What kind of skills are you talking about?
For perspective, proportions and other basic skills, Id say 5-10 min. depending on what youre drawing. If you want to improve colouring, shading etc, take a bit more time with it.
just straight observational skills. doing photostudies to get better at photostudies
We had to make a 2 perspective drawing for preproduction class this week, i've never drawn before these classes.
We could only use boxes and beams. It also had to be abstract, we couldn't use any recognizably shapes like letters and stuff and "cool'
So i made this:
He said it was one of the best drawings he saw on that assignment since he started teaching. To bad it has some small perspective errors because i didn't have a ruler that was long enough for A3 paper.
If your going to cross-hatch, you need to work on it more. You want the lines to move on whatever surface you are trying to portray, if you leave them flat your drawing will look flat.

The perspective is all over the place. Notice the angle you see at the bottom of the "barrel" of the gun, then notice how you can't see the bottom of the magazine. Unless the gun is twisting, it should be consistently showing the bottom or not showing it, but not both.
Also, this can easily be fixed, but it looks like there's no hair on the right side of his head, right behind the puffed out hair.

Because things similar have never been done before.
Nothing wrong with taking inspiration from others as long as you don't profit from the work or somebody else or proclaim it to be unique and one of a kind.

I'm simply pointing it out. So it happens often, does that mean we should just accept it? People should strive to establish their own style, not leech off of someone else's hard work.
Taking inspiration from something and straight up copying are different things.
It's quite bold of you to claim it as "leeching". One thing to completely copycat ones work, another to make something that mildly resembles it.
Am I leeching of Pendleton Ward for drawing a face similar to characters from adventure time?
