Okay, since no one is giving you some constructive criticism, I'll give you some: It's not good.
it's great?
nah
So, I wish to improve on my drawing skill-set, however there are so many things to draw and I personally have no idea which way (presumably) helps my drawing the most. I'm a beginner, and you've probably heard it a lot but where do I start? I've been trying to get good at traditional drawing while drawing from life first. However, I barely see any improvement. I've been meaning to become better at this, and make a portfolio when I feel good enough to make one. I can't show much, other than my most recent, modest and unfinished sketch of a still-life, which took me a whopping 1.5 hours to draw: http://bbq.to/20121020_222515_fba9.jpg
Recently I've been learning how to draw and I want to do it the right way. Does anyone have a list of some good websites that I can use? Also any books you guys might recommend?

Learn to draw what you see and learn to draw fast. After this you probably want to go onto studies be it anatomical, landscape still life etc

Took me ages to notice it was a gif, that's awesome. I watched Army of Darkness for the first time last night, it's so badass :D So i did a quick sketch of Bruce Campbell, think his chin is too small or something though.
You should actually shade and not just do weak gradients.

Sketches should be quite loose and flowing generally. Don't carve your outlines into the page, and don't be meticulous and spend hours trying to get something right inch by inch. It's good that you're drawing from life, keep that up. I'd say a whole lot of us in here don't do that often enough.
I've come to a conclusion that I'm pretty weak at drawing anything particularly realistic. Well, for now I thought the sticks behind him are distarcting, so I had to erase an hour of work and it came out like Guess I really need more practice after all. Thanks for the value tips though, MakoSkyDub.

Right now it's very flat and undefined, the only thing that tells us how his shape is faced is the black outlines, not the shading. Sigh. Worked on this for a while, thought I'd share.
the knight kind of looks like a gargoyle because of the placement of his head or maybe his pose looks a little wonky but i really love how it looks
More stuff re: the game demo Got 3 days left to get the demo finished and I have hardly started painting, so it's gonna be pretty rushed. But when the refs lighting is not strong what are you suggesting you just make up a whole different lighting scenario? Do people do this? The tone, mood and overall ideas behind an image should direct the use of low/high contrast. The same way you'd use high saturation for a particular sort of image and low saturation for another Following the notion that you should always follow a specific guideline (in this case 'push your values to the extreme') isn't the best way to go about making art
A building Im drawing for a project I gotta hand out tomorrow. Im using watercolor and I still dont know how to color the windows. I tried blue, but that just looks childish. What other ways can I color the windows then? [t]http://i.imgur.com/LxjUy.jpg[/t] basically I chose this building because of all the leaves that hug the building, so I want to emphasize that in the drawing.
the blue windows look nice sometimes but don't make them one flat colour, windows have relections and also aren't perfectly flat

[t]http://i.imgur.com/zqVkZl.jpg[/t][t]https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3655193/Bruce%20Campbell.jpg[/t]
You can make up a whole different lightning scenario if you want, but no, not necessary at all. I think in this case, if you're going to pull it off at all you need to not have any black lines at all and rely purely on the shading, otherwise the black outlines collide with the high-key lightning. If you're going to use linework, then use it where there is a dire need for detail or it's really dark.
