Hey everyone So I want to start seriously learning to draw. I know anatomy is pretty much to must learn thing when starting. I'm not totally new to drawing but I want to start seriously on the right foot. Can anyone recommend me some good books or a starting point for studying anatomy? Any other basics or things I should definitely look into?
if you want to learn about digital art may i recommend "Bold Visions: The Digital Painting Bible" by Gary Tonge, I worked with the guy at Codies and he's an utter legend. also there is CTRL-PAINT (google it) but that focuses more on transferring traditional to digital and advanced techniques.

The only problem is I think that the left side of his face maybe a little wider than the right.

Try to work on that.

It teaches you to get into the separate mindset of drawing and the very basic fundamentals. Knowledge that is good to start with when learning anatomy.
Your lines are kind of rough, looks like you're using MSPaint... That or you're using a mouse, if so, get a tablet.
I did use a mouse. I did that style in purpose though.
its my styyyyyle
I did use a mouse. I did that style in purpose though.
To be honest, you shouldn't mask it with 'my style' because really it just looks kind of lazy That's just me, though. If you like it, keep going :)
Your lines are kind of rough, looks like you're using MSPaint... That or you're using a mouse, if so, get a tablet.
Herp derp, just go buy a tablet. Great fucking advice, as if nothing good could ever be made with a mouse. I'm sure he means to draw like this: Same technique, different skills.

But if you insist, keep going with that mouse couch!
Using the mice just take an unnecessary amount of effort and time (that will always reach on terrible results). Instead, you could just spend 50-60$ on a good graphic tablet (Wacom Bamboo Pen) that would be more useful and pratical.

[t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655193/come_on_by_karamula-d2zk14s.png[/t][t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655193/friends_of_the_desert__by_karamula-d2zb3oc.png[/t] It's harder to master and a tablet is easier to use, sure, but "get a tablet" is invalid criticism and should only be a suggestion. Not everyone can afford a tablet, no matter how cheap it may be. So it's not that I necessarily disagree with you guys, but I disagree with how it has been said. Mouse is just as useable as any other tool to draw, it just requires more work to get used to so it's better to spend cash on getting a tablet, or just go back and draw with pen/pencil on paper. But just "don't use mouse" is just silly.
im sorry dgg but to suggest a mouse is just as effective as a tablet for drawing/painting is straight bullshit "harder to master" is an understatement, people use pens/pencils their whole lives, mice are not designed for that kinda thing
Always my ass. A proper craftsman never blames his tools.
Except a mice was never designed to be an artist's tool at the first place.
Made this for my site http://space-facts.com/ if anyone is interested
Except a mice was never designed to be an artist's tool at the first place.
Neither were my books when I used them as rulers. Nor are random obstacles people like to use to paint things with or create models with. Imagination, creativity, playfulness. They get along well with art.
im sorry dgg but to suggest a mouse is just as effective as a tablet for drawing/painting is straight bullshit "harder to master" is an understatement, people use pens/pencils their whole lives, mice are not designed for that kinda thing
I didn't know we were running a business here, is the amount of hours you spend making art important? I thought it was more important to just make art, not bugger about efficiency and x amount of art made in a day. There are more ways to make art than using a long stick with lead/registration point on it's tip. There are more ways to draw than creating lines. Make them contrast each other more, right now it's got this really dreadful slimey feel to it because it's contrasty enough to be apart from each other but not contrasty enough to stick out on their own. Makes it look very uninspired and boring.
It's still like saying you can paint with your dick, because other people have, it's just that it takes longer to master. It's harder to do than just using a tool that's intended to be used for that exact purpose. A tablet is the best possible purchase for anyone who wants to do graphic design or digital drawing because it achieves what you might get with a mouse with much more ease.
