its shit but it relieved a few hours of boredom. [editline]18th June 2012[/editline] i forgot about multiple pages
Going to give the art work a go again after a long break, still feel like there is. Lot to learn but no guidelines. Also what program do you guys suggest to use for drawing on Linux? Don't tell me GIMP. I think it is very confusing to use, or maybe I just need to learn it?
i hear Corel painter is better for sketching and Photoshop better for painting, ive never used corel though.
Realistically if you're providing an image to a client (or print admin), you should be making sure it's at the correct size and DPI. With some printers they require that the image file is set to the correct physical dimensions.
the only times it's been an issue with me is if I'm providing images for a website, or more notably the times I had this one teacher (for multiple classes in college) who didn't give you a size requirement for your images, just said that they had to be 300dpi. Literally no dimensions given, and he wouldn't answer if you asked/argued/demanded he give that much info. I'm honestly not sure if he ever opened the 3D programs he was teaching, rendering is a matter of dimensions only.

Teacher gave us Blender (for which I'm eternally grateful) but didn't give us any lessons on how to use it. This was back when Blender has jack all official documentation, so we had to use this 'Noob to Pro' wikia page with tutorials that didn't always make sense. Some teachers are just not prepared for what they're supposed to teach
[t]http://i.imgur.com/TJaQ4.jpg[/t] Was at the bus station today, since I would have to wait 45min for the bus, I drew what was around. Then I went home and added water. only now did I realize it looks a bit distorted
Came up with this during a week long Unreal Engine course.. Only problem is my computer at home can't handle it so I guess I won't be getting into UDK mapping anytime soon.. (Unless I decide to bite the bullet and upgrade my graphics card ha) Was fun while it lasted nonetheless
You really need to work on defining your shapes. Lay down some solid 90-100 percent opacity brushes when you start, and work off of those.
Thanks for the input. I outlined beforehand, but thought it would better transparent. :I [editline]18th June 2012[/editline]
Nausea
What do you mean?
It's great but lose the awful sig
What's with this thread that everyone hates signatures so much? Did a badly-scribbled sign kill your cat or something?
What's with this thread that everyone hates signatures so much? Did a badly-scribbled sign kill your cat or something?
Apparently it's pretentious? "Who do you think you are, Picasso?" I say screw it. If you feel like putting a signature on your work, go for it. I tend to throw a little one in there somewhere
Nothing wrong with signatures as long as you stuff them away and try to make them pleasant looking and shy. As long as they don't steal any attention from your work then it's good.
Nothing wrong with a little signature. Personally I don't put 'em there, that way people can re-use my work for their thing with ease. Also I don't feel the need for one. But I have no issue with people signing their work.
What's with this thread that everyone hates signatures so much? Did a badly-scribbled sign kill your cat or something?
From the moment there is no huge watermark in the middle of the pic, I'm fine with it.
Guys, how long did it take for most of you (if not all) to get that good at drawing and/or painting?
Guys, how long did it take for most of you (if not all) to get that good at drawing and/or painting?
I started junior year second semester. I've always had a good imagination though. 2 years of work might get you to here http://timehive.deviantart.com/gallery/ Any work after that can only improve exponentially... I hope
Guys, how long did it take for most of you (if not all) to get that good at drawing and/or painting?
Now I'm not good yet but I'd call myself decent... hopefully. I don't measure my progress in time, but rather in how much work I've made. Made about 10-12 drawings since I started drawing properly, improved after each one. Posted all of them in this thread. It all comes down to the person. Their method for improving, and the speed at which they pick it up. And how often they do it. You could probably become an amazing artist in two weeks with some proper dedication and analytical skills, but that all boils down to the person.
the more you learn, the more you realise how much you have yet to learn [editline]19th June 2012[/editline] being "good at drawing" is relative
Guys, how long did it take for most of you (if not all) to get that good at drawing and/or painting?
Im not good but found i progressed so much more when I tried different subjects each day. Find out the bit your worst at and try improve that. So if you like characters try buildings or machines. I am a bit pissed at myself for taking a long break from drawing when i was doing my engineering course i defiantly got less confident with my lines. If i remember correctly the guy who does the FDZ school of design videos said it took him 5 years of really hard work. This is his gallery [t]http://www.fengzhudesign.com/images/gallery_image_518.jpg[/t] http://www.fengzhudesign.com/
Guys, how long did it take for most of you (if not all) to get that good at drawing and/or painting?
i don't draw or paint. But its the same for everything. If you want to be good at something you got to practice it daily. But yes, depending on you natural skill it will take a year or 2, longer to become pro.
Guys, how long did it take for most of you (if not all) to get that good at drawing and/or painting?
you can check out my progress, dating from early 2011 to today, in my sketchbook at concept art http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=209362 if it's to any interest.
oh right, forgot about that. I'll play around with that Also, here's something I got while playing with a part of the design
Fooling around [t]http://i.imgur.com/3bYgr.jpg[/t]
