a bit earlier - trees with wires and stuff attached; harvesting power from trees. Did a thumbnail colour sketch (took a while to get them looking half decent) using another photo from my album as a reference for the colours. Did a few more sketches, developed it some more. Hopefully will get into a painting session today to do some big work on it. I don't know how I expect you guys to understand those plans
Please do!
Ok so first thing i'll put this tutorial here, it's the best ever http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=11299 Now, first thing you wanna learn is how to chose colors properly. Do not rely on only brightness changes to get shadows and highlights, learn to use the hue and saturation. The hue tends to usually be more red for shadows and the saturation higher and the for highlights the hue is more yellow and the saturation lower. This is obviously not a constant rule, the main point being though that the hue and saturation should be changing.(example of no hue change) (example of hue change) For choosing the actual colors for the pallet, start with one dark shadow and move your way from that to the highlights and shadows of the different objects in your piece, try to keep from making random pallets, it needs to all be linked together. (example) (example) Another thing to remember for colors is you usually want to keep your pallet overly simplified, don't go crazy with multiple colors if you can reuse some of the other ones. (examples 16 color palette) For outlines, you need to learn how to use sel-out if you really want to use them, this basically means that areas of higher brightness will have brighter highlights and darker places darker highlights, as opposed to one color for everything. (example) And here's the quick edit. vs original
Coloured it and had an attempt at shading. I really gotta read some books on shading and things.
And here's the quick edit. vs original
That's awesome.
Some practice work.
Loving the colours.
