Well it was certainly that as well but his "guy who's never been to an art class" remark was pretty difficult to take without offence if you know what I mean
cant figure out if it's bragging or self-deprecation
It is really common for artists to label all what they do crap and they hardly ever are proud of their piece since they are expecting more from them self. I think it is normal so I see no reason to get offended by it. It is really bothersome since I personally don't think myself as a good artist, but when my friends see my drawings they just keep going on and on even though I just think it is a crappy sketch. It is really hard to do anything in the situation since if I just start going on "Nah, thats crap ignore it" they get annoyed from my attitude, and other hand I can't really agree with them on it being great so I just silently nod and say thanks. This is probably the only social situation I honestly try to avoid and it gets really awkward for me. Even on the other side as when I see my friends drawing and it is really awesome and she just keeps telling how shit it is. If I post a traditional sketch dump on face practice will you people be able to give me some criticizing and telling on what I need to improve? I find it extremely hard to draw just a simple face. Sometimes I get one part right, but I really cant tell what I am doing wrong. Gonna post pictures later since I'm about to go out so I don't have time to scan.
sure, post em

The good stuff 'just exists' compared to the very real time and effort you put into something that you don't consider to be of the same calibur. Your imagination may advance faster than your ability too, which just makes your own work not live up to the expectations you set when you started it, even if it's leagues better than what you were doing even a short time ago. It's just a hump you have to get over [editline]e[/editline] on the other side though, some people are just attention whores and call their work bad just to fish for praise, you get people who do that with a lot of stuff, and they just don't realize that for how little it actually boosts their shallow ego, it makes people who might not be as talented as them feel that they couldn't possibly do as good as that, but even that artist thinks it sucks. It instills that low self esteem in people who'd otherwise look up to them, and that's a shitty thing to do
lol I imagine it's like a girl posting a pic of herself on fb going "im sooooo ugly ;(((" and then her friends go "no way bab ur gorgeous<3<3<33<3" "omg I wish I was as prety as u ;))<3"

Helps to really place yourself on a track that can lead up to greater stuff, especially when the artist talks about or share their older work to show how they've improved, that it took time and effort to get to where they are and that it's a very realistic goal to reach their level with your own hard work and dedication

"OMG, no fucking way my life sucks.." "what happened?" "I don't want to talk about it.."
not really related here but ok
unrelated to topic, but what are some good sai brush settings for general usage?
It is a bit annoying when people present all their good work as crap. It's like when you see a nice piece and you say "oh thats really good" and they reply "no it's not". Makes you want to say "fine then it's not good" just be modest, be aware of the level you're at, don't fish for compliments and accept them when people give them to you.
Thanks everybody for the colour/tone criticism; it's definitely something I want to get right. I think I'm just gonna do a whole bunch of direct photostudies. Today though, I'm learning actionscript. Aaaaaaahhhhh
Suggestions before I ink this bitch, compositionally or otherwise?
Ensure that Rusty can't find a phallus anywhere in it or he'll post about it and ruin the piece forever
theres always dicks everywhere [editline]2nd July 2012[/editline] all i see are bulgy dicks whether or not that says more about me or your artwork is up to you!!
Ensure that Rusty can't find a phallus anywhere in it or he'll post about it and ruin the piece forever
I can see about 3 if I look hard enough. Also a really obvious arse crack. [editline]2nd July 2012[/editline] Someone should try and incorporate as many dicks in their art as possible and see if Rusty can spot them all.
Shouldn't this thread be renamed when we make the next one? It's a bit wrong, and probably demotivating to many, that it's purpose is to post creative work that you want to show but don't think is good enough to make a thread for, and then people post highly polished or highly skilled work here, just because this is where they feel comfortable posting it. "Creative Work Dump", or whatever.
Collective Sketchbook?
Collective Sketchbook?
That limits it to drawings. This is a thread for creative works of all kinds.
v2: Elusive Graphic Cocks Edition [editline]2nd July 2012[/editline]
That limits it to drawings. This is a thread for creative works of all kinds.
As far as I've seen, whenever anybody posts videos/audio here they get told to go to the correct forum
The 'Creative Practice Thread' or something along those lines? This seems to be the place where people practice their skills before posting in their own threads.
As far as I've seen, whenever anybody posts videos/audio here they get told to go to the correct forum
Music, sure, video? Never heard of. People post videos in this section all the time. (there isn't a video section on FP specifically for own made videos. Just a section to post videos)
there are very few artworks that even deserves it's own thread, I think the title works. [editline]2nd July 2012[/editline] even if it's really good artwork, a whole thread is unnecessary to show off one piece.
Even if it's really good artwork, a whole thread is unnecessary to show off one piece.
That's a way of thinking that only started once we got this thread up and running. And again, the title is demoralizing to every newcomer and people that don't post artwork very often. If I got a penny for every time someone posted here saying they were jealous, felt bad or whatever from seeing the stuff some of you guys post in a thread like this, then I would be richer than Bill Gates.
its just a title
its just a title
No, it's also a rule.

More communal. To be honest I don't really look at many (if any) of the other CC threads unless something particularly interesting catches my eye

I'm just saying the title should be changed because the purpose of the thread is completely different now than what it was when the title was made. Like there was just a discussion about, people labling their good work as shit can be arrogant and make people that are even worse feel worse about themselves. By posting your good work in this thread you're labeling it as "not that good", and when it's a really well made piece then that can be demoralizing to many, which we have experienced many times already.
it's a bit of a cumbersome title let's face it. collective work dump sounds groovy to me.
