Friend of mine wanted me to draw pikachu. Sorry, friend.
i want one
think i'm getting the hang of this
First panel has great composition that complements the panel shape and size. Second panel is annoyingly skewed, I don't think straightening it completley would be good, but I would suggest tilting it more to the left. Third panel is blue. Fourth panel, can't properly critique it's composition before you've shaded the foreground characters, but it seems a bit, uninteresting. No true focus point and the character is kind of just pushed to the side. But again, this could have a drastic change when they're shaded. Artwise I like the style, although I find it a bit too sketchy on the monster in the first panel, the kind of "details for details" sketchy rather than "details for style" sketchy. But it looks good though, absolutely.
Also the first game prototype is done! There are a couple of bugs but it's not the end of the world. The art for the environments was done in two hours, and I'm not happy with it. It's obviously a sketch but even the colours aren't right. I'll be redoing it heeeaps. Hopefully gonna keep the loose, concept-art style for the final game though; should be interesting. Animations are done in a real back-alley way (it basically switches out different sprites when you do an action rather than jumps to a different point on the timeline) which I don't think is the 'approved' way to do it, but it works! And it means I can easily keep track of my animations. I had to figure a bunch of stuff out myself due to not having time to learn the 'approved' ways, so I'll be posting on the AS forum to see what I could be doing better. Still don't understand all of the code that's in here, but I'm gonna go back and check it out soon. Here's the prototype. It will take a little while to load, so it won't appear right away. If might not run on your machine (some people are having issues); please let me know if you have any problems!
The scenery seems to slowly escape through the bottom of the screen.
hah Going to redo the color on monsterman in the first panel. I'm trying to get a workflow going. and the blue panel is going to be moved over to the right, and it's going to be monsterman dropping the coin. im hoping to churn these pages out weekly, at least
Scenery for a comic I'm working on. I'm new at drawing perspectives, I know the sofa should be bigger. But I like it overall.
it looks a bit weird. The pool table seems to be tilted a bit, and the sofa might be a bit too inclined? Or maybe it's just like that. If that's the case, I want one
As I am afraid to get stuck at the same level of "quality" i am in dire need of some criticism. Prepare yourselves for experiencing all the mistakes one can make whilst drawing. Here are four drawings PHOTOED with a low resolution cellphone camera(Horrible isn't it?), 3/4 I deemed somewhat worthy of being posted. Attempt at drawing Marilyn Monroe. I know I messed up the face. 50's frying pan commercial, sponsored by Laramie? Tried doing something "toon" like. Messed up the head proportion, but at least the anatomy isn't supposed to be correct. Here's just something awful; I like to call it "What if Jennifer Lawrence was a crack-whore portrayed by a terrible artist." Finally something I just started, Meaning it can be saved by your criticism. (Sorry for using my cellphone, in the future I'll try to get hold of a scanner or a better camera.)
I'm really struggling guys. What should I be looking for in the way of prints for my pug drawing? Giclee prints seem over the top because they cost like £7 for setting up and £6 for each print (and nowhere local does it), but I don't really know what else is acceptable for art prints. Anyone got any experience whatsoever?
do you know anything about screen printing? what sort of runs are you looking at doing?
do you know anything about screen printing? what sort of runs are you looking at doing?
Nope, I know basically nothing. Only really looking for a dozen prints at the moment. I may just resort to getting prints online. They're advertised as photo printers but I'm sure it would do the trick if it's matt/borderless, right?
ahh okay. screen printing could be worth looking at in the future if you want to start doing 40+ runs or something, plus people like screen prints.
They're advertised as photo printers but I'm sure it would do the trick if it's matt/borderless, right?
i don't quite understand what you mean by this? do you mean because they advertise as printing photos and not artworks? like you said, it should be fine if you're printing on matt paper anyway. just be careful though, because your work is detailed i'd maybe just order one or two prints from your chosen place before getting more, 'cause photos can still look nice and sharp with poorer printing, but i think it would be more obvious with your pieces. to be honest if this is something you're serious about i'd consider looking for a nice little A4 printer, and spending money on nice quality printing paper for it. you should be able to get a nice A4 for less than £100 (considering a nice A3 isn't much more than £200), just make sure you look at how much you'll be spending when you refill inks. epson are good, but they have some models which cost £30 a cartridge to replace, and i'm not quite sure you'd need that. [editline]8th August 2012[/editline] printing online might just about be okay for the first few to get a bit of money behind you, but in the long term you're pretty much definitely better off doing it yourself. [editline]8th August 2012[/editline] the other difference between full colour/cmyk printing and screenprinting is that when you print it normally you're printing the colour and detail of the kraft paper, whereas screenprinting would allow you to print directly onto the kraft paper, so it would look a lot better (but i know it's not really viable just now!)
Thanks Autumn, really useful advice! [editline]8th August 2012[/editline] Turns out my mum has an epson SX515W that she sometimes uses for work hidden away. So quality ink/paper would make a print I could sell? For some reason I assumed anything we'd have here would be incapable of producing prints worth a damn but I guess that was presumptuous!
It's a mock-up box art for Bioshock. I dunno, it's not that great but a lot of people seemed to like it.

How do I do something like this on illustrator? Using a gradient only makes the white appear in the middle, so I was wondering if there was a way to move it or another way
you have two options 1. i assume you're not used to using the actual gradient tool on the toolbox? this allows you to move the centre of the gradient and play around with positioning and where the gradients cut off. you should be able to get the results you're looking for just with the gradient tool, but if not then try suggestion 2 2. the mesh tool it's the icon to the left of the gradient tool in my screengrab. you'd be best to look up some tutorials because i'm afraid i don't feel great and haven't the energy to tell you too much about it. but it's pretty much what it says on the tin, you arrange a mesh over an object and then you can specify gradients around it. it's got plenty of potential to be very useful, so i'd recommend learning up on it http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/illustration/tips-for-working-with-the-gradient-mesh-tool-in-illustrator/ [editline]8th August 2012[/editline]
na, I almost never use the gradient tools. Only on the rare occasions that a gradient actually works on something :v: thanks
It reminds me more of an 80's noir detective novel rather than an actual 60's sci-fi style. The buildings you used don't really send the right message about the location.
Pencil and ink on parchment paper. ...Fuck. I was hoping for constructive criticism...
It's very good, but you've put a spoiler to the plot twist right on it which I imagine might ruin things for newcomers. I'd remove that and maybe the movement lines behind the plane, I'd say it has suitable movement indicated through the symbol itself I really like the idea of more stylised box covers like this, it's something publishers rarely experiment with. Maybe if they looked a little more contextually suitable like this I'd be more tempted to own a physical copy.

Some pastel stuff Wow, I didn't expect this many ratings. I'm fairly new to pastel. I was expecting some criticism.
a bit more detailing needed around the headlights and wheel hubs and it should be done.
Some specular highlights would give it more of shiny clean look.
I was reading the BEN creepypasta and this popped out. I don't remember drawing it, tho... Just inking around... nothing special. Still waiting for my new PC to start working on PS again.
More muscle detail work, and coloring with my one and only marker sadly. It was a gift from my bro, figured I'd put it to use. The words are meant to be illegible, though I may redo them in an older style, actually fancy style. [thumb]http://i48.tinypic.com/16gjw60.jpg[/thumb]
