I was wondering if any of you can critique my WIP, at the moment I am still coloring it, but I want to figure out what I can change around before saying that it is complete. The piece is basically a dragon on a stone (will probably change to a watchtower of some sort), near a volcano. Also this is my first time drawing a dragon.. so I hope it looks alright.
Your rendering is very unique and honestly, very good. Especially the clouds and atmospheric aspect. However I would highly recommend getting your basic structure and solids down first, especially before colouring and adding effects. I'm also a little bit confused about the way the dragon is standing/hovering. This is the sort of thing you should block out at the beginning.
Fucked up perspective. Wasn't paying attention :v:

It looks like there's one or more filter-raped photographs composited in there? Maybe there isn't, it's ambiguous to the extent that I can't tell much of what anything is, the perspective or how far away the dragon is from anything else. The dragon and stilt things look pasted onto the background. And I don't get the weird transparent white membrane on the dragon and elsewhere, or why everything is so heavily sepia even though the sun seems to be out (although the rays are coming from contradictory directions so maybe that isn't the sun at all, who's to know) So it's sort of a mess, and not in the way that you would expect a WIP to be messy and underdeveloped, this is just bizarre
Alot of digital artist use it and use it so well that you don't realize. Its also fast results so useful for rapid concept art. Go to about 2:06 mins:
The PS2 devs aren't the best example of good artists, their game looks like it didn't have any defined art-style and it's really really blocky/messy in areas.
Considering I am a terrible artist, is it okay if I post works of fantasy and sci-fi here?
yes
Considering I am a terrible artist, is it okay if I post works of fantasy and sci-fi here?
if it's creative work, then it's fine

Does anyone have a good value tutorial? I've seen some of the traditional drawings one but I'm afraid they won't carry over too well to photoshop.

Is it a moon or a cave system? I like it though, it has a nice feel but I don't think the brown suits it.

I've had a drawing tablet for like 6 years but never really got into it, today I started and finished my first digital painting, it's not perfect even I can find a bunch of errors after looking at it for a few minutes but I'd like C&C to improve, preferably from people who have been doing it for years: [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/44918480/Portfolio/werewolf.png[/img_thumb]
does this look like 1)a random confusion of forms, pen lines and stuff or 2)a horn [t]http://localhostr.com/files/MPTElQP/confusionconfusionconfusion.png[/t] agreeing with this post makes you very, very dumb
you need to do photo studies dude, like, heaps of them. I can see how photostudies would help in painting semi-realistic locations, but when you're painting a flat, artificial moon mounted on the wall of a big old cave, I just can't see where I'm going to find a photo that'll give me enough visual information to help

It's incredibly messy and all the clarity of the scene gets completely lost in it. I couldn't tell if that was a cave or a sky, or if that was a moon or a hole, and I had no idea what the two grey pillars above the circle were. When you explain it I can kind of see it, but you shouldn't have to explain it.
[img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/kwCSX.png[/img_thumb] my first try with square brushes in paint tool sai i am so fucking stupid i had it set it to multiply and kept getting pissed with colors for the longest damn time ps i stubbed my toe
