i'm curious as to why you'd do that in fireworks? i appreciate you were just doodling, but if you have interest in vector artwork you should be using illustrator
I've been using fireworks since 2009 when I had to use it to make some shitty primary school logos which got me an A+
Since then I've just felt comfortable doing it in fireworks, I have used illustrator but I ran back to fireworks soon after, same shit happened with photoshop
I may switch later but right now I produce some good stuff in FW (I don't just use it for vector drawings)
I would personally ditch fireworks altogether and start using PS and AI/Flash (i always have to add in flash because i love it so)

Can we see the good stuff? Because as for vector drawings... those aren't vector drawings. They are still raster. Cartoon/cutout style =/= vector. Can fireworks even do vector?

I just call them doodles quite frankly it's me being bored
and sure, I did these in the steam grid thread

This was my first attempt at drawing a pistol, it's pretty shit but it was my first shot so I think it's alright
all made in fireworks

These look fine. They're pretty minimal as far as editing goes, but they're well enough made for what they are. I still recommend photoshop for this kind of thing though.
But this...

For a first attempt... it still is not good, at all. Sorry.
I'm not even completely sure what the purpose of Fireworks is.
I used it to prototype an app interface once, but even that seemed kind of unnecessary.
Not the kind of thing I would expect to pay out the butt for.
tips for getting better, look at your pistol and think "does this look accurate to a real pistol?"
If not, you need to study further how a pistol looks, then try again.
meh I was bored, looked up a video on how to draw a pistol and went from there, if I was going to take it seriously I would of actually worked on the look

Okay the alarm signs for bad attitude are going off here
First of all if you looked up a video tutorial, you're taking it semi seriously.
Second of all if it's not a serious attempt why post it?
Thirdly, if you looked up a video tutorial how did you produce that result?
FOURTHLY even if it wasn't all that serious, why would you not 'work on the look', even non serious artworks should have effort put into them to look okay.
Adobe Fireworks (formerly Macromedia Fireworks) is a bitmap and vector graphics editor. It was originally developed using parts of Macromedia xRes, which Adobe acquired in 2005. Fireworks is made for web designers for rapidly creating website prototypes and application interfaces. Its features include slices and the ability to add hotspots. It is designed to integrate with other Adobe products such as Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Flash. It is available as either a standalone product or bundled with Adobe Creative Suite. Previous versions were bundled with Macromedia Studio.
To be honest I just wanted something that could do basic editing and could at least let me draw and use layers. At the time I had a shit laptop and photoshop was a pain in the ass to use and fireworks was so fast, nowadays I can run everything but I still don't like going to photoshop
.. one day guys
wow excuses
Seriously, move over to Photoshop (for raster) and Illustrator (or flash (for vectors)).
Fireworks is not at all an ideal application for doing either of those things.

1. my pistols look like sticks, not even kidding they were fucking terrible so I wanted to be better
2. It's been in my folder for a while, sitting dry and you wanted to see some content so I thought I'd push it out
3. I had 2 monitors at the time, so the first one had YouTube the other had fireworks, I just paused and took note
I don't know how to better explain myself then just saying I wanted to improve, I didn't take it seriously on the terms of using it in something like an actual doodle it was to help myself get better and you know practise makes perfect
my other attempt was a shotgun,

Now yes, why isn't everything completed? It was midnight, I was listening to foster the people, I thought I should draw something
I've never tried shading so I did, I'll admit I went a little heavy on it (especially the face)
The shotgun was another video I looked at, this was when I took attention to detail officially because this was something I wanted to work on, in fact I am working on it but I just don't have the time to fully complete it at this moment
It will be done

It's on my computer just sitting there, I'll make something in it and see how that goes.
[editline]23rd August 2012[/editline]
Can you transfer firework editable .png's to PS tho cause a lot of my work says EDITABLE
ye ok, stop with the excuses.
If you want to get better, you need to approach differently.
You aren't drawing a shotgun, you're drawing shapes that make up a shotgun, but right now you don't even know how to draw these simple shapes.
Like a cylinder, which a majority of the shotgun is made out of.
remember that when watching a tutorial it isn't important how you do it, but why.
I don't know what else you want me to say?
I like doing simple doodles, that's it.
I get bored, I like to draw.
That's as simple as I can put it
My drawing skills when I was say young were shit, this year I felt the need to change and actually learn how to improve, I doubt I'll be doing what others are doing, creating 3D art or those really cool drawings/paintings
we give critique in this thread, it's what we do. I don't want you to say anything, I want you to either take the critique, or don't. It's up to you. But don't come with excuses.
Sorry, this was my first post to this thread, I know how facepunch gives their comments
I'm happy to improve, and that's what I intend to do
every single post you make has some kind of excuse.
Even simple things have basic fundamental drawing skill behind them. If you actually want to improve at drawing you need to start going for realism. Studying anatomy and stuff. This stuff is the backbone of simple cartoon drawings. Right now the stuff you're doing is quite bad, no offense. Even for beginner standards. If you can't realise that then you won't be able to get better. When you draw something, you have to judge it and ask yourself it if looks like what it's supposed to look like. In your case, it should probably be a no. If it is, try again but make sure you use references and actually try to improve.
Like I said, if drawings what you wanna do, you have to study anatomy before you take on a cartoon style. Doing the opposite can make it a lot harder to actually learn to draw. (see: andrew dobson, lucky)

Then ditch the cartoon style and start attempting to draw realistically with anatomy study. You have to understand forms and stuff.
I understand where you're guys are getting at, when I get some time I'll post something decent when I do some research on proper drawings
sorry for the excuses but thanks for the feedback
I think most of someone's initial drawing study should be kept private and you should be self determining of whether it's good or not and what to improve on. Once you actually think you're making some headway is when you should start to be getting critique from others. At the moment I think you're a little far off getting critique. You just need to do a lot of study on your own.
Was that drawn on paper then digitally modified?
Yes.
I like to publicly showcase my W.I.P's just tends to be a thing with me
I know a person who does some extremely well drawings
this is some examples

I've never asked her for advice, I probably should, she also uses photoshop as well.
Most of us use Photoshop.
I feel like the only one using fireworks :suicide:
you are
alright, enough with my bullshit excuses I'm going to move to photoshop

It's like a legacy program, its functionality is 0 now but Adobe still put it out there as part of the suite because $$$
But there's no reason to use it

once you get used to it, you're gonna love it.
also, are you drawing on a tablet or just with your mouse?
