Thanks for the tips, even though I didn't get any of that. I'm an idiot when it comes to things like this.
I gave up with the grey background and full colors. I'll just give it slight colors on top.
She means in quick mask
The eraser and the brush tools control your selected area, so for example you could quick-select your thing and then turn on the mask and "paint" over the bits that are sticking out that you don't want.
Arg I am so tired.
Got to have a prototype done by tomorrow. 3am and still got heaps to do. Gonna get coffee.
In the meantime, you might enjoy the latest build of the game
is it wearable?
Not yet. It's quite dirty inside.

it doesn't have to be the eraser, it's just black or white (eraser meaning white). and since you'll usually have different brush settings for your eraser and paintbrush it's better to just switch between black and white paint than paint and the eraser

Is that music from the game private? Because I quite like it and it would be cool if you could share it.
Also, I really like the idea. Reminds me of "Up" somehow.
UPD. Oh, I found the link in the credits. Nevermind.
It's more of a physical-puzzle sidescroller. When you see that area in-game, you don't see the entire thing; this is just an overview.

It has a similar feel as machinarium and other similar games. There is a whole lot of point and click games like those which have a similar approach with a different art style but always the same overall feel to it.

"Strangely human in shape, the Alpha Centauri Cyborg, as it was dubbed by the discoverers at the crash site in Roswell, is not in fact human in any way. Performed tests have shown a completely different chemical makeup, based on silicon instead of carbon. Nevertheless, the human nature of the skull cannot, and should not be discounted. Many theories have been put forth, attempting to explain this, the one most widely accepted making the point that alterations to the appearance have been made to facilitate an easier integration into Earths societies. Thus it stands to reason that the Alpha Centauri Cyborg was attempting to infiltrate the general populace to gather information on an intimate level. However, it never had the chance to do so, since it perished when it crashed its spacecraft in the New Mexico desert."
"Too bad it never got to do that", James chuckled, looking up from the holo-plate describing the monstrous skull. "First extra-terrestrial to arrive at Earth, and the first thing it does is crash. A real shame."

Thanks!
I'll post some more then.
This one is a bad attempt at writing an entirely not serious noire/alien short story
I was standing in the office of my shitty private investigator business, a bottle of scotch in one hand, almost empty, and a magnum in the other, fully loaded. This was the end of a long road for me. A road filled with death, destruction and depression. I had lost everything there was to lose, and even lost things that wasn’t mine to lose. Every single person I had ever cared about were either dead, or worse.
As the record exhaled soft jazz, I put the gun to my temple. One squeeze of my scarred index finger, and it would all be over. But something stopped me. Not my long gone will to live, but a strange light coming from my worn down dresser. A rare spark of curiosity lit up my brain. What could possibly be emanating from that piece of shit wooden container? I had neglected to pay my electricity bill for the last, what, six months, so it couldn’t be an astray lamp. I decided to check it out.
As I got up from my recliner, a gift from my now dead wife and thus the only thing of some value in this room, I felt the whiskey hit me harder than it should have done. Was I getting soft? No, it wasn’t the alcohol after all, it was the light, along with a faint humming, rising in volume as I got closer to the dresser. Now almost a banshees wail, it continued to get louder. I steadied my hand, suddenly afraid, something I’ve never been before, even in the face of certain death. Downing the rest of the scotch, I opened the drawer.
”Yo!”, something from inside the dresser shouted, in a loud, annoying voice, reminiscent of a mouse, or my ex-wife.
I dropped the bottle and raised the revolver with both hands, aiming at the source of the voice. The loud noise was gone, along with the light. The sudden darkness after the sharp light had made me almost blind, and so it wouldn’t be before after a few seconds that I would be able to see the thing that would be the catalyst of my new life.
Slowly, a figure appeared in the darkness of the dresser. Three inches tall, and green all over, it was what appeared to be of a humanoid character. What the hell was this thing, and what was it doing in my drawer?
”Sorry to startle you like this man, but I don’t have perfect control over the procedure. Hi, I’m Narglth’ip-Yucn-Tharhf, but you can call me Narg, earthling!”
My finger went off the trigger, and I lowered the gun. What in the world was this thing? Its english was perfect, but sounded strange, like no other accent this crooked old detective slash human scum had ever met, and I had been places most others hadn’t. How could it be? No combination of diseases in this world, otherwise extremely creative with sickness, could produce this creature. I had to stop drinking...
”Well are you gonna say anything, big man? I’m waiting!”, the creature, or Narg as it referred to itself, yelled.
”Uh”
For the first time in my life, I didn’t have a clever remark.

Latest version of the game; complete! It's a bit rushed and there is a bug where the umbrella closes itself when you release the 'UP' arrow (instead of staying up until you press UP again), but it's coming along well.
I really like the sounds and music, very soothing.
Thanks! It's a hack job at the moment, really; fading in the fan-sounds is just done by an invisible box around the fan and as soon as we touch it the noise fades in, and as soon as we stop touching it the noise fades out. There's a lot I still don't understand, even with the code already in the game!
But I'll get there.
I'll hopefully have the Credits page updated tonight so you can more easily find the original sources of all the audio

I told you guys 3 months ago that I would do this.
Not sure if I failed or succeeded, hard to judge. I'm definitely less shy with contrast, at least.
Quick question for you visual-art-type-people. I'm writing a fantasy/sci-fi novel at the moment and I've been thinking about getting an artist to sketch visuals for some of my characters, since they've all been in my head so long they're clogging up my brain that I NEED TO WRITE WITH and it'd be awesome to have pictures so I can really finalise how they look in my head.
Anyway, I was wondering if this was a normal request and if any of you guys had done something similar in the past, and what the best way to go about it would be. Would I expect to pay commission on something like this? They wouldn't need much polish or anything at this stage, but I don't want to waste anyone's time by being all like 'but she shouldn't look like that what are you doing' and asking them to do it again.
Also, if anyone fancies doing it for free for funsies then please drop me a PM so I can spend my money on booze instead kthx.

This is probably the fastest helmet I've ever done so far. Sort of rushing cause I'm going to college soon. This is the second day but it just needs a bit retouching (esp. the visor). Also you may not see any more progress of this helmet since I'm making this for a friend and I'm giving it to him to work on afterwards.

I dunno, in terms of masking I just use 'x' to switch between addition/subtraction.
Unless you're talking about flipping the pen and using the eraser end. I never got into that; found it much easier to just hit 'e' when I needed to erase

That is what I meant. How could you not get into it, erasing with the blunt end feels so much more authoritative and eraser-y
Obviously it doesn't really matter, but I feel it adds a tad more enjoyment to working digitally and making mistakes

I read plenty of books, sir, english isn't my primary language though. Sometimes I accidentally mix different grammatical systems together, it's not pretty, I know. That piece was supposed to be a description of an exhibition on a museum, so I tried to write in that sort of style.
