What did you use for highlights?
A white watercolour pencil and a white gel pen.
Sorry, guys. I won't get this done before tomorrow. But I WILL contribute, that's for sure.

It's annoying how I can make straight lines and nice curves and stuff easily on paper or with paint and the like, but with this tablet it's pretty difficult. For now I'm trying to get used to it by drawing random dots and trying to make straight lines between them and trying to make relatively smooth circles. Does anyone here have any exercises they would recommend for getting used to a tablet?
I've been using paint tool sai and I know it has vector capabilities but I still think it's better for me to be able to draw steady lines with my tablet so I don't encounter trouble in the future.

This might contradict what other people say, but rather than practising straight lines I'd recommend just getting on with drawing and the pen skills will come naturally pretty quick.

Ok, so I moved to 1 ball only, I think simpler makes it better. Now I tried half toning it with a gradient, but I'm not sure about it
could work but isn't really convincing enough

I'm doing that too, but I'm practicing along side everything else. Funny how I haven't done much "art" but it seems more enjoyable when I'm doing it on my desk where I can switch between programs and multitask while I'm doing it, rather than having to focus just on the art itself.
Here's my jail base guy. I picked him because he looked like Billy Joe Armstrong.
I took a few artistic liberties, but rest assured they were only to give this portrait a more serious and realistic look. Hell, you might not even see them.

Did you copy that watermark straight from the mugshot, it's very striking
Referenced a photo of a greenish chimney for lighting values

I always wanted to do my own comic but then that involves way more than i'm ready to do lol(such as draw characters consistantly and landscapes haha)

finally getting around to working on something I started around the beginning of summer, feels good to get back into the swing of things even if I feel super rusty.

A cool panda I did to practice a bit of my vector drawing skills, as well as taking a sketch and putting it into Illustrator/Photoshop.

I know they don't look that much alike, but I still enjoyed doing it. I will be doing other mug shot portraits in the future, that's for sure. Also, the beard killed me, so I chose not to do it (I know it's stupid)

It's good! Mugshots are actually hella fun to do. I may do a couple more today. Really I want to be focusing on art I actually have a chance of selling because I'm poor, but I'm sure someweirdo out there must want to hang portraits of criminals in their house, right?

If the art were good, I would totally hang pictures of criminals in my apartment! But I live in Denmark, so shipping would be kind of a bitch.

Only £3.50 for shipping, I think! Not tooo bad. I'm still at a loss as to how much I should charge for them though. It's really hard to detach yourself so much from it that you can think objectively how much someone will buy it for.
Lost a good chunk of work due to a power cut earlier, and I wanted to keep it to one sitting so that is why it's not a painting and the sketch is all you're getting

For all it's worth I scanned them last night:

Charlton, the loveable scamp <3
[editline]11th August 2012[/editline]
Part of me thinks maybe I should work on some portraits of famous people that people actually give a shit about, but it feels a little bit like selling your soul when these mugshots are so much more interesting.
Here's the mugshot btw:

That was in March, as we can see he had escaped by May:
