That's nice but I would've made the decomposition start a bit more unnoticeably! IMO the strip next to the stars could start more to the left or in the middle of it, I think it could make the whole decomposition appear more blended and loose the eye a bit like the left part does. I see a straight line that starts on the stars square and there's a ctrl+c/ctrl+v feel to it. Maybe you did not want to loose the flag so the American Dream's decomposition (correct me if I'm wrong) is obvious but right now it feels a tad too obvious.

I gotcha and I'll totally take that into consideration next time I go about doing another one of these photos. I've actually been doing this glitchy weirdness since Middle School and it started on accident.
Figure A:

I did this in 9th grade, I believe.
If you guys want to do your own, all you have to do is use the Wave filter on a select portion of the image, set it to square wave, and mess with the settings. Rinse and repeat. You'll get the hang of it pretty quick.
Here's something I started working on a month or so ago, abandoned, and then started up on again.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/ZbBCm.jpg[/t]
It's not finished. It'll be a little while until I start coloring it. Any advice?
Also, I'm aware of that incredibly awkward ring finger. I'll fix it.
On second thought, all of the fingers are a bit awkward, huh? I'm not used to drawing hands at all.
yeah learn anatomy lol
yeah learn anatomy lol
More specifically? I know I'm terrible, but I'd like to not be terrible.
yeah learn anatomy lol
the hand actually isn't really all that inaccurate it's just plainly rendered and posed

Zomb guy I've been working on. I've only recently gotten into digital painting, but I haven't had any time on my hands so I'm just going ahead and posting it now.
Still messy but I'm pretty happy with it only being my third real go at this.
Yeah, I'd say it's not really an anatomy problem so much as the ring finger and the pinkie seem like they're drawn in the wrong orientation. You got that arc where the fingers meet the palm down pretty good and the thumb is done pretty well aside from the thenar needing to be a bit rounder and coming out a bit more. Like this:
[img_thumb]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_I8t0EbwStUE/TF7q4P8NpfI/AAAAAAAAAhw/tNykB0ULzjc/s1600/thenar.GIF.gif[/img_thumb]
Looks like you erased it a bit when you were adding that building, that might have lead you astray. You're really really close though.
@Meller Yeller
The zombie's going pretty good, you should really make time to finish that. You really nailed the blank expression on his face.
The forehead shading is a bit flat, though, I think. It should be a bit rounder than you have it. Think of a sphere's lighting. It should have a brighter highlight towards the middle.
The arm's perspective seems a bit strange, but it's just an outline so I might be wrong.
I really like the colors you chose, hair looks awesome even for being just straight up lines, and the picture's framing on his face is perfect. Hope ya finish it!
doodle from tonight, more guild wars junk. found a screencap and felt like adding some personality. too late at night to continue, had just started roughing out the charr dude and he lacks every sort of contrast. fun practice though

From the sound of it you're being overly meticulous/invested in that one drawing
Picking things up a month later isn't a great idea really, you should work on a piece and if it gets tortured and you abandon it, leave it and do something else and don't look back. When you're learning to draw at first it'll stand to your rate of progress if you make sure to not be precious about your things. When you still need lots of experience with the fundamentals, quantity of drawings is probably more important than quality if worrying about it makes you inertiatic.
Fucking about in Art Rage again

I tried a simple vector trace of the main feature of my cities silouette, I had no experience with this so please give me all criticism that you have

I worked off this:

The quality is pretty bad, but I think it turned out okay.

Good composition and I also dig the colour scheme (I really like that shade of green).
Keep it up!

Portraits are so hard.. and sorry I know GOT has been done to death but i <3 it.
The values of the ref are so subtle, might exagerate a bit to get some form on the nose or something.

Have you tried rendering the hair with the same light direction of the figure? I feel like it'd look easier on the eyes, for me anyways.

Work in progress, because I draw when I get bored.
I've never messed about with my Wacom tablet for anything other than photo editing, so this is a little different for me.
It's a shame I'll probably never get around to finishing it...

does it really need that many layers? i dunno, i don't mess with digital so
create, work on, and then flatten your layers as you work and spend more time painting on a single layer than you do on individual layers.
i feel like that's the workflow that gets the nice advantages of layers while really keeping it looking like a consistent painted piece versus a bunch of layers sitting on top of each other.

I get what you're saying, but I'm always afraid to flatten in case I need to go back and fix a layer.

Also, I'm not sure how to get each brush stroke to "merge" with the last, like it would if you were actually painting.

Work on the one layer and just duplicate it at each milestone you reach. That's what feels most natural to me
(And hide the backup layers you make ofc)

This. I just group all the layers, then duplicate the group, hide one of the group layers and merge/flatten the other. Definitely helps keep the program speedy as well
With layers I think it might take a little while until you figure out how you like to work.
For me it varies; if I'm doing a speed paint or just something to relax and unwind, I'll do a single layer and go for a painterly look
If it's something that's for more serious work that might need large changes later on or if it's a composition that I feel I'll want to shift around later, I'll go for multiple layers, being really subjective about what layers I merge and what I don't
The best thing I can suggest is to just try different things, be casual and don't take it too seriously and let the use of layers develop on its own
[editline]17th October 2012[/editline]
Definitely helps keep the program speedy as well
Remember there are several options for memory management in preferences; tall and thin, big and flat, etc, that will help depending on what sort of layer management you go for
cool stuff
Love the environment and the Serious Sam monster! Those turned out pretty nice.
I don't care much for the girl's face, but that's mostly a personal opinion. The stylized nose is what does it.
Can't say for sure, but I think the boots might be a bit out of perspective too. Could be wrong. The lighting and form on the clothes is awesome though.
Good stuff, bro. Keep 'em coming.

I know it can be hard but try to push other materials/surface types into that room. The lighting and colour is great at the moment, but more variation and some more foreign tones would make it look more brilliant

Really good likeness I got to say. The face shading is a bit flat, having some light on one of the sides of the head would pop it a bit, but I haven't seen the reference so I can't really say much of how it should look based on that. If it is a study then I don't think one thing can be done to death hehe.
