whither did you travel to?
I didn't actually go anywhere, my internet just went down for like a month. So it was the opposite of a holiday really, I was still at home but it was a bit worse than it usually would be :v:
that is nice, but this thread isn't a chat thread.
And fuck you as well
Not to be a dick, but Detlef is right, and I'd appreciate it if you don't continue to post off topic here. As an alternative, try the PM system, or the profile comments.
I was greeting everyone though! I thought that was pretty obvious (Apart from you obviously, you facist)
chromatic aberration is so bad i hate it!!!!!!!!111
If you know how to use chromatic ABErration it can look incredibly awesome. [t]http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2011/244/8/3/gibe_head_by_0800-d48lbki.jpg[/t] [editline]14th October 2012[/editline] and this [t]http://th02.deviantart.net/fs22/PRE/f/2009/245/0/a/The_beast_by_jamajurabaev.jpg[/t]
no both of those pieces would be better without it
If you know how to use chromatic ABErration it can look incredibly awesome. regardless, that second one is awesome
It brings the focus where the artists thinks its most important and doesn't make the image look as flat... It gives it depth and I think that make it look better. Especially on the 2nd one.
It brings the focus where the artists thinks its most important and doesn't make the image look as flat... It gives it depth and I think that make it look better. Especially on the 2nd one.
no it's the composition which places the focus. the aberration is distracting if anything. The sense of depth would be there regardless because it's a good drawing, it's not caused by the CA
It brings the focus where the artists thinks its most important and doesn't make the image look as flat... It gives it depth and I think that make it look better. Especially on the 2nd one.
could just do that by being better at painting lol
juniez, chromatic aberration doesn't have to be used on everything you draw, seriously
Alrighty I'll stop
I think the guy who drew the 2nd one is pretty good at painting already... It has a nice cinematic effect in this case. Obviously it shouldn't be used all the time
doesn't look cinematic, it looks passed through a shit camera filter and muddles the crispness of forms
The thing with Chromatic Abberation, lots of DOF/blur, texture overlays (especially grungy) and such is that they are tacky, added on techniques that removes focus from the details of the piece and makes it instantly better because it's there, not because of the art being good. Grunge overlays makes something look better right away because it gives a lot of definition and contrasts, although it doesn't actually add anything to the piece in many cases. It's the texture that is good and makes people like it, not the art piece itself. Chromatic Abberation gives that uncanny and untouchable feeling where something becomes slightly blurry and you just can't quite focus on the details, which makes your brain fill in what the details look like, thus instantly making it better. Some people also just get boners from anything that imitates camera techniques, even faults like Chromatic Abberation, for some reason people want their eyes to be like a lens with lens flares, bloom, abberation and shit making you unable to focus on anything and getting the feeling of constantly being snow blind. DOF kinda goes without saying and does the same as Chromatic Abberation. Gives focus on something and leaves the blurred areas to your imagination, meaning you can just make some scribbles, blur it, and suddenly it looks much more real and detailed despite not being detailed at all. We are also just extremely attracted to DOF, after all it's one of the first things you want to do when getting hands on a camera, snap images of random stuff with a high aperture setting, and bokeh is a very large handful of people's wet dreams. They are all techniques that have their place and time. But they are often tacked on things and used to avoid work and make something look better than it is. They are distractions and eye candy that is more often than not used to make you less critical of what you see.
Alright...everybody get off the soapboxes.
sorry you dont care for this discussion just for you we'll stop caring about improving peoples work
if only you guys would put the same effort into giving critique on stuff that matters, not a pet peeve
my first art in a while I think it looks pretty good as long as you're not aware of the reference image :v:
Face is way off.
ok. could you maybe elaborate? nose seems off to me but is there anything besides that
Face is way off.
This is shit constructive criticism and you and everyone else that does it should stop doing it. Elaborate, explain, draw over it if you must but saying "x is bad" or even "y is great" is terrible, give them feedback that counts, not some thinly veiled insult or compliment.
not everyone has the time for that. it's a forum. reading between the line(s) should imply "do more head/face studies" not saying rudeness is the way or anything like that but demanding everyone do paragraphs of critique is just silly
I'm not saying that but simply saying "the face is off" doesn't give anyone any indication of where it's wrong, it's just like saying "There's something wrong, but I'm not going to tell you" At least give some indication of what the issue at hand is rather than a vague hint at it.
Yeah it wasn't the most informative criticism but never mind. realised the eyes are waaay too big. like 150% bigger than the ref. I always have to do a couple of things wrong in planning; there's always sooo much to get right :(
slow ur rolls dudes and dudettes
i like chromatic abberation
