I'm pretty good at drawing people, but I'm terrible at coloring and drawing scenery.
Can anyone give some pointers?

Perspective.
And vanishing points.
Photostudies always
Just get a photo from anywhere. Preferably one you took yourself because then you'd know what the weather, etc was like on the day, but the photo could be from google or whatever
Then try to copy it. If you're focussing on colour then be quick, don't dally on details but keep it fast and rough. That doesn't mean WORK quickly, just make sure you're getting blocks of colour in and not trying to paint individual fence posts and whatnot.
Don't over-refine it either when you're doing colour photostudies. Unfocus your eyes or squint, and if the painting looks similar to the photo, you're done. Even if it doesn't, move on. Do as many as you can for as long as it's comfortable.
I find it amazing the different ways colour can be applied to a digital painting. You can get the basic colour blocked out on top of the lines and elaborate on it like many artists do but I recently discovered someone named cgsbgs on youtube who uses a completely different method in some of his paintings:

Skip to about 2:38 for the start of the colouring process. I love the simple way he applies his colour and his highlighting is just great.
It also completely amazes me that some of these are done in about an hour. (Not sure about this one).
It's only colour overlaying..
so this was from last year

the silhouette's stance and proportions are way more interesting and dynamic

It's a pretty common and standard colouring method.
You make your drawing with the values you want in black and white so that you don't have to worry about the colour being the right value / being percieved as the right value. Then when you're done drawing you add colours on a new layer and set it to a blending mode like overlay or whatever works best and add in the colours you want.

Yeah I totally agree, it was hard to keep it so loose when trying to make it functional. (and deciding it was a robot :v:) I'll try not to loose the original energy next time.
i think the medics face loses the fun of the alliteration in the fuhrers face
mein medics mouth
i think the medics face loses the fun of the alliteration in the fuhrers face
Now im generally good at english but....the hell does alliteration mean ?
well for example, der fuhrers face has a ring to it because there are two words that start with f. it rolls off the tongue and it's fun to say. fuhrers face, say it out loud. basically that's what i mean. mein medic's mouth would work too.

Ahh , well only reason i made this is casue that song is stuck in my head , and plus im planning on makeing a SFM video out of it , and it will still be der Fuerher's Face but for the sake of the picture i thought derMedicsFace fit better for a title well , until i read your guys suggestions
Anyone have suggestions for started projects in pastel? My old highschool art teacher lent me a ton of high quality pastels cause I said I wanted to try to work in pastels some... Now I don't know what to do cause I need to come out with something good cause I know he will want to see it hngg.
I mostly just need a subject since I can't pick one. Something fairly simple to start and test these pastels.
Ew.

draw bigger
draw bigger
I know, I know. I've been trying that recently, but for this one I kind of just stuck with my comfort zone. I really do hope to get the hang of it soon, though.

I'm not saying jump out and fill up the whole page, but your drawings will improve so much if you draw big
there's so much more room for details, plus erasing is a ton easier
This thread always inspires me to draw. However, I've never taken an art class, and, although my skill in art is probably much higher than the average inexperienced person, my skill level is pathetically lower than the art that I admire in threads such as these.
The only reason your art isn't good enough is because you aren't drawing.
Art class, tutorials and all that shit can go to hell if you can't be bothered to draw in the first place. Art class is supposed to help you, but it won't help you if you aren't drawing. All the time.
hell, even i started scribbling in classes for shits and i can feel myself getting the hang of basics
Thats the only good thing i got out of school , it got me so boerd that i was CONSTANTLY scribbleing and doodleing something , hell i dont think ive drawn as much since i finished school
dammit I look at all this art and realize I kinda suck.
hands, at least. I'm pretty bad at drawing hands.
